This thread is only to be used for competition comments. Any other bets that are not part of the Masters should be put on the normal Betting Thread.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the betting masters '24 must “register” (post on this thread) before the end of 18 of November. It's free to join and the only rule upon joining is that you start your first tip with I'M IN in capitals at the start of it so that I can keep an easy trace of when people started their campaigns.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single game is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis.

3 In the second round the 4 finalists all start on 0 points, but the winner from the first round will get an additional 10 points (1 bet) to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round.

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the 01 of November (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on Sunday 20/11/05. Then the top four posters come together in a mini league from there on and out November month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the 30, November.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score on December 1.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as a single bet in the masters, which means 10 points / 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. When an event has started it is not allowed to edit one's own bets/posts.

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together.

The annoying thing is that I had winners at 9/2, 4/1 and 11/4 yesterday and backed a nice 5/1 winner this lunchtime as well. By the time Friday comes around I'll probably be back on a losing streak.

Some interesting matches in the U21 qualifiers:
Can't quite believe the price on England - the first leg was very even (finishing 1-1 thanks to a late Darren Ambrose equaliser) and I expect the second game to follow the same pattern. Don't think home advantage will count for much and, playing away, may actually make England play with more freedom.
Italy managed a 1-1 draw away & while a draw will see them through, they will want to score to guarantee their progress.

Last night I had £2.50 each way on a 40/1 shot in the last race from Newmarket, South Africa. It absolutely hosed up. Unfortunately, the 1/5 fav was withdrawn right at the off and the deduction was...80p in the £ from all bets. :(

Win. Colorado only managed 3 goals, so the payout dropped to only $69.09. That gives me 382.7 units from my 20 bets. (for some reason I moved the Utah/Memphis o/u so far that the bet was practically useless. So much for 1st.) Sorry this bet was at 5Dimes.

Can I put in Bet 1 of the playoff round? Well, Bet 1 and Bet 2, Carlos Mortensen e/w in the Monte Carlo Millions poker tournament. He is at 66-1 to win, not sure the return here on a 2nd-4th place finish. I have it bet out at Stan James, it says possible return of $84.50 on $2. I guess that is if he wins, and its only $18.50 if he comes in 2nd-4th. (I don't know, not used to e/w bets) The tourney starts tomorrow and ends on 10/23. Where does this fit in the Betting Masters calender?
