Apparently Moyes signed Kroldrup without going to
see him himself, took the advice of a european scout
working for the club. A £5.1 million bid was lodged
and Udinese the Italian club who Kroldrup was
playing for couldn't believe their luck and
immediately accepted Everton's bid.

Only after the player was signed and all the
neccessary paperwork had been completed, and the
player himself had completed his first training
session with his new team mates did Moyes begin to
smell a rat.

Moyes was apparently totally unimpressed with what
he had seen and it was only then after he made
enquiries with the scout that it dawned on him.
Everton had signed the WRONG player!!!

The player the scout had watched had been Kroldrup's
centre-back partner!

This was why the Everton bid was immediately
successful and they (Udinese)were it has been
reported, totally amazed with the size of the bid.

So, Moyes now had a problem, he had a centre-back he
knew was not good enough for the Premiership, he
also needed to off-load him and get back if possible
the club's £5.1 million.

How was he going to do this without losing face with
the Everton fans. The first thing he did was report
to the press that Kroldrup was injured, he did in
fact have a slight injury but not enough to keep him
out for 3 months ,which is what happened.

Eventually through pressure from local phone-ins,
fan groups and local and national press asking
questions about this £5.1 million invisible man, and
also because of the club's injury list, Weir was
injured etc, he eventually had to play him against
Villa at Villa Park.

It was there that David Moyes worst fears were
realised, Kroldrup had a stinker, was out of his
depth and Moyes knew it.

The problem now was that other managers had now seen
Kroldrup's non-performance so there was no chance of
them getting back their £5.1 million- and he knew
it.

It has been recently reported that Florentina have
put in a bid for £3.6 million, my source tells me
that is in fact bull, they have offered Everton 1
million Euros- which is approximately £700,000.

An agreement has been reached with Florentina to
release to the media that the figure is £3.6
million, mainly, to save face at Everton Football
Club.

So, there you have it, mismanagement on a grand
scale which goes to show how EFC went from being
called the Mersey Millionaires in the sixty's to the
total shambles which the club is today.

Moyes apparently blames Chief Executive Wyness, he
blames the european scout, others within the club
blame Chairman Bill Kenwright.

Lets not laugh too hard...

We have had a few signings like this - especially during our Venables era.

Everton, 9 unbeaten and played in the Champs League this year - I would accept that mistake for a bit of their success.

If the story is true though, it would amaze me. 5.1m pounds and a manager who doesn't check the player out properly - if I was his chairman, I would sack him for that!

Question is who is the player they 'should' have signed?

They didn't see him play though, he was signed after watching videos of his performances.

I think we signed Kaviedes in exactly the same way.

The guy is a regular in the Danish team ( remember them -- they beat us 4-1 ). Played 4 seasons in Udinese playing 30 games in the season that they qualified for the champions league. Yeah he must be so sh1t:rolleyes: I wouldn't mind him for 700 000 insted of any of our defenders, who by the way wouldn't get near the Danish team.

It's definitely true. It's also another reason why Everton wouldn't release any funds for new players in January.

It happens quite frequently. Celtic did the same with the Centre Back Rafael who was bought by John Barnes, Man City did it with Vuoso and Sunderland did it with Milton Nunez time they were in the Premiership. Its quite amazing how much money is wasted when you really think about it.

I'd be surprised if any team would be quite careless enough to sign the wrong player by mistake. Kroldrup is regarded as a pretty decent defender in Italy and played a big part in the Udinese team which finished 4th last season. Maybe they paid over the odds for him, but I reckon he'll do alright if they give him a decent chance.

I believe that Villa signed Savo Milosevic on the basis of a video...

Golf Boy

So he left Udinese whom he played for when they qualified for the champions league. Now Fiorentina ( 4th in serie A ) have him. Why would top teams in Serie A want him if he was cr@p? Last time i looked the Italian league was of quite a high standard. Maybe it's Everton who have the problem

Watched Mr Kroldrup a lot and in my opinion he is a decent player, maybe Everton did not get the star they thought they would but it was by no means the flop of the century, he's an international defender not some unheard of South American.

There may have been excuses for Nunez and Vuoso but John Barnes has no defence for signing a player called Rafael Scheidt and expecting him not to live up to his name:D

Per Kroldrup's parting shot at Everton was that there is no place for 'cultured' defenders in the Premiership! :D

No we didn't. Zohar went on the club's tour of Finland, before he was signed and I believe he scored the winner in one friendly. We had a couple of games to look at him.

My bad. But I remember Coppell saying that he made a mistake with the Zohar signing, and he would never sign a player based on a video again.

Well it wasn't 'solely' based on the video. I seem to remember that old Itzik did get injured on that tour, thus maybe Coppell meant he didn't have long enough to assess him on trial and relied on the video.

Per Kroldrup has criticised the standard of The Premiership after being labelled an expensive flop during his time at Everton.

The Denmark international cost the Merseysiders £5 million in June but was moved on to Fiorentina in January after making only one league appearance for David Moyes's side.

After previously playing for Udinese, Kroldrup is now back in Serie A and looking to rebuild his career.

"I still feel I could have done well in the Premier League," the 26-year-old defender told Ekstra Bladet.

"Technical qualities are much more important in Italy.

"I am used to coaches and fans who prefer that you play yourselves out of trouble and pass to a team-mate."

I remember Liverpool placed a £4 million pound bid for a player called Didier Baptiste (If I remember rightly) based on an 'agent' showing videos of the 'player' training and playing in competetive matches for a team called . .

Wait for it.....

Harchester United (those of you who watch or have watched DreamTeam on sky will know who they are)

Not entirely sure if this was true but at the time, I read that apparantley they only 'realised' just in time when the 'agent' showed them a clip of him in action against Liverpool to which the manager said he didn't remember Baptiste playing against them , and suddenly smelt a rat. :D:D :lux:

Who was Liverpool's manager

Essexeagle
11-02-2006, 08:40 AM
Urban myth.

It was the News of the World who printed a story about Liverpool being interested in Baptiste after a hack overheard someone talking about Dream Team in a bar.

It was then picked up by the Observer and the Times, and then Liverpool's Clubcall.

The club had nothing to do with it.
