7/27 going into the break, i'v done it professionally on and off but it's not something i'd reccomend. 2011 was just a painfall year and showed me how much variance is actually in this game.

yeah 2010 was fantastic for me, maybe it's something about years ending in even numbers...

Cool, I play cash and sngs but also work part time. Obviously cash and sngs are a bit more consistent and less varience than MTTs, but when you get a big MTT win it must be nice! Im also staked so cant ever lose really.

If you play any live tournies let me know as I sometimes go with a couple of other Palace fans more than welcome to come along.

Yeah I'v mainly been doing cash recently but had enough FPP's (they are kind of like loyalty points) to enter this for free so thought I might as well.

I'd be up for that definitely, i'll pm you my details when I get a moment.

Thanks for all the support guys, I'll do my best to put palace on the map!

I won that twice last year if your asking :)

To be honest the stanard in stars sngs has got alot higher recently, many of the games are full of regs playing decent (but exploitable) poker.

Just signed up on Merge, played one 5r and got 4th :(

I've only played on full tilt and now pokerstars, is the standard of play really lower on other sites? Because I have heard that the Tower gaming poker room, which only lets people from EU countries in has a lower standard of play.

Billyd
15-05-2012, 05:53 PM
Yeah the standard is lower away from stars but a lot less choice of game and volume

I had some Vietnamese pro sitting across from me. We spent the whole time pretty much bluffing each other. I had AK 3 times the first hour, but that was about it. Had JJ three times that I folded pre-flop twice and got hurt on once. That was the extent of my good hands. The guy to my left had played 10 events already at the WSOP, but never got his name. He said he has $250k stuck at Full Tilt.

I definitely need to practice more before I go next time. I did hit the England draw at the sportsbook yesterday so that takes some of the sting out.

Has anyone else seen this mental satellite tournament going on at the Rio in Vegas atm?

It's $25,300 buy-in and the winner gets entry into a $1,000,000 tournament tomorrow (All In for One Drop, http://allinforonedrop.com/en/), 2nd ONLY gets $1,000,000 as the cap has been reached on 'All In for One Drop' (48 players) and 3rd will pick up $250,000.

The $1M tournament tomorrow will be the biggest ever, with more than $40M in the prize pool, and $5M goes to the One Drop foundation.

I think we should have all clubbed together for the entry and bought a couple of players for Palace next season with the winnings. Oh well too late now...:afro:

EDIT: here is the link to the live reporting if anyone is interested http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/2012-world-series-of-poker/25-300-one-drop-mega-satellite/

So we are down to the October 9 now and its a pretty dull final table with no names on it and 8 Americans.

Surely the most brutal is the 2 ladies bubbling the final table especially as they were both knocked out by this guy. who survived this ruling earlier in the tornament (Baumann got knocked out 10th)

"Andras Koroknai Moves All In, Then Mucks, does not lose his tournament life

Gaelle Baumann opened for a min-raise to 60,000 from under the gun, and the action folded to Andras Koroknai, who moved all in for what looked like 2 million from the small blind. Gavin Smith folded from the big blind, and thinking that the action was completed, Koroknai mucked his hand.

When he realized his mistake, he pulled back one of his cards, but the other was irretrievable. A floorperson was called to the table, and the dealer explained what had happened. Tournament Director Dennis Jones was called over to make the ruling, and upon hearing the story, he stood silently for half a minute.

Smith, who was standing next to him, began laughing at the difficulty of the decision.

After a moment for thought, Jones informed the table that Koroknai would have to forfeit 60,000 chips to Baumann, but that he wouldn't be eliminated completely. "Really?" Smith blurted.

Baumann was also confused with the ruling, so Jones pulled out his iPhone and called Vice President of the World Series of Poker Jack Effel. After a two-minute conversation, Jones hung up, and announced to the table that the original ruling would stand.

"You're not losing your tournament life," Jones told Koroknai.

In Jones' explanation to the table, he cited the "integrity of the tournament" as the major factor in the decision.

According to Smith, Baumann showed two kings."

My latest in a long line of bad beats:

Going fairly deep in a live big Pokerstars tournament in Macau.

All in with my 88's against JJ's - (ok I accept by definition whatever happens to me can’t be a “bad beat”, but as the hand developed it felt that way – especially live where it’s dealt slower to build anticipation).

Flop - K-8-2 Rainbow – “yes, at last I’ve hit my trips” No straight or flush possibilities, just got to dodge a jack…..”.

Turn - “no Jack, no, Jack, no jack, no jack”……… King “Yes! hang in there……”

River – “no jack, no jack, no jack, No jack, no jack, no jack, no jack…………… A f******* KING.

Sick and more importantly out.

Bigtoe82
28-08-2012, 09:40 AM
LOL Variance, get used to it.

A real bad beat is when you have a 950bb stack on 100nl get it in with a 880bb stack with 87 against AA on:

654r....

Turn A

River 4.

O well, it happens. Just sick coz of stack sizes, would have had nearly 20 buy ins on 1 table :(.

Been a good couple of nights with $1.4k profit, and satellited into the 888SuperStack at the Mint Casino in Kensington at the end of next month for $13 and the buy-in is 165!

So all in all times are good for McH2O in the poker world.:afro:

Been a little topsy turvy with my results recently and have been guilty of playing games that are too high and getting unlucky within them. This shouldn't matter as i should be deploying a sound bankroll management program but i am being a little bit ill disciplined.

Whenever i have played within my means i have made around 300 a night on average, when i play ill disciplined i lose quite harsh amounts but sometimes come in with huge scores.

Need to tone down the craziness, stick to about a 300 buy ins rule and just get a huge amount of tournaments in a night. I must easily play over 100 tournaments a night, and am a decent winner, just need to stay disciplined and stop playing above my roll.

My mate plays 5/10- 10/20 ongame and loads of other sites, says main event winner is a consistent -1.34 bb/100 loser over 200k hands in cash games. So sick!!

Anyone play ongame 50nl/100nl on here?

Just played 3 MTTs (1 on Stars, 2 on 888) and finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, no win though.

However from the $31 spent on buy-ins I cashed for nearly $1.2k so a pretty handsome ROI! Slightly disappointed not to get a couple of wins from them though as the profit could have been doubled!

I can't work out why I don't win cash games online, played in casino last night, started 50/50 NLHE and ending up progressing to 1/1 NLHE/PLO (round of each) and made clear 330 profit, all good players last night, no fish, yet can't seem to win a hand playing cash online, don't think the standard is any better online, maybe it's a psychological thing.

Standard online is much higher than live. Live is awful, i crush live bt jus dont play enough and am a very, very small winner /probs breakeven at 50nl & 100nl online. Good ive got a sick rakeback deal :)

I would say a competent 25nl online player should beat 100nl live pretty comfortably.

This post sums you up totally. You clearly have just shown that you do understand at all what you are talking about. That is still running at 3bb/100 which is an extremely solid winrate and my bb/100 over my first 4k hands this month is 19.6bb/100.

Wow, haven't been on this thread in years!

Since I ended up getting a full time job, I've bought a lovely house, had a son (Wilfred!) and life is now starting to calm back down again giving me a chance to play poker again.

Started to play a bit on stars and seem to be making good profit so far. Only playing small stakes as I have other responsibilities but up nearly a K in pounds according to scope with average stake of a couple of quid.

How's everyone been these past few years? Usuals still here? Saul, Gav, Poolio, Uplander etc?

iamanuplander

I play full time now, and am playing $3rs-$20rs $10f-$109f online and playing on around 20 tables a time. Play a bi live too and got lucky in a 200f in December winning 9750 at the Aspers Casino.

Really enjoying the grind but blimey, you have to deal with some horrid swings and my bankroll management skills are now outrageously prude. Much unlike the gambly type of way I play tournaments nowadays!

What are you playing online now STOG? I am hammering out the 180 man turbos in particular on stars, quite profitable, with little variance. Quite possible t average $2 a game in them and then it is all about how many you can hammer out. They only last two hours so you got to be looking at about 100 if you want to make it worth your while.

Also big rep to the 12$ rush sngs on Full Tilt, only run at night, but they are v nice.

Glad to hear that your life is sounding pretty great at the moment!

Nice to hear life is treating you well Sam :)

I was playing poker up until the end of 2010 but I started to get sick of playing at home, online all the time. I got frustrated, concentration was poor and my profits dropped as a result. An interesting job opportunity was presented to me and I felt I was perfectly suited to it and wanted to get out of playing poker and working from home so I applied. I started work in mid-2010 as a Commodities Trader in London.

I concentrated on the job in the early months and didn't play much poker. However due to the nature of the job and style of trading taught by our boss I had a lot of freedom and if I was in trades that didn't require much monitoring and had done all my research then I could do what I wanted and the boss even said it was fine to play poker as he didn't want me to 'overtrade' out of boredom. I started playing poker whilst at work, just a small amount per day. I found that this suited me and I did better with some kind of routine and limited hours to play. It also felt different playing low stakes without pressure as I was getting paid from trading.

That particular job came to an end last year but since then I still trade and play poker quite a bit as well. Only thing I do now is try to play more tournaments, I used to do well in them but haven't done too great since restarting! I'm looking to play live more too as I've always found it more fun.

After playing for a few hours, it's good to see the bad beat machine is still working at PokerStars. Once upon a time, I tracked over 750 hands where either I or my opponent were all-in. I was ahead when all the money went in on 70% of those hands and only ended up winning 40%. I wish I could find that spreadsheet somewhere.

Oh I see, they were asking the dealer to rotate the 8's and 9's before putting them back in the shoe. So I guess you'll be able to see the 8's and 9's easier. It seems like the casino helped him "cheat". And why wouldn't you at least scramble the cards when you scoop them after a hand if you're the casino.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey casino is reimbursing players in a poker tournament that was suspended after counterfeit chips were discovered.

More than 2,100 entrants who finished outside the top 450 and played in the same room as the North Carolina man who is accused of introducing the fake chips will get $560, including a refund of their $60 entry fees from the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

But the best part of the story:
Authorities said Lusardi, suspecting his fake chips had been noticed, flushed them down the toilet in his hotel room at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City, where he had been staying. But the chips clogged the pipes, and guests on the floor below complained that water was dripping into their rooms. Maintenance was called, and they found the chips, with a tournament value of 2.7 million, although they had no actual cash value.

Congrats to her, brilliant and she is the first 2 time winner on the EPT.

She did run rather well to bust the final 2 players, I only watched from 3 handed down.

To get to heads up she held A10 vs opponents Q10 on a 2 10 10 flop, got all in on river to cripple him.

Heads up she held QJ vs opponents AA on J Q x board, got all in on turn with him covered, he had 12 outs but she held.

Sorry details missing but I'm sure pokernews or pokerstars blog will have the complete hand histories.

Hopefully this win will generate some more publicity for poker in the UK.

Do many people on here still play poker online or live? I see this thread used to be quite active.

I played a lot during my uni years and the following year with decent results but since getting a job in late 2009 I have played far less. I'm keen to get back into it (online) and had a good winning day on Sunday.

It's obvious how much tougher the games have become now. I'm aware that I need to put some time in studying the current trends and analysing my own play if I am going to be a consistent winner.

Don’t play online much, but occasionally play "live" at Pokerstars in Macau. They have weekly tournaments running throughout the year and every 2 months a big event.
If you are a serious player it would probably be worth your while making a trip over for one of the big events as I am told its softer than Europe and the US.

If you make the trip during the footy season it would be good to watch a Palace match with another Palace fan for once......I am the only one in Macau!

Right guys. First you need to sign up with this site http://www.highstakesdb.com/

Then via a link and a code on that site you need to sign up to WillHill poker. Think you might need to deposit a tenner or so.

Then each Thursday you can play their exclusive tourney with some cracking prizes and a massive overlay. Please dont tell too many people though!

I cashed for $25k at the WSOP. But probably doesn't count. Live, I did $750 or something at a $2/$4 table up in Connecticut a couple of years ago. The next night I got a $600 one-table tourney win. I had some $1500 or so MTT wins back in the day playing online. But never really went up to big stakes. At least I didn't lose a million dollar buy-in.

WCOOP is slightly different, its the world champs of online poker on Stars, big buy ins mostly, but smaller micro tournys too i believe, big fields. Dont play in them myself as involve too much time commitment and dont have the bank roll.

Generally I play on 888 MTT that last 5 or 6 hours for $20 buy ins etc, or single table sit n go's, double or nothing type things.

To win a WCOOP or final table, I'd be guessing at a 14 hour stint at least, maybe 28 to 40 hour stint for the bigger ones (they do break!)

Thanks for the support & kind words guys. To answer a few queries, I'm currently backed which has it's perks but any profit is like an immediate 50% tax. In regards to how long these things take can really vary depending on which tournaments you are playing, a turbo tournament can be wrapped up in 3-4 hours but due to the fast paced nature, you end up taking spots with minimal edges in order to chip up which creates a huge amount of variance. A regular speed is probably going to take 5 hours minimum, so you do have to be prepared to put in a long session. Being able to multi table well gives you a much better chance of making scores on a regular basis.

As stated, the WCOOP is going on at the moment, this is a three week series that involves a lot of high stakes tournaments that have slow structures and involve lots of deep stack play, so if you have a post flop edge then these are great to play because skill becomes more of a factor.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

No problem. I was in Isle of Man for a couple of years but moved back to Sheffield and now work based out of home. I travel a fair bit.

I work on the Commercial / Business Development side and mainly focus on trying to get us into newly regulating markets (trying to get in front of decision makers and people writing laws so they don't draft stupid regulations, managing teams to get licenses and launch in countries). One of my team, for example, is managing the UK project.

It's quite an interesting role, as you touch pretty much all areas of the business.

Nice. I was hoping to get across to the Isle of Man this week but couldn't make it. Although we are not allowed to play online we are now allowed to play certain UKIPT events, including the IOM. Haha - I'll give you the polite version.

Main given reason is that those determining the regulations at the time were worried about fraud, money laundering, collusion etc. (i.e. their French players under their regulations would be victims of fraud by players who didn't join under their regulations). They just didn't trust that the other players at the table weren't sufficiently checked under say Isle of Man regulations.

There was an attempt last year to change this in France but it failed. Efforts continue but France is hard as it requires a change in primary law (and is therefore politically difficult).

There were also commercial reasons that meant the big French monopolies were against it.

Well. Decided to play a tourney on PS, not been there for a while, the 130K big one, entrants about 10000, finished about 140th after 7 and a half hours for $90, not sure if it was worth it or not.

Anyway, found the play a lot slower than before with people seeming to take for ever to bet and not seeing that many hands. I do find the mid game difficult to play, so if any of the experts on here have any advice for that, it would be useful.

Got up to about 200K, yet the chip leader had 1.5M! Lots of open shoves with virtually nothing, so when having about 120K and getting shoved out of position and seeing myself with Jacks, felt like it was a good call. He turns over A6 offsuit and rivers the Ace and then shows me a cartoon picture of a shark!

In general the games keep getting tougher all the time as the player pool becomes more and more knowledgable.
I've been enjoying the new Spin n Go tournaments on stars this week. They are an ideal format for playing on the mobile whilst at work! Biggest prize I've had so far was $150 at the $15 buy in. Had anyone else had a go on these?

The situation on Pokerstars as I understand isn't one to be too concerned about. The changes are due to new online gambling regulations that basically mean two things:

1. A company that offers online gambling to a site must pay tax to the nation that the player is from. This will not come from money won in tournaments or cash outs or anything like that, instead, the rake we pay will be used and we will earn fpps at a slower rate to pay that tax as of 2015. We can still play with the rest of the world.

2. The auto-rebuy for tournaments or auto-top up stacks will be disabled for cash games. This is quite annoying, but is an interpretation of a law that prevents someone from playing slots to empty their account without realising it. Whether this will change in future as poker is a grey area when it comes to gambling remains to be seen.

Not as good as we've had it, but it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

Bizarre outcome last night, had been drinking a bit so didn't take too much notice, entered a $30 Omaha hi/lo tournament, noticed only 5 players in so treated it like a sit and go, was chip leader for most of it, went 3 headed and guy in chat box kept saying do a deal, I thought no point as prize money probably only $100 or so, so kept ignoring it, had dominant chip lead and won it quite comfortably, then to my surprise, pop up from pokerstars saying they made it up to $500 and one payout so won $500, no wonder they wanted a deal lol

Im giving right back up! so many stupid players out there, calling with nothing, hoping to hit an ace, or calling with nothing and hitting two pair on turn and river, or 3 of a kind on turn and river when flopping nothing..... these are raises called, or shoves called.....just baffles me.....

A bigger bankroll against better players and id do much better! awful calls from awful players/luckboxes......

Not online poker actually, but was just looking at the updates from down under at the Aussie Millions and realised we have an anti-sweat on our hands guys.

Tony Bloom is still in the super high roller with 17 players remaining. 8 make the money so lets root for him to stay alive a bit longer and bust in 9th.

And he busted in 10th place. AUD100,000 down the shitter!

First time I've seen his name around the poker scene in a while.

The spin and go's on Betfair are ridiculously easy to win, well at least at the $5 level they are, there's the lure of a $1 million prize pool but in all of them I've played it nearly always goes on the $10 mark.

For example, I get KK, remember these are hypo's with 500 chips, guy has 66 and raises to 100, I reraise to 240, he has to fold or push all in, but he flat calls and then calls all his chips off the next hand on a 10 high flop. Your small PP have massive equity as A2 offsuit is shoving material for most. The only annoying thing is that if that happens with the other 2 players (usually in the first hand) they have you outchipped 2 to 1 before youve played a hand.

And I was wondering during the whole of this spin n go promotion do you think there will be just a single 1million dollar game or a few ?

They have wrecked my cash and sit and sit and go games that gave me a very good additional income so have decided to grind spin and goes for the past couple of weeks. So far so good but today I must have played around 200, and I reckon 180 have been min prize the other 20 have been 4 buy ins. Incredible.
