You see this is why it's time to give up on the flat racing.

A couple of runs back Excelette finished 2 1/2 lengths in front of Artistic Jewel over 5f having finished strongly whilst Artistic Jewel faded.

Today at the same weights Artistic Jewel beats her by 3 1/2 lengths over 6 furlongs and what's more is backed before the off, whilst Excelette drifts.

What chance have you got?

Gooders I just saw this. I watched this race at the time and Artistic Jewel got a bump at the start which definitely affected her which resulted her fading, so it wasn't a fair 2 1/2 length defeat.

That is going to be a good race with Diamond Harry, last year's Hennessy winner in the race, who goes well fresh

Haventascooby was followed on her last year as it ran up a sequence of hurdle wins. Won its first novice chase well, only to fall last time out. Will be very short tomorrow as far the best horse in the race, but always a worry when a faller last time out as a novice

2 for me tomorrow

Via Galei at Ascot - circa 10/1 hacked up in a handicap at Sandown last year. I am sure Moore has laid him out for the race with a recent prep run-

Muirhead around 8/1 in the following race- I watched it hack up in a recent race in Ireland, some jockey and distance, better ground tomororow, but its has a far higher handicap rating in hurdles

Yes, you're right, the race I looked at was a horse of a similar name and was it's next run out. Always found end of season flat racing a tad dodgy.

Yep, not a good time for the form-book, for sure.

Looks like I'll be travelling a fair bit over the next few weeks so that'll be my opportunity to give it a rest for a while.

Don't really fancy anything today but I'll be interested to see how Diala goes in the 3.55.

Just looked at this, Time for Rupert apparently had a broken blood vessel and a lung infection when running at cheltenham, you may have thought they might have checked the horses health before running but never mind, Diamond Harry good fresh as you say but hasn't run since a ligament injury, so best left alone. Weird Al had great early season form and may surprise them, but worrying that his form completely tailed off at the end of the season as well.

I had a small Lucky15 in the end on Saturday - one non-runner and the other three all placed 2nd.

On the plus side, the Flat racing appears to be plumbing new depths over the next few days, so hopefully I won't be tempted.

Has it been like this since after the stupid rules change regarding the whip or does it happen every year around this time?

Saw this on QI the other night, shouldn't laugh but unfortunately I did:

'Frank Hayes was a jockey who, in 1923, suffered a fatal heart attack in the midst of a race at Belmont Park in New York. His horse, Sweet Kiss, finished and won the race with his lifeless body still atop, making him the first, and thus far, only, jockey to win a race after death.'

This time last year I'd just won three and a half grand at Longchamp. :)

Nah - not the whip thing to blame evvo - just having a spell of rotten luck - I've only had one good month in the last five.

Not being a follower of the jumps, it does get quite tough for me during the winter months - the only thing to do is to wait for some formlines to emerge on the all weather and wait for the course specialists to show up.

Will be a quiet few months for me now.

Love the story of the dead jockey. :D

Not today it won't evvo. Wandered to the shop for a chat at lunchtime without any real intention to have a bet but then I noticed that a horse I remembered from the flat was having it's first run over hurdles - Jodawes. I had my shrapnel (£1.80) on at 28/1.

There were only 7 runners but the starter at Plumpton managed to let them go with more than 20 lengths between them and Jodawes in last place.

He was beaten 2 lengths by the odds-on favourite - would have won by miles with anything like a level break. That starter needs shooting. :(

I think betting on the flat at this time of year is a nightmare. However, I try to look for some lays as that is where I thiink it is possible to win. I don't like recomemmending them as they can be costly.

Gooders is right about the all weather flat racing. Horses tend to race each other regularly on the same type of surface

So You Think gets a plum draw in five for the Breeders Cup Classic, he is also blinkered to keep him about his work. I think he can win this easily, 5/1 is a big price.

The Peddler's Cross race wasn't a betting heat.It was a race to watch with a view to how it will perform in better races later in the season. I was impressed as it was a very good jumping display and it is a good betting proposition in future races.

Constrast that with Australia Day yesterday, who jumped some fences in breathtaking fashion, but made a terrible mistake at one fence (jockey's fault) in my opinion and put in a couple of shortys. Not convincing at the moment

Word of warning on Noble Prince - massive movement out on betfair was around 14s now at 29s. so maybe not certain to run.

Paddy Power

I have backed Mon Perrain at 8s, trading at 4.4 at the moment and will trade out to make a profit before the race. I think this will go off around 3.5 on betfair. I like Dave's Dream- Henderson horse won a big handicap at Sandown not so long ago . I had e/w intersest at 25. now 17-18.

Cue Card has a lot more ability and speed I think, but has been clumsy at his chasing, Henderson's is more of a stayer and a good fencer. Would see value if Cue Card was favourite, but Henderson's chalked up at 5/6 which is just on the wrong side of backable.

No, they thought it had no chance so took a bet of £18 at 1000.0 so ended up having to pay out £18,000

Mind you I would say it's highly unlikely that person is a long term Betfair loser, probably makes £200 a race on 1000.0 bets and has to pay out as above every few months

It's £18 and not £36 as Betfair count the money someone has backed and the money someone has laid twice I believe

He had an awful draw, has never been any good first time out after a break and the owner said

Still, I'm sure you know best Steve - and lumped on at 16/1.

nope, I wasnt around yesterday.

As I said, top weight, so best horse in the race, alot of handicaps are one by top weights, there is no difference here, the draw changed nohing as he was dropped right in at the start and got a great trip round, the race was set up for him.

It is a fitting end but let's face it, he couldn't win that race today - and the fact that he did just shows how bloody bent racing is, at least at the lowest level

That just says bitterness to me, tell me how on earth that race was bent?! Explain it to me.... I take it you saw the race or have done and can clearly see how you came to that conclusion and can talk me through how the race was 'bent'?!!

by the way, the last time the horse raced off of 60 in 0-60 handicap, guess what, he won!

Had these today as singles and as a double: -

16.20 Kempton - straight forecast
1. Perfect Cracker
2. Hooligan Sean
@4.07

16.50 Kempton - straight forecast
1. California English
2. Sujet Bellagio
@6.04

1st bet won, 2nd bet CE was 1st but SB came 4th with a 33/1 and a 100/1 popping up between them!

However in the 16.50 the 33/1 came 2nd called Fortieth and Fifth - if you get a chance to see the race watch this horses finish - amazing pace and was flailing at the back to start with. One to watch as was its maiden run

4/6 Ladbrokes to win World Hurdle - money back if it doesn't run - attractive bet

Proper horse.

Have something for tomorrow, looking at the 14:35 at Ludlow - people are focusing on the AP/Curtis mount and Longsdon's one who both seem short enough.

Only Witness is 12/1 and beat Cantlow in a point to point last November, jumped well enough last time out and is carrying nothing tomorrow. Worth a go at the prices if nothing else.

On another point, I placed this bet with VC - I'm making my total less than it should be - they are saying because of the non-runners there was a rule 4 of 15p, is this normal or bull shit? Seems a little extreme for horses that were declared non-runners early too. Even with that rule 4 I make the total wrong.

Maybe me just being greedy but seems a little fishy.

BET365 hit me with a 15p rule 4 but the returns were right

99% it was 1/4 last night, when I placed the bet there was 13 declared - whether that makes a difference or not I don't know.

That's what I make it too Steve, it isn't what I have got though.

Yep. Any account that consistently wins gets limited first and then closed. Bookies are renowned for it. I don't bet with VC and SJ because they limited my account and one of them was a losing account overall. Ridiculous really.

Of course but sometimes its better to bet with the bookies. This morning I really fancied Trip Switch and was happy to back it at 11/4 as I thought it was a good price. So stick my £20 on it for £55 winnings.

It won at 9/2 and because I backed it with a BOG firm I got an extra £35 winning that I wasn't expecting.

Add the fact that you can do Lucky 15s etc
