Sad indictment on the standard of Irish racing when they serve up that tripe as a G1...

By the sounds of it Cecil and the Workforce team decided to swerve SYT this early in the season. Was a pretty poor turn out, if nothing else the race for second place had nice prize money.

I certainly am BB!! How many rounds till the final are left?

Next is Round 3 this Saturday - he is in Heat 6 and is 2nd favourite at present out of the 6 dogs.

Round 3 = Sat 28th May
Quarter finals = Tuesday 31st May
Semi finals = Saturday 4th June
Final = Saturday 11th June

He is down to between 33/1 and 50/1 for the title now

As you can probably tell I am crap at picking winners but I have noticed that Ruby Walsh had several runners yesterday at Limerick and 3 for a trainer called A J Martin. He had a 9/2 and 6/1 winner out of these three.

Walsh is racing at Sligo tonight and once again has three runners for A J Martin. The previous form for his winners yesterday didn't look great and in truth the ones tonight don't seem to have very good form either.

I know even less about Irish racing than I do English racing but thought I'd draw peoples attention to it just in case.

I hang my head in shame :(

Barkston Ash 1st 9/4

Picked up nearly £200. Hoorah!

Only had 20 minutes break from work popped into the bookies and picked out You've been mowed 7/2 - Kings counsel 8/1 - Snow Bay 8/1 and finally normandy Maid at 5/1. First two won.

Only picked the last one as It was tipped up in the paper and I was running out of time would have picked easy terms at 8/1 but got put off by the terrible write up It got in the paper, hate it when I do that. :(

Still a win is a win

Interesting. Although there are 5 meetings on the flat today I can't say much jumps out at me and I was thinking about including him in a double or treble if he was 6/4 or better.

Not his best distance for sure - but there doesn't seem to be much strength in the opposition today.

Id love to hear your 'study' thoughts Gooders, way up in the weights, been in ok form, but never won at 6F before today, bred to be a 5furlong horse, yes it had the beating of Thirteen Shivers at the weights but the other runners???

Well done though :)

Gooders
26-05-2011, 02:52 PM
a) Hadn't run on soft yet but his half-brother acted on it
b) Effectively 11lb better off with Thirteen Sivers for a 2 length beating when he was outpaced (over 5f), didn't get the clearest of runs and was running on at the finish
c) The write-up's of his last 5 or 6 races all implied that he wasn't stopping over 5f and I would not be worrying about breeding when considering whether a horse was going to be a 5f or 6f specialist - that's taking things a little bit too far, IMHO
d) The favourite, Captain Kolo, was beaten easily by Mr Optimistic last time and was 3lbs worse off

Most obvious pick of the day, in my opinion, and I'm very happy that I pointed it out to 2 guys whilst in the shop, as they both backed it based on what I told them. :p

He's a good claimer, that lad. If Hanagan had been riding it and it had been 5lbs worse off (albeit with a stronger jockey on it), I wouldn't have backed it.

Re my other selections - the 6.00 isn't much of a race and although Archie Rice would have to improve a bit to win it, 8/1 looked quite generous to me and I like Frankie anyway.

Dunn'o ran well first time up this season and of the 4 races he's won in his career - 3 of them were over course and distance. Again, 7/1 looked a good price to me.

Very poor fare for a Friday.

I wanted to avoid selecting anything at Newcastle because of the awful bias on that track but there's so little to pick from that I don't think I have any choice.

Newmarket

2.55 Instance

Kept looking for something to beat it but I can't find one, unless maybe there's some improvement in Swiss Dream

Brighton

4.50 Diddums

Won at the course yesterday (beating a selection of mine and costing me another £200 in the process!) If it turns out again today it could definitely win again as it's a poor race.

Pontefract

6.25 Mont Ras

Looks to have improved over the winter and there's not much strength to this race.

Newcastle

3.20 Falcun

Another weak race and if he's ridden a bit more enterprisingly than last time out, he should win.

4.30 Klynch

Looks as though he may have one more race in him before the handicapper nabs him.

Looks as though he may have one more race in him before the handicapper nabs him.
All good chances, I think that bias is more evident on the straight course on handicaps where they split, so 3.20 should be fine. The 4.30 is where it might come into play

Thanks for putting your selections up and I like the name of the horse at that place on the south coast. Seems to be what we should be saying to their reaction to the Murray signing. :)

Klynch will probably win an other handicap yet - that was a reasonably comfortable victory in the end and you could tell the jockey had been told not to win too far.

Flag Officer was either running green or showing signs of not being fully wound up in the last furlong - Buick struggled to hold him together for a while and then he ran on again. Will definitely pick up a race or two this season I should think.

So, another profitable day, hoorah!

I've done a small each-way double tonight on:

Ours 6.25 Pontefract 10/1
Maybe I Won't 8.45 Haydock 25/1

The Racing Post described Ours as a "hold-up horse". He isn't. He's an old monkey that always gets himself seriously behind and then runs on from the back in the last couple of furlongs - sometimes he gets there and sometimes he doesn't but it's always entertaining to watch. Small field so each-way at 10/1 is a fair bet, I reckon.

Maybe I Won't has no great record fresh and doesn't run over this distance very often but he improved for a step up in trip towards the end of last season and again it's a small field so 25/1 each-way is a sporting bet.

Had a day off the bets today. The only one I was tempted with was Desert Law in the 3.25 but he was 2nd so pleased I kept myself away from my betting account :)

I watched that too. Bizarre. But if you watch it again it looks at though the horse was fighting the jockey to get with the pack running on the nearside.

Apace wins - and that form line we've been following involving Swiss Dream, Mr Optimistic and co is upheld once again. :p

Apace didn't seem to get much space at the start I thought it came through really well after half way.

I love it when a form line like this comes along where basically every horse that finished close up in a couple of races comes out and wins next time.

I don't know how you manage to keep track of all the subsequent races...but I'm glad you do :p

Well I was thankful to Swiss Dream yesterday, that was a late punt on that one for me :p

Jazz Apollo was 4th last night. Winner won by 5 1/2 lengths and then 2nd to 4th had just 1 1/2 heads between them so close but no cigar. Really young dog so looking forward to him progressing

E Street Boy who was won me a lot of money recently goes at Fontwell up another 10lbs but Connor O' Dywer takes off 3

Paoletta who impressed me at Windsor runs at Nottingham probably will be short though

Evo I like Fame and Glory at Lepoardstown but will be short priced

My good run has come to a crashing halt today.

When I posted the other day that I "had my eye on a couple at Nottingham", the main one was Solemn.

I went off it after studying the race a bit harder - just won at 16/1. :sob:

Thanks for that one :p.

Nice run from Fame and Glory there, would have been a bit worried if my money was on it though.

A 16/1 2nd (by 1 1/4 lengths) and a 5/1 1st is pretty good going plus another chance in the 5.30 :p....another 2nd. Very close to being a very good Lucky 15.
