For those of you on here that followed before, Boolavogue has just returned from injury and won a Derby trial at the weekend.
The owners / trainer are still deciding what to do but likely to be entered soon.
You can currently get 150/1 at Hills but obviously a long way to go (3 Heats, 1/4s then 1/2s)
I am going to have an ew punt anyway just thought I would share it as I know a few won a lot on it last time.
Dan.
Edit: Just placed my bet and it seems to give you 6 places for the E/W so basically got to make the final for a pay out
Thanks for the PM on this.
Will have to remember to do it when I get home :lux:

yeah i had 50 on him
just checked i had makfi at 46-1 with a fiver on betfair
and twenty quid e/w at 10-1 so £400 winnings make more sense
so betfair compares well to the 33-1 i would have got elsewhere

HARRY FINDLAY has said he will appeal the six-month ban imposed on him on Friday and added that, win or lose, he is unlikely to continue as a racehorse owner in Britain.
The owner and professional gambler was banned by theBHA from running his horses for six months and warned off from visiting racecourses after being found guilty of laying one of his own horses to lose on two occasions.
Findlay said he was determined to clear his name. "I'm going to appeal but, whether I win the appeal or not, I honestly don't think I will be owning horses again in Britain.
"I'm a gambler and all I have is my word. My CV wouldn't get me a job stacking shelves at Sainsburys, all I have is my reputation.
"I understand why they don't want people even hedging but they can't destroy someone's livelihood. I'm not talking as Harry Findlay here, I'm talking for racing.
"The people who ultimately decide if people are charged with gambling-related offences do not understand gambling. It cannot be right."

BETFAIR said the warning-off handed out to Harry Findlay on Friday for laying one of his own horses to lose was "disproportionate" and "inconsistent with similar offences in the past".
The professional gambler was banned from running his horses and from visiting racecourses for six months after found guilty of twice laying Gullible Gordon to lose on Betfair, but the betting exchange pointed out Findlay was a net backer on both occasions.
At Exeter in October 2008, Findlay laid Gullible Gordon to the sum of £17,638 but backed him for £80,004, while at Chepstow a year later he laid the horse to the sum of £32,033 but backed him for £64,000.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin said: “While this may have been a technicalbreach [of the rule on owners laying horses] he was, in effect, overwhelmingly a net backer of the horses in question.
“When the rule was introduced the then Jockey Club made clear it was a rule that necessarily had to be applied in spirit as well as in law. We do not believe the punishment to be proportionate or, for that matter, consistent with similar offences in the past. We will continue to welcome Harry as a customer.”
The BHA stressed the independence of the disciplinary panel but said it could not comment in detail on the case as Findlay has seven days to appeal. Findlay has said he will launchan appeal.
“As with all disciplinary inquiries, Mr Findlay has seven days from the receipt of the panel’s reasons to appeal the decision, when he can also request a stay of penalty," the BHA said.
"Should he choose to appeal, we hope the appeal board would be in a position to consider such an application on an expedited basis. Consequently, it would be inappropriate to comment further on the panel’s decision.”

So he mainly backed the horse, and layed some off?? I dont see anything wrong with it
Ian Hart
11-06-2010, 08:38 PM
I tend to agree with you Steve. As he says, he's a professional gambler, and that's something that professional gamblers do.
I wonder what would have happened if instead of laying his own horse, he instead backed the, say, 3 main threats in the race. This is effectively the same strategy (except that another horse altogether might have won) but I wonder if they would have found that to be illegal.
The whole decision is illogical and poorly thought through.

Well it will be an interesting day at Ascot, some great races :)
Cant back Mafki, dont like the fact the jock has jumped ship to the other french horse so I believe Siyouni will finish ahead of Mafki. Dick Turpin is the fly in the ointment for me...... keeps getting in the way of canford cliffs!! So i cant decide what to do with the race..... Really like the American horse in the last race... won first time out over 4 furlongs by 10 lengths then the 2nd won next time by 12 lengths, and other runners from the first racr have also franked the form...... Really like Strong Suit too in the 4.25, when Hannon says its their best 2 year old you take notice!
for what its worth....
Paco Boy (Queen Anne Stakes) - Hannon: "Paco Boy would be as good a miler as we have trained, and, while it's true that this year's Lockinge might not have been the strongest renewal, he could hardly have won more impressively. He seems a different horse this year and his extended winter break has played a big part in that, but both Goldikova and Rip Van Winkle have beaten us before, so we need to have improved."
Hughes: "I was surprised to see Paco Boy favourite when the bookmakers started betting on the race, and I think they have now got it right in putting Goldikova top of the pile. She has won eight Group 1's and is a phenomenal mare, and she is going to be hard to beat. I also have a lot of respect for Rip Van Winkle, but, while he beat us easily in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood last year, our fellow is never that happy on those Sussex Downs and I think we'll finish much closer to him here. It's a different Paco Boy this year and he has an electric finishing kick, but this is a vintage Queen Anne and it will be tough."
Canford Cliffs (St James's Palace Stakes) - Hannon: "He has improved physically since our Guineas and now looks tremendous. He was too keen in the Greenham and again at Newmarket, but he was awesome when he finally got a proper pace in Ireland and, while we are certainly not underestimating Makfi, who is lightly-raced and can only improve, we have also gone forward as you saw at The Curragh."
Hughes: "I just hope we get a decent gallop as everything went right in Ireland, and that is the way to ride him. Aidan has a pacemaker in there and the American (Noble's Promise) has the rails draw so will probably make use of that, but Makfi is the one I fear most. He looked very good at Newmarket and can only get better, but, having said that, Canford has been a different horse since our Guineas and settled so much better in Ireland, and if he reproduces his Curragh run we'll be right there."
Strong Suit (Coventry Stakes) - Hannon: "He is the best two-year-old we have run so far and we all think the world of him, but all bar one of the 15 are winners and six are unbeaten, so it is going to be a hell of a race."
Hughes: "He has a bomproof temperament, which can be a big advantage this week. I have loved him from day one and, while he might not have the electric turn of foot of Canford Cliffs, he is a very good colt. He settled well at Newbury and when I picked him him up at the two-pole he quickly went three lengths clear, and, though something will invariably come and beat you when that happens, he actually quickened again when he was challenged, which is always the sign of an above-average horse."
However, Hannon warns that Dick Turpin is the forgotten horse of the St James's Palace and expects him to run another huge race.
He added:"I would always rather keep two good horses apart and would have preferred to have run Dick Turpin in the Jersey Stakes, in which he would have been a shoe-in even with his 5lb penalty. But John Manley, his owner, makes the point that he has already beaten Canford Cliffs twice, and, with his French Guineas form having been given a terrific boost when the winner followed up in the Prix du Jockey-Club, it is hard to argue against allowing Dick Turpin to try and grab his own Group 1. Ideally, he would like a bit of cut, but he might just get the best of the ground on the first day, and he'll run a big race, too."
"We also run Roche des Vents in the Windsor Castle Stakes, which is the one two-year-old race to have eluded us at the meeting. He is very fast, as he showed when winning at Lingfield, and, while this is a step up in grade, his early pace might enable him to keep tabs with the American (Metropolitan Man), and after that you never know ...."

and still he goes on about Lion Mountain...
"He was a short head behind Bullet Train (who then won the Lingfield Derby trial, but didn't handle Epsom), then he won next time by 6 lengths, and the last race can be excused. The form is similar to Fair Trade who is 10/1...
40/1 is ridiculous. Or 64/1 on Betfair is just plain madness."

The prices at Royal Ascot this week have been a disgrace.
I don't know what is going on but I do know it is as bent as a nine-bob note.
There have been quite a few races this week where every runner in the race is being shortened up significantly - they can't all be being backed off the feckin' boards.
It's a carve up. :veryangry

Too early for tips - currently we're still at the 4-day declaration stage so far more runners are listed for each race than will actually turn up on the day - Hannon still has about 7 entered in the Super Sprint, for example.

GOLD CUP-winning owner Harry Findlay has had his six-month ban from the sport overturned and his penalty reduced to a £4,500 fine.
Findlay received the ban last month after being found guilty of two charges of laying Gullible Gordon, a horse owned in partnership by his mother Maggie and Paul Barber, on Betfair to lose in races in 2008 and 2009. On both occasions, Findlay's 'back' bets outweighted his 'lay' bets, and he stood to lose money if his horse lost.
Findlay appealed against the ban, which came into force on June 11 and originally ran through to December 10, and his case was heard by the BHA appeal board on Wednesday. Findlay was represented at the hearing by barrister Roderick Moore and solictor Daryl Cowan, both of whom acted for free.
In their findings, released on Thursday morning, the appeal board stated: "We intend no comment upon the Rule in question [the laying of one's own horses] here, that is not our role, but we do feel that in principle a clear distinction needs to be drawn between a lay bet placed as part of a corrupt practice or even conspiracy and a betting strategy which has not interfered in any way with the integrity of the race and in particular the running of thehorse in question."
The statement continues: "As to the appropriate penalty, our starting point would have been that the £4,500 by which Mr Findlay improved his position should be removed from him and a further fine imposed which was significant in the context of the very large stakes involved. The result couldhave been a substantial overall fine.
"However, we cannot undo the fact that Mr Findlay has suffered disqualification and the indignity of it for over a month now. That will remain with him and we regard itas a serious penalty in itself. He was, for example, prevented from attending Royal Ascot where he would have seen one of his horses win and generally lost every aspect of an owner’s participation in racing during the last month.
"We consider that a fine, removing the extra profit made from the Chepstow affair, namely £4,500, will suffice in the particular circumstances of this case which obviously shouldnot be regarded as a precedent by anyone covered by the Rule, contemplating a betting strategy involving lay betting."
:) common sense prevails

Nice racecard tomorrow Bellyman. I wouldn't say I was hugely confident in my selections but if was going tomorrow, I think I'd back these:
1.45 Only 5 runners but still not easy. Hannon has been cleaning up in the two year old races all season so I'd stick with Measuring Time, I think.
2.15 On a form line involving Starspangledbanner you'd have to back Markab in this.
2.45 Beckett has two in the race and I fancy what looks like his second string - Agony And Ecstasy
3.20 Yeah, good luck! Hannon has 4 in the race and Reckless Reward and Jaahiz look pretty good. Temple Meads could be really smart though so I'd probably back him as well!
3.55 Stimulation has by far the best recent form so I'd go for him, I think.
4.30 Oasis Dancer wasn't completely disgraced in the Irish Guineas so he ought to be able to win a class 3 race.
5.05 My two against the field would be Alnwick and possibly Mykingdomforahorse
Good luck matey - have a good day either way. :p

bump this tomorrow evening
I'll try to remember. Be leaving quite early on Thursday - pre-racing pub lunch and all that. :)
I'll have my own ideas, of course, but always interested to hear your selections. :p

Having a quick look now
First race is very tricky
Aattash beat Start right by 2.5 lengths last time out and Start right won well at Goodwood today, but was unlucky in this race only getting out after the race was won, so Aattash may have been flattered by the winning margin.
London Stripe went down a battling 2nd to Dandino last time, and Dandino has since run well including a close up 2nd today, London Stripe has Ryan Moore on top and we all know he is always worth an extra half a length or so, and the horse is still on the upgrade.
Mark Johnson has a strong hand in the race with 3 runners and Capponi looks good here, but has gone up 15lbs for 3 good races in handicaps including 2 wins, the last won a convincing performabce at York. Racing off a 100 here will be a hard task for a young horse in a tough handicap yet Johnsons runners a tough tough animals, the extra 2 furlongs here might well negate the rise though and bring about extra improvement from the horse.
All the big yards are represented, Cecil, Hills, Hannon, Stoute, Johnson, Gosden, Godolphin....
After all that I think id go with the Stoute runner, London Stripe, beautifully bred with Moore on top, the drop back in trip shouldnt be a concern and he will be rattling on home at the finish. I hope :)
And now for race 2....

Excellent stuff. I was looking at Markington in that race I think? I was at Goodwood that day that Aatash won and I backed it for £5 at 12/1 - I knew I had heard the name Start Right before today - now I know why!

Wow, an American invader in Starfish Bay, interesting, cant tell you much about the form by they have booked Frankie so a big run expected i guess!
Anyways i like ASTROPHYSICAL JET, light weight, first time in a group race, won very well last time out at newmarket over todays distance, improving horse, was well backed from 7/1 into 9/2 fav when won last time so maybe the they have found the 'key' to the horse :) hopefully a backable e/w price :)

3.25, 2 mile group race
just cannot back AGE OF AQUARIUS at around 7/4 15/8 as it currently is, would much rather be on PURPLE MOON e/w at 8's. yes AOA ran very well last time at Ascot but Goodwood is a different track altogether, and Purple Moon has won at Goodwood before. Im sure Cumani is determined to get a group race out of the horse and he will be trained to the minute for the race

Ignore that comment about Markington - that's tomorrow, not Thursday.
I could never back a horse on-course at 15/8 - not for a tenner a race like I'll be doing - plus, I never get AOB's horses right anyway.

4pm, 1m6f group 3 race, really tricky IMO. nothing stands out although Godolphins Flying Cloud is rated 8lbs better than anything else in the race but i think it could be flattered by its run last time out when plugging on but not closing in on the winner of the race, Chinese white, and everything else was already beaten, The first 3 throughout remained the same at the finish.
Unexposed Ships Biscuit goes for Stoute/Moore, only 4th race, only ever run in maidens, races off of 90 here, won last time out at Goodwood but that wasnt a strong race and only really had one horse to beat in the Gosden runner Scorn, was over 1m4f that day and was staying on well, but for a lightly raced horse to go round here at this distance in a tough race wont be easy so id probably swerve it.
The one I like is Pollys Mark with Hughes on top, was fav for a group 2 race last time out and finished a close up 2nd to barshiba who is rated 108, Pollys mark is rated 106 so ran right up to her mark, she beat everything else well enough in the race and encouragingly all her race notes have her 'staying on' or 'closing in' when running over 1m4f. Hughes has ridden her 4 out of the last 5 times and will know her well, the horse also finished 8 lengths and 4 places behind harbinger a few starts back and we now know what a good horse harbinger is.

4.35, maiden over 7 furlongs, some unraced horses here so cant comment fully but Electra Star was fav on her 1st and only start and finsihed a promising 3rd, closing on the winner well at the line.

5.10 7 furlong handicap
Fireback for me, improving horse, quite lightly raced, beat 19 other horses in a good handicap over 6 last time out, incl gene Autry who reoposes again here, by 1.5 lengths. Andrew balding trains and he always seems to improve these handicappers and targets the right races for them. drawn 4 which might be a bit tricky but im hoping the horse will have the early pace to get near the front and fight them all off as over 6 last time he was still finding and running hard for the line.

Steve, you're an absolute gent. Some great analysis there which I've enjoyed reading even if they all blow out.
Re: Ships Biscuit - that was the other winner I backed last time I was at Goodwood and the horse looked an absolute picture - won as easy as you like even if he didn't have too much to beat. I might find it hard to desert him, tbh.
Thanks again fella. :p
Saul - little point backing Canford Cliffs tomorrow. It's not a penalty kick so I wouldn't be jumping in at odds on, even if could afford a decent stake.

Switched off Markington on to Junior myself - as you say, if he repeats his Ascot performance he should go very close.
Glad I'm going tomorrow and not today - don't much like todays card. I'm hoping that Sea Of Heartbreak can step up in class today - I like horses that can accelerate off a fast pace - plus if he wins or goes close today it'll be a good pointer to quite a few horses that are running tomorrow. :)
Also noticed that Ryan Moore is going to Sandown for 4 rides tonight, unlike most of the top jockeys - would have thought that was a tip in itself for at least the two Stoute runners.
