First day of any meeting is usually the best.
Two for me tomorrow:
Gullinbursti was a N/R today because they fancy the Sefton instead (£100k pot vs £40k). 12/1 seems a decent each way bet, can't have Fingal Bay after injury scare and I'm not chasing to get my money back on Cotton Mill at such short odds.
Poquelin each way at 8/1 hoping the dead 8 race screams value. Can't have Fininians Rainbow with yard's form, still don't think he would have won had they jumped the last at Cheltenham anyway. Deserting Albertas Run here.

Might be worth a lay at that price but would rather place lay it, it will either win well or come nowhere and only 2 places, but strictly going by the weights nothing can get near it, easily best in the race.

Was going to have a big bet on Finians, doesn't look like it has much to beat here. Someone said something was wrong with the yard, whats up with it?
Fingal Bay's defeat of Simonsig reads very well, but may have caught him on an off day. Cotton Mill I think must have been distracted by something before ducking out, was very odd and had won 3 times before with no signs of ungenuiness, but haven't had a proper look yet.

I wouldn't be having a big bet on it either Jam(even though I like it)- firstly first run over fences at 2.5 miles for Fiinigans(although has run that distance over hurdles) and Albertas Run flies at this time of the year- Poquelin and Wishful Thinking are 2 capable horses too

That thing went off 1/9, beaten 12 lengths, it's Al Zaroonis, had two short priced favourites at Yarmouth last weekend, first one beaten 14 lengths, other one second behind his bigger priced stablemate, stable screams out to me as dodgy as ****, won't be backing any of his.
Munsarim I usually back that won as well, Red Somerset usually runs in sellers, when he went up in grade to a claimer, he was well beaten by 10 lengths after giving away about 15 at the start (he does start his races slowly) so would have required a big leap of faith to back him in a better class handicap.

I got 6/1 on The Giving Tree yesterday thanks to Al Zarooni having two runners backed off the boards in the same race - one of them had Barzalona on it for his only ride of the day and the other one had Frankie up.
They finished last and second from last. :clown:
I can't have any of that stable's runners any more either Saul - you just never know when they'll find form.

Not being funny gooders but that was nothing about form, that was just punters punting! both horses were first time into a handicap after running in maidens and punters thought they were well handicapped on the day, but they werent. Maybe those horses just arent that good seeing as they couldnt even make an impact in maidens. People just see Godolphin blue and punt it, especially those that dont go to racing often and Frankie is onboard.
Gooders
13-04-2012, 08:18 AM
I guess so, but it must have taken a whole lot of eejuts to smash those two in the way they did - or maybe it was a very weak market. Oh well, it bumped up my winnings, so it's all good! :)

2.00 Captain Conan

5.25 Diligent

This is what I've been given this morning, about to have a look for myself and will be back with more myself.
3.05 Aintree Finians Rainbow (3 pts) @ 2.76
3.40 Aintree Fistral Beach (e/w) @ 25
4.15 Aintree Tap Night (e/w) @ 24
5.05 Sedgefield Lawgiver @ 4.3
His e/w bets tend to be a bit hit and miss, had some nice priced winners off them but also horses that tend to end up nowhere, so they're not strong recommendations, back them if you want, if I do, will be to small stakes for fun rather than serious money.
JamTheEagle

Was a favourites day yesterday for the most part, could well be today, a lot of the races are actually quite uncompetitive.
2.00 Aintree Darlan @ 2.72
Was going well when falling in the handicap which Zarkandan won, then finished second to Cinders and Ashes at Cheltenham (with some of the others in todays field close up) but hard to oppose on that level of form, if Hendersons yard is really that much out of form, might be interesting to see how this runs. If he gets beat a long way then it would send out danger signals but he does look solid.
2.30 Aintree Champion Court @ 3.2
Nicholls saddles two here, both were very disappointing last time out, especially Silvanho Conti, Champion Court on the other hand has been a model of consistency and likely to make the running, so shouldn't be caught out in any tactical battle.
3.05 Aintree Finians Rainbow @ 2.76
The more I look at him, the more I like him and that is a massive price, factor in for Albertas Run, who did chase (and probably should have beat) Riverside Theatre at Cheltenham, form badly let down yesterday. I don't buy the theory that Finians Rainbow would have lost at Cheltenham if he had to jump the last, hardly a poor jumper and felt that Geraghty was holding on to him to challenge late in any case and the distance was one and a quarter lengths not a head or a neck, he's high class and has won over the distance before so not worried about that, if Darlan doesn't run too well in the first, the stable form may be an issue but looks the bet of the meeting for me.
3.40 Aintree Fistral Beach (ew) @ 25/6.6
4.15 Aintree Tap Night (ew) @ 23/5.6
4.15 Aintree Cotton Mill @ 7
I don't believe Cotton Mill is ungenuine in any way, I think something spooked him at Cheltenham and he just ducked out, was travelling strongly at the time and looked that he would be second at worst, he's got 3 previous wins behind him, and I like his chances here. Fingal Bay looks good but he's short here, think he may have been slightly flattered to beat Simonsig (and don't think he'd finish in front of him again), but obviously he's the main danger.
5.50 Sedgefield Lawgiver @ 4.3
7.25 Wolverhampton Island Legend @ 3.7
Good luck!

That's a great price for Cotton Mill Saul. I disagree that Fingal's was flattered when he beat Simonsig -
saul1664
13-04-2012, 12:26 PM
What I mean is that Simonsig cruised up to him and then flattened out a bit when going through with his effort and think he has improved significantly since - don't think you should take that form on face value, though admittedly it is the best form in the field, if you take it literally he can't be beaten. Trading at 7.6 now btw.

Simongsig is 1/2, Sprinter Sacre is 2/11, nothing there unless you have a chunky double. Never been lucky doing things like that though.
First glance Rock on Ruby @ 3.65 seems reasonable but would have to look a bit further, think it was a tad of a poor Champion and Aintree favours the speed horses.
For the national have been tipped 4 or 5 against the field, most of them probably most of you have got in some guise or other, the usual suspects, but think the most fun is finding the winner yourself, so I'll be doing that, plus putting 6 in for the forecast and tricast. Nothing else stands out yet, though will be waiting until after midday to assess.

Hmmm. Chapoturgeon seems a bit short, backed it last time out with an amateur up, you'd think he'd be better with a proper jockey on top, but not for me. Did well today, had Darlan, a 30/1 placed, and £50 on Finians, not a big bet for some but is on my range, so very nice. No need to go crazy tomorrow.

Ubi Ace is very interesting Jam as I have been following it all season - Was doing well under its previous trainer then it moved to O'Neill, who targets the big meetings.
I also like Chapuoturgen - Mcain's best bet at Cheltenham was Cloudy Lane, who finished 5th there to Chapo's 2nd, but won at Aintree

From his Betfair column:
Chapoturgeon
I thought that he was going to give myself and David Johnson a Cheltenham Festival winner - I own half, along with David - jumping the last in the Foxhunter but he couldn't quite wear down Salsify on the run-in. But he has come out of that race in good form, and this 2f shorter trip is a positive too. And I think he is reasonably treated off a mark of 138 as well. Hasn't enjoyed the best of luck in his two starts round here - falling at the first in 2009 and being brought down the following year - but I am hopeful. In fact, I think he will go very close to winning.
Fingers crossed!

A bit after the Lord Mayors show today, though will be nice to see SimonSig and Sprinter Sacre come out again, no value and had far too many nice winners this week to go chasing odds on shots, but the double may make appeal for some.
Haven't heard anything today apart from the national tips from last night, looking at the race later and will do usual forecasts/tricasts etc.
2.50 Aintree Rock On Ruby @ 3.75
I always get Nicholls horses wrong and like Hendersons, and Oscar Whiskey does have smart form over this distance, though I was slightly disappointed with his run behind Big Bucks, Rock On Ruby of course won the champion hurdle, didn't think it was the greatest renewal, but he won it fair and square and has good form over this distance as well, there's not much between the front two and 3.75 seems like good value. Having said that Zarkandar will probably go and win it lol
Lingfield 3.05 Taiwar (lay) @ 2.36
Unfortunately one has come out here, so not the value lay he was, might see if his price comes in a bit more, but form tailed off badly at end of last season (know he was up in grade in a couple, but it looked like he didn't improve) and has a bit to prove here.
