Doubt would have won but the draw def didnt help.....

The draw only really comes into effect at Musselburgh when the going is soft. The 2nd horse was only 2 stalls away and the 3rd fairly close by as well - and he was beat 6 lengths!

Rotten day for me again - I'll take a week's break until Royal Ascot now I think.

I fancied this first up but just don't have any confidence in Frankie atm so sided with my selection, hopefully Ryan is feeling hungry after not winning the derby.

Not one winner.

My previous worst Epsom, I still broke even and had 2 winners.

I'm down over £100 on the weekend.

I knew today was going to be bad. Lost a Fiver on the way to buy the papers, £2 on the way to the train station. Fallon booted off Recital. Dropped a beer on my iPhone.

Ah well, always next week.

Didn't put it up but my dad spoke to George M about his new horse (Rebellious Guest) a few days ago - he spent a fair bit on it and did fancy it today but advised us not to go crazy and bet e/w. It just hacked up and won very easily and looked to get the hang of things pretty quickly for it's first race. He said that he was entering it in the Coventry stakes at Ascot next week and is hopeful to have Tom Queally on board again so I thought I'd give the heads up as it could go well again.

I'll have a look tomorrow.

Had a few fancies today for the first time this week but the prices are mostly too short:

Newbury 2.30 Levitate
Newbury 4.50 Four Nations
Nottingham 5.10 Miss Topsy Turvy
Haydock 8.50 May Be Some Time

I was also looking at Rumh in the 3.05 at Newbury, given who she finished 3rd to last time.

Here's hoping evvo - couldn't believe the price on Kuala Limper - his saddle slipped last time otherwise he probably would have won his last 5 races - his level of form was clearly better than the horses they were backing in that race today and he had Hanagan on top!

Here's another one that mystifies me later - the 7.20 Haydock. Ballarina is the favourite and yet can't possibly beat Ingleby Star at the weights based on recent form. I don't get it.

Morning chaps.

A day for small stakes today, I think.

The 3.15 at York is the kind of race I like to try to find the winner of and I was all set to put up Hawk Mountain but he's a lot higher in the weights now than he was when winning a similar race over course and distance last year so I think at 9/1 I'll take a chance on the reliable but probably slightly lower class Bollin Judith.

In the 4.25 Mr Optimistic is running against older horses for the first time but on the plus side they are pretty average older horses. I dare say he will be run out of it but at 8/1, I think I'm willing to take the chance.

In the 5.30 I was going to go for the bottom weight Pokfulham despite it's stupid name but I have a sneaky suspicion that at 14/1 King Zeal may well run a decent race. Bits and pieces of his form would definitely give him a chance in this.

Over at Goodwood, I don't understand why Bow River Arch isn't favourite for the 6.15 and at 6/1 he looks good each-way value.

Good luck guys.

Just thought I'd pass on something I overheard in the bookies earlier. Some guy that seems to do quite well was telling his mate about a tip he'd had from some premium service he subscribes to.

He wouldn't say the name out loud so I had to sneak a look at what he'd written down - it was Bubbly Ballerina in the Queen Mary next Wednesday at 20/1.

Now I know we all fancy Shumoos for that but I just checked and I see that Alan Bailey has booked that flash young chap M. Barzalona to ride Bubbly Ballerina - he must think it's got a decent each-way shout, at least.

Some interesting stats

Both Canford Cliffs and Goldikova are short in the Queen Anne Stakes
at 2.30 and whether you back one of those or one of the others there
are one or two stats you need to bear in mind....

A 4- or 5- year old has won this race every year since 1985.
Whilst that stat undoubtedly suits Canford Cliffs and a few others
in the race it's one that will have backers of 6-year-old Goldikova
(the winner of 13 Group 1 races) reaching for the indigestion
tablets. Over the last 10 years 21 runners have tried to defy the
stat. One recent superstar to fall foul of it was Rakti who was
fancied by the market to defy the passing of time back in 2005. He
was sent off at odds-on to prevail as a 6-year-old and got turned
over.

Nine out of the last 10 winners of this were colts or
geldings. Goldikova did the business for Freddie Head last year but
she's the only mare to win this race in the last half-century.
Plenty of decent females have tried and failed in that time. As
recently as 2008 Finsceal Beo and Darjina were sent off at the head
of the market only to fall a little short. Goldikova is special but
- despite her trend-busting performance last year - the boys have
long held the advantage in the Queen Anne and she's another year
older this time round. Freddie Head's other runner, Flash Dance, is
also a mare.

Steward review? Surely Hughes was trying to block Goldikova's run and pushing her into the fence?
