Bit of an odd hotch potch of racing for a Saturday. Note that Pat Eddery's Marvelinho makes a quick reappearance at Lingfield, he thought a lot of this horse and is trading at 8.8, don't know what to make of that considering he was favourite for the Brocklesby.

1.50 Haydock Kings Grey @ 3.55
2.50 Carlisle Degas Art @ 3.1
3.30 Haydock Aurovas Encore (e/w) @ 12
4.05 Haydock Persian Snow (e/w) @ 10

Just went to have a look and was already to tell you to get over your blind love of Borderlescott but the horse really should win that race at the weights! tough race though, Think bear behind could run well and go close.

best racing on Sat is in Oz im afraid.

Bear behind wins :) first past the post but then placed 2nd by stewards, but bookies pay first past first and amended result :)

And I must stop backing Godolphin horses - I never get them on the right day. :(

I had backed BP from it's first run and took the double figures prior to Ascot, I too like Owen but I also find it hard to catch the yard right - too many of their horses are gambled on and come nowhere. Plus I don't trust Kingscote with gambled money.

3.10 Towcester Huckleberry @ 2.58

Going for the hat-trick and up against disappointing sorts here.

4.15 Towcester Brass Tax @ 2.64

Usually like to avoid races like this and lay these sort of horses in big fields, but he's been highly tried and has some placed from in Grade 1 events, and drops down to a class 5 here. Should win.

4.30 Fairyhouse Flemenstar @ 2.2

Seems a fair price considering he's Irelands top novice, including when handing out a 19 length beating when in an Irish Grade 1.

Winner. Drifted to 3.9 before the off, got 3.65, returned 15/8, looked like he'd win easily after taking it up at the last but stopped to a plod on the run in and hung on by a couple of lengths. :p

saul1664
08-04-2012, 03:37 PM
Brass Tacks slightly disappointing, found nothing from 2 out, but Flemenstar very impressive, won by about 15 lengths, needs to find some better competition now.

saul1664
09-04-2012, 09:02 AM
Flemenstar now 8/1 for the Gold Cup. 7 meetings but all of them dross.

2.25 Yarmouth Periphery @ 2.24

Dettori is riding for his retainer at Yarmouth today, and this looks likely on his short head second at Newmarket last year if there is no support for any of the newcomers.

4.45 Yarkmouth Zaeem @ 2.66

Again Frankie up here, but his retainer runs the first two in the betting, moderate in three runs last year but drops a class here and should be hard to beat.

2.40 Fakenham Marky Bob @ 1.68

Not suggesting backing a hunter chaser at odds on, but if he drifts past evens would be a bet here, winning profile under PTP and run under rules last time out (again when well fancied) ending up with a 86 length victory. Expect more of the same.

That was a question, not a statement. 5th (beaten about 10 lengths). Found absolutely nothing.

saul1664
09-04-2012, 01:48 PM
lol. The jockey on the hunter chaser rode it like it was over 5f, won by 30 lengths but he knackered it out so much it just about jumped the last.

saul1664
09-04-2012, 02:17 PM
Red Scintilla got placed, drifted to 20s before being backed in, took 3.55 for a place on betfair, paid more than backing the odds on favourite. :lux:

saul1664
09-04-2012, 02:39 PM
Hmmmm. Jamie Spencer gave Irie Ute a pig of a ride, going well behind, stuck behind a wall of horses, had to switch to the outside to get a run, leaders had gone by then, finished about 5th or 6th, not given a hard ride. Worth looking at next time.

saul1664

4.05 Southwell Spartilla @ 4.6

Can complete hat-trick in small field here.

7.00 Fairyhouse Salsify @ 2.9

Can complete hat trick if running to Cheltenham form, has a mysterious pulled up in his form figures and it's a hunters chase and a big field but clearly best here.

Going off @ 8/13, good spot, Scarlet Whispers certainly has good form lines and could be an e/w bet to nothing. Favourite certainly a bad price, but has not done too much wrong. Trying not to get involved too much in early season maidens after Saturday.

Main bet:

Kinryas 4.25
Boss's Destination 4.35
Hatta Stream 4.45
Liberty Ship 5.15

Secondary bet:

Toymaker 2.20
Punching 3.00
Quixote 4.05
Ay Tay Tate 5.25

Shrapnel on Ambrose Princess in the 3.50

Plus two football teams that I would love to see lose this evening so I've backed them to win singly and in a double - Hoopy Twats to beat Swansea and Weeds to beat Reading.

Have been going slightly off the boil, just before Aintree and today is difficult, still some bits and pieces.

4.30 Catterick White Deer (e/w) @ 9.4

6.00 Kempton Steelcut @ 5

Would prefer over 6f as he can start his races off the pace sometimes but got a great consistent records of wins and close up places and worth factoring into the price.

7.00 Clean Bowled @ 8

Progressed through claimers and ran well in a class 4 last time, beaten over a length into second, steps up to 1 mile and 4 furlongs here, don't know if will suit or not but faces 4 others, mainly with maiden experience and since he has improved with every run has a good chance here, no way should he be 8s, theres 1lb between the top 3 on official ratings.

9.00 Kempton Black Cadillac (lay) @ 2.7

Supposedly well handicapped but form figures are poor and has a big field here to deal with.

saul1664

On an early tomorrow, but will be back in time for the racing, so may have other bets than these but these are my fancies so far

2.30 Grumeti
3.05 Riverside Theatre
3.40 Silver Adonis/Sherrif Hutton
4.50 Pepite Rose
5.25 Corkage

Would like to look at a place bet in Big Bucks race with 8 runners but haven't been through the others form yet.

Grumeti I didn't think came up the hill very well at Cheltenham after looking dangerous and can be more effective on a flatter Aintree track and I think will reverse the form here.

I really like Riverside Theatre but he had a hell of a hard race at nam and hasn't won over this distance, I'm still going to back him but am a tad worried.

Backing Pepite Rose as she sluiced up last time out with any amount in hand and can't be having Al Ferof or Menorah here.

Corkage won very easily last time out and was desperately unlucky in a big handicap the start before travelling well and being done on the line by one that came from nowhere, and I think is well priced at 18s last time I looked.

For me Grumeti's jumping let him down as much as the course and pace, the latter of which will be the same, if not faster. I personally don't think he will reverse form, even if I did there is no value in 7/2.

Small each ways on Shoegazer and Star of Angels in the 17:25 - 14/1 and 16/1.

I've gone off my selections in the 3.40, 4.15 and 5.25. :)

Will probably do Pearl Swan in the 2.30 - the commentators and even the race write-ups from Cheltenham didn't do his run justice - yes, he was under pressure and niggled along from miles out but he would definitely have been placed had he not fallen at the last and may even have got to the winner. I'll give him another chance I think.

I have the complete yips in the 3.05 - on the one hand I don't want to desert Riverside Theatre but on the other hand Burton Port did nothing wrong in the Gold Cup and has the proven stamina. Will probably come down on his side in the end.

Right, I've decided:

2.30 Pearl Swan
3.05 Riverside Theatre
4.15 Kid Cassidy

I wouldn't change much from yesterday, and am having a plethora of bets. First of all two tips (not from me)

3.05 Aintree Medermit (1pt win, 2pts place) @ 6.8/2.28
5.55 Wolverhampton Art Dzecko (1pt win, 2pts place) @ 5.4/1.92

Now to mine ...

Looked at Smad Place in the first for a place as he's the most likely one, you get to back Big Bucks at 1.2 or Smad Place to finish top 3 at 1.44, none appeal. Of course you could always double up everything with Big Bucks, but as having several bets don't want to **** them all up if he does manage to lose (and he will one day)

2.30 Aintree Grumeti @ 4.1

Can't get away from him, I know others think he will struggle, but just think the flatter track will suit, led over the last at Cheltenham and just didn't seem to be suited by the hill, I think he has a big chance here.

3.05 Aintree Riverside Theatre @ 4.4

It's a hard race, I'm not deserting him as I've backed him both times so owes me nothing and 4.4 is fair to factor any additional risk, will go double handed with Medermit in this one as well. Am worried that the Cheltenham run may take it's toll as he's been lightly raced in the past.

3.40 Aintree Silver Adonis (e/w) @ 14.5
3.40 Aintree Sheriff Hutton (e/w) @ 60

Know nothing about these, got tipped them up in the week, having minimum stakes each way for fun.

4.50 Aintree Pepite Rose @ 3.95

Seems to be coming in for support, I can't see how Al Ferof merits being 11/10 here after his last two runs, and can't get excited with Menorah even at 5/1, good safe jumper, showed significant improvement last time (wasn't a fantastic race though), but good enough to back here.

5.25 Aintree Corkage (e/w) @ 50

Unless I am a bit demented, isn't this a tad too big, won well last time out and unlucky second in a big handicap time before, cruising to the lead 2 out, to be done on the line. Yes, it's a big handicap, but seems to travel well in his races and able to stay up with the pace, I can think of worse 50/1 shots to back.

Away bets .... Away bets ...

3.20 Folkstone Dark Ages (lay) @ 2.4

Running in a seller, always run over 5f, now at 7f, which makes him enough of a doubt to oppose at short prices.

3.30 Newton Abbot Carrigmora King @ 1.98

Good form in a better grade, price shows obvious chance.

6.55 Stand Guard (lay) @ 1.76

Form in weak sellers but got slammed by Trans Sonic by 7 lengths at 4/11 last time, little downside, easy lay.

Good luck with these, might need it.

Don't have coverage to see the race, only followed the live odds on BF and saw it was hopelessly drifting away :D

Hope the animal activists aren't going to go too crazy, half of the field fell over.

Think Kumbeshwar will like Aintree compared to Cheltenham, might be well handicapped.

As I said, I'll be pissed off of it wins here - likely to be left with too much to do out the back which is a big mistake at Aintree.

Weirdest Pricewise selection in a long time.

Had Cloudy Lane 8/1 and Edgardo Sol 6/1 in my L15 and Burton Port but only second still a decent return seeing as I wasn't going to bother today.

at the prices surely you have to back Menorah in the next at Aintree??

Just saw I backed a load of 100 to 1 shots each way whilst I was in McDonald's earlier and also had 20 quid on one of the favourites, turns out it was cloudy lane - result
