Can someone cast their eyes over this camera (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46642&TabID=1&source=1&doy=5m1&ForceUpdate=Y) for me?

Is it any good?

The price seems very good, and I've already got a Sony 3.2 mp camera, which my (now ex) girlfriend broke while she was on holiday.

I can't be bothered to get it fixed when it was her fault, so I need a new camera, and will ask for some money back from her as we bought it together a couple a years ago.

What do people think? I know little about cameras, let alone a digital one, despite doing a AS level in photography, so any advice is greatly welcome. All I need one for is just general snappy pictures, nights out, general palace pictures etc - nothing fancy like RDS or bobmatt's stupidly good and large cameras for me, thanks.:)

Cheers in advance!

No? Anyone? I'm getting it tomorrow, unless anyone says otherwise.

For 175ish, there are a few cameras out there that would be better recommendations.

Have a look at the Kodak Z730, the Olympus MJU600 and the Nikon Coolpix S1 for starters.

How much do you have to spend Webb? I'm pretty sure you can do a lot better than that camera unless money is an object...

Steve's Digicams (http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm) is a great site for reviews and Internet Cameras Direct are a fairly decent place to buy from (although I can't access the site at the moment).

Slimbloke H is right, you can definately do better for 175 quid.

Check www.pixmania.co.uk you can sort the cameras out by price. There are quite a few good cameras there for around 150 quid which would be better than the one you are looking at in the first post.

Well, money is fairly tight, but I suppose I can go a little higher, but then there is a bigger memory card etc on top! And I kind of need a camera for tomorrow, to be honest!

What's wrong with that specific one? It has been reduced from 120ish aswell.....

Oh blimey, hadn't noticed it was 100 quid.

Well, this one seems quite reasonable...

I wouldn't go with the Premier one because its not a big name in photography. I know that might sound pedantic but its about reliability and also, a 5mp camera by Olympus will probably produce better pictures than a 5mp camera by Premier.

Would Jessops do that camera, Rob? I really need to have it tomorrow to take some pictures for coursework. Thanks for your help, mate!

I would think so.

See if they've got this one in stock...120 quid, 5.2mp and a Fujifilm, so reliable.

Excellent. Jessops were excellent the last time I went there, so I'll limp down there tomorrow morning and check them out further. Thanks for your help.

I bought the Fujifilm one in the end, Rob.

Jessops were really helpful, as ever, and recommended the a350 highly. The guy in the shop hadn't heard of the Olympus model, though. Is it an American model, or sold exclusively in other shops, other than Jessops?
