and PN sounds more positive

"This morning he's having physio already," he said on Sky Sports News. "He's going to canter as normal today and we're hoping we can get him there, but there's just a chance we might not.

"He's just a little stiff. You get a little older and take a little knock and it takes a little bit to get over it.

"It's getting better each day so we're still hopeful. We've still got a fortnight, but we want him at his very best to run in the race."

"He's been in seriously good order and there's still a chance - it's not a foregone conclusion. It's not a massive problem it's minor. The big day will be a week Saturday when he does his last strong piece of work before the Gold Cup. He needs to thrill Clifford [Baker] and Clifford say 'yes he's right back to normal'. He will definitely have another school."

Today has the potential to be "one of those days" for sure - every horse I've selected is running against others that I've backed but don't fancy today.

All at Lingfield:

2.10 Hierarch
2.45 Princess Lexi
3.50 Jimmy Ryan
5.00 Caldercruix

It might do yes - Princess Lexi has let me down a number of times this season and I won't be taking a short price about it. Cheers Steve.

Fourth Estate (win) @ 2.36

Henderson has some nice types all over the place today and could get a few winners. I like this one, already winner over course and distance, won his two bumpers and won well despite running green on hurdling debut. That form is good enough, but he will improve as well.

3.20 Lingfield

Not doing this now. This isn't the first time I've noticed this, but often horses seem to be getting pulled out for no reason and two have come out here meaning little value opposing the favourite now, the second favourite here ran behind the favourite last time. So where 2 or 3 had a chance I don't think it's worth opposing now. Just sticking with my winner for today.

Question for you Gentlemen,

I'm looking to go to Cheltenham, but apparently, the only tickets left are the £80 ones. Now, bearing in mind that i'm taking a bird with me, justifying £160 for 2 tickets, plus train tickets, plus betting is quite tough.

Anyone know if some of the cheap tickets are still out there anywhere?

Even saving the £60-80 would at least pay for my gambling for the day :D

5 today

2.20 Doncaster

Corkage (win) @ 3.9

Slightly up in grade but deserves a go here, ultra consistent and running off 11 stone, in a small field should go well.

1.55 Kelso

Absinthe (lay) @ 1.84

2nd by 16 lengths at 8/13 and 3rd to Lyvius doesn't read good either after yesterday, easily opposable.

2.30 Kelso

All the best racing seems to be at Kelso (eek).

Maggio (win) @ 2.88

Think he has a tad more about him than the favourite and is the value bet rather than laying the favourite.

3.05 Kelso

Red Tanber (win) @ 3.55

Has 5 wins out of last 7, unsure why trading this big.

4.10 Kelso

Ballabriggs (win) @ 2.9

Won the national sure, but his chasing form is pretty sensational and top rated off 160 here.

Captain Cardington (2pts place @ 2.32)

Tipping service is back after a short break, they didn't have a spectacular February but had been decent before that, they did have a lot of 2nds and 3rds at big prices and were good with their place betting so willing to give them another months chance. You can tell which ones they are as they will have a staking plan behind them i.e. 2pts, 1pt etc.

4.30 Lingfield

Munsarim (win)

One of the best methods for getting winners is using winning form with C&D form and you can get some nice priced winners like that. Munsarim is 3/3 in this grade, won over C&D and should win again. Not untypically though, 2 have come out leaving only 6 here so has gone from 2.5 to 1.63 so can't get interested at that price, but will do if he drifts nearer the evens mark.

Revised whip rules make no sense. Same penalties but stewards can use discretion but jockeys get 2 days extra penalty per stroke of the whip. And in valuable races can get fined anything from £200 to £10000.

The place horse ran like a pig. Don't understand how you can win a similar graded race and then just come last beaten 6f out. But still. The other one won (8/15) but ran the most bizarre race, Joe Fanning let him drift to the other side of the track, looked like he had lost about 8 lengths, but was never ridden, hands and heels ride and won by 3 and a half lengths, dismounted afterwards, maybe a problem.

Thats why the horse wears blinkers and runs in claimers/sellers now

i wouldnt say it ran a bizarre race, it just drifted across the track and jockey let it go as its such a huge horse that fighting it might have made him pull up

Here are the new whip rules ...

THE BHA on Monday released the latest revised guidelines over use of the whip, with stewards now able to impose discretion on jockeyswho are in breach rather than automatically giving them a ban.

While the total amount of strikes; seven on the Flat and eight over jumps, has not been altered, where a jockey is in breach the stewards can now decide whether to hold anenquiry.

When deciding whether to hold an enquiry, the stewards will consider the rider's use of the whip, and also any circumstances which may permit them to disregard its use.

Stewards may consider:

a) The manner in which the whip was used, including the degree of force;
b) The purpose for which the whip was used;
c) The distance over which the whip was used and whether the number of times it was used was reasonable and necessary;
d) Whether the horse was continuing to respond.

In deciding whether to disregard strokes of the whip, stewards may consider relevant factors such as whether it was used; to keep a horse in contention or to maintain a challenging position prior to what would be considered the closing stages of a race; to maintain a horse's focus and concentration; to correct a horse that is noticeably hanging; following a mistake at an obstacle;
to correct a horse that is running down an obstacle.

With the acceptance that it is a greater incentive to breach the rules in races of greater value, stewards will also have the power to impose fines between £200 and £10,000 on Flat races worth £27,500 or more and jump races worth £20,000 or more.

The new rules will be in place from Tuesday, March 6, giving jockeys a week to come to terms with them before the start of the Cheltenham Festival.

Jamie Stier, the BHA's director of raceday regulation and operations, who will be working with the jockeys, said: "The revised rules give jockeys the opportunity to use the whip sensibly, and the stewards now have discretion when reviewing a rider's use of the whip.

"Their focus will rightly be on the manner in which the whip is used. I have confidence in both the jockeys and stewards to apply their judgement judiciously in this matter.

"It is important that riders do not misinterpret the ability of stewards to exercise discretion as a reason to use their whip more than they do at present. Thechanges are being introduced in order to remove the occasions when a rider was given a disproportionate penalty on account of the lack of flexibility within the rules.

"The objective is to maintain the improved standards of riding which have resulted from the significant efforts made by riders to abide by the reduction in the threshold levels regarding use of the whip, while applying discretion where it is warranted."
Paul Bittar

Paul Bittar: focus on racing
PICTURE: Dan Abraham/BHA

BHA chief executive Paul Bittar added: "The focus over the coming weeks should be on Cheltenham and Aintree, the climax to what has beena fantastic jumps season and then on the start of what promises to be another vintage year for Flat racing.

"As has been evident in recent months, the subject of the whip and how its use is regulated remains an emotive subject; not only for those who make their living from the sport but also for the public who come racing and those who watch our sport on television.

"For the future long-term health of British racing it is vital that our sport's customers and viewers have confidence that the welfare of racehorses is not being put at risk by a rider's use of the whip. I am confident in our ability as a sport to manage welfare issues and I believe that taking account of the design together with thelower thresholds for use of the whip we have effectively removed the potential for use of the whip to be a welfare problem."

PJA chief executive Paul Struthers welcomed the changes, speaking on At The Races, he said: "All the changes amount to is a culmination of what we've been discussing over the last few weeks and we're pleased with what has been announced.

"This gives jockeys the chance to use skill and judgement as a horseman and not worry about having one strike left. What we need to do is get away from a strict numbers game and the jockeys hope that this is the last set of changes."

Rumours that Long Run not performing well at home, being pushed out by betfair who initially suspended betting. Henderson denies all rumours.

“The horse is going out to work now,” said Henderson. “I heard last night that he was drifting. Unless someone's been in there in the middle of the night and hit him with a hammer then I don't know why. It is most annoying because it's the last thing you need. All that worries you. Nothing has happened.”

:)

Sad to see Peddlers going for something else, will have to side with Cue Card e/w if he drifts out a bit. Don't particularly like the horse at all but they seemed bullish and the race is shocking for favourites with one win the last decade...

A few rumours flying around about the festival. Take them or leave them.

Long Run continues to drift, can be backed at 2/1, but "nothing at all wrong with him" - 5/2 may yet be value. Midnight Chase is fancied each way at 12s.

From the Alan King stable, Invictus has had a few problems in recent days though they won't define what those problems are.

Grumeti was lame yesterday after spreading a plate and getting the clip in his foot though they think he will be fine so long as there is no infection.

Vendor is strongly fancied for the Fred Winter @ 7/2, King thinks he is as good as Grumeti.

Montbazon has a "very good e/w chance" in the Supreme Novices hurdle

Bless the Wings "big e/w chance". Not too sure what race he is entered in.

Hold on Julio has had problems and needs to be treated "with caution". Again, don't know which race this is running in.

The word on the street in the Champion is that if Hurricane Fly turns up he wins. Binocular as e/w value, doesn't like Zarkandar. Outsiders possibly Thousand Stars and Brampour @ 25 and @ 50.

A few rumours flying around about the festival. Take them or leave them.

Grumeti was lame yesterday after spreading a plate and getting the clip in his foot though they think he will be fine so long as there is no infection.

Cheers Saul.

As I said yesterday, the strong word I'm getting is that Balder Succes is more fancied than Grumeti anyway. And there's no obvious reason why Grumeti would beat Pearl Swan, IMHO.

Can't stand that R C Guest stable - Nolecce backed in from 12/1 to 8/1 and wins after not doing much for ages - his winners are often gambled on like that - makes you seriously wonder how often they are running on their merits.

4.15 Leicester

Chapel House (1pt win, 2pts place) @ 6.6

However trading at 4.1 on betfair now

3 possible lays

3.05 Leicester

Sybarite lay @ 2.06

Beaten by a combination of 166 lengths in last two starts in similar company, can't see how he can go off Evens here. Lay of the day.

7.20 Wolverhampton

Munificence @ 2.44

Will lay if this becomes shorter, form figures 32 seem ok, but one of those was behind Captivity who is poor at best and several others with a chance here.

7.50 Wolverhampton Douze Points @ 4.7

Obviously won't be laying at that price, some people like to lay at higher prices but one loser wrecks your profit. I have 10 wins out of 14 lays and I think the highest was 2.3. Was on the RP tissue as 11/8, last 6 form figures of 008980 despite the weakness of the race and new yard cannot be backed here. If the price does come in might be interesting.

Completely agree but his price is just too short for me - had him at 7/2 last year. If he turns up and he's fit then I reckon he wins but like all the really decent Cheltenham animals this year, the odds are prohibitive.

yep, but im sure we can bank on some longer prices coming in at the festival. you always can

finding them is the hard bit. the form of the favourites is usually so solid that one gets blinded by it, might be what ive done here with hurricane fly

ive backed Darlan antepost at 20/1 for the Supreme Novices, hes now 5/1 fav. No way he should be. Fell last time out, admittedly when travelling superbly, but his two wins before he just did enough to win, whilst looking like he had the world at his feet

hes obviously been priced up at 5/1 on potential rather than actual form. if he gets any shorter ill be laying off

1. As someone that follows racing and bets often, it was still incredible to me watching Morning Line yesterday and all Nicholls horses walking out onto the gallops and being named. It was like a Who's Who of the best jumps horses of the last 5 years. Incredible.

2. Is there anywhere that has the up-to-date cards for the first couple of days of Cheltenham, i've got a free afternoon, so wouldn't mind getting my first few bets done.

For what its worth,

Hurricane Fly
Sprinter Sacre
Quevega
Sizing Europe
Long Run
Big Bucks
The Package
Grand Crus.

Trebles and various accas= seven grand if they all win.

The Package
Paintball
Sprinter Sacre
Peddlars Cross
Oiseau de Nuit

Super yankee= a tidy sum if they all win.

The one I am looking forward to is Oiseau de Nuit, sadly it does not run until the last race on Friday.
Next best is The Package, which I hope will recover my losses from its narrow defeat last year.

Two possible lays

4.55 Market Raisen

The Mad Robertson @ 2.7

Want the price to come down a bit, but beaten in two NHF Grade 6 races, 2nd when 11/8F and hanging and comes across horses here who have won in grade 4s. Bookmakers have the right odds here though.

5.25 Market Raisen

Was tissue 11/10 in RP, and if shortening to that would like. Has moderate form and opposing off a short price.

Sprinter Sacre fans should be happy that it's and apalling Arkle, only 5 runners, can't remember when there have ever been that few and is 8/11 from 5/6, it's another thing in this favour and looks unopposable.

A couple of lays

2.20 Taunton Ozela (lay) @ 2.26

Uninspiring form in last two starts. A 16 length defeat in a Grade 1 doesn't look that bad until he followed it up with a 37 length defeat in a Class 4 last time out looking disinterested. Worth opposing.

4.40 Stratford

Finlay's Find (lay) @ 2.46

Hopefully this will contract in a bit before the off. Hasn't completed a race under rules (unseating twice) including when 1/4F in a Leicester race last time out. Not only has he got to get round this time but has to beat the winner of that race as well. It's a Hunters Chase so you never know what you are going to get, but looks well worth opposing.

PP obvwant people to back SS now as they have such liabilities onthe rest of the fieldwith their money back offer, was always their plan i guess.

1:30 - Have Darlan at big prices but am dutching Steps To Freedom and Galileo's Choice.
14:05 - Not a betting heat for me but at the prices you have to back Al Ferof with Paddy Power.
14:40 - Can't have The Package at all - Fruity O’Rooney at 20/1 for me.
15:20 - Hurricane Fly to beat Rock On Ruby.
16:00 - If ever there was a watching race, this is it!
16:40 - Quevega but another non-betting race.
17:15 - Odd pricing up here, small e/w plays on Ackertac, That'll Do and Carrickboy (in that prefered order).

Disagree 100% :)

Alright not many runners

But Al Ferof will now go for the King George and the gold cup next year, was unbeaten over fences until last time outand ran 2nd behind two very highly rated horses.

Menorah is rated very highly over hurdles

Cue card won the champion bumper couple years back and is very highly tried
