This thread is only to be used for competition comments. Any other bets that are not part of the Masters should be put on the normal Betting Thread.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the betting masters '26 must “register” (post on this thread) before the end of 18 of January. It's free to join and the only rule upon joining is that you start your first tip with I'M IN in capitals at the start of it so that I can keep an easy trace of when people started their campaigns.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single game is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis.

3 In the second round the 4 finalists all start on 0 points, but the winner from the first round will get an additional 10 points (1 bet) to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round.

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the 01 of January (International Dateline time, all other times are standard UK time) to 2359hrs on Friday 20/01/06. Then the top four posters come together in a mini league from there on and out January month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the 31, January.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score on February 1.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as a single bet in the masters, which means 10 points / 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. When an event has started it is not allowed to edit one's own bets/posts.

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together.

Been watching it for years. I've been friendly with various wrestlers in Japan for years. (most female :D ) And have been introduced to various MMA'ers. Been watching PRIDE outta Japan for years now. I picked various favorites for my pick here, but there are other fights tonight where I like big underdogs. (Just didn't want to waste a bet here in the BM thread, which I'll wait to do on the 19th anyway.)

When I lived in South Africa, I went to a couple of wrestling matches...as we knew a Wrestler there...pretty good stuff and no messing around in the ring.....lots of blood every time....:eek:

Nope, not dumb enough to get into it with those ladies. I went to Japan with my cousin back in May, and we went to a women's wrestling show to see one of my buddies. (Who happens to be a 5'10" 200lb black woman) My cousin was agog. He turned to me halfway thru and said, "DUDE! They're beating the shit out of each other." On that same trip, I was out with some of them and we were waiting for another one of them who was cruising the city with her posse of 4 girlfriends. (Yes, 4 girlfriends. And a few of them are gay :p ) They got hassled by some American GIs. It turned a little violent, she got a black eye and one of the GIs got a broken collarbone.

Winner, sort of. Gracie went to a draw. (he refuses to have it go to a judges' decision in Japan anymore) Heath Herring also went to a no contest. During the staredown, Nakao kissed Herring on the lips. Herring responded with a right hook that knocked Nakao the F out. So the fight never even started and Nakao earned a trip to the hospital for being a dumbass.

So, the upshot of this is, the Parlay gets knocked down to a return of $36.26.

I was thinking about a possible change in the rules. I often do a small side bet as cover for a bigger bet, for example, I place a bet on Over 2.5 goals on a game where both sides have a good chance of scoring. However, knowing that the game will be closely fought I also place a small bet on a 1-1 draw.
Bets are already split for each way bets on horses (5pts each) so why not split other bets in a similar way, for example 8points / 2 points.

Example:
8 points on Over 2.5 goals @ 1.8
2 points on correct score 1-1 @ 6.0

If the game finishes 2-1, 14.4 points are scored
If the game finishes 1-1, 12 points are scored.

This would also mean that you could take advantage of stand-out prices from more than one bookie, for example: 5 points on Away win 3.5 (Bet365), 5 points on Draw 3.8 (StanJames).

I think that the bets have to be related to be split in this way (as illustrated above) but in theory you could extend it to encompass a series of high odds bets such as first/last goalscorer e.g. 2 points each first goalscorer all at 6.5: Aki, Hall, Watson, Ward, Hughes. This may be more contentious as effectively you are getting five bets for the price of one (although your return is only one fifth of the ‘normal’ bet)

I have put some more thought into the possible rule change and may have something that would be to everyone’s liking.
At the moment the Masters consists of 20 10 point bets (200 points total). Instead of limiting people to 20 bets why not allow people to make up the points value of their bet as they like – progress is thus measured in number of points left to bet with rather than number of bets. There would need to be a couple of rules, for example, maximum of 20 points on any one bet (to stop someone winning by placing all 200 on a lucky shot).and a maximum of 50 bets in any one month.
I just feel that the current format is a bit artificial – it is like placing a goldmine bet each time – and does not really reflect how most people approach most bets, adjusting their stake dependant upon the perceived likelihood of success.
As most people already calculate their own returns and post up any adjustments, I don’t think that it will entail any greater degree of administration.
