Newswire today:

"Crystal Palace chairman, Simon Jordan, today upped his efforts to find a proven goalscorer by making a bid for former Tottenham and England striker, Jimmy Greaves. It is hoped that Greaves, 89, will be signed in time to play against Burnley on Saturday. Mr. Jordan said: "Jimmy may be a bit fat and bald and old, but this proves that the infrastucture at Palace is now in place and we are serious about proving we're the 14th biggest club in South London. Still, actions speak louder than words and we must only look forwards. Consolidation and administration are not words you'll ever hear from my lips -- oops."

I suppose that means we will be after Gilzean now?

I can see the Saints connection coming through. We'll be going for Roger Moore next!

No, let's be fair. Greaves might be too old, fat and bald for the Premiership, but he could do well in Division One. Anyway, ask yourself this - would the Team be weakened by his inclusion?

Let's not forget he has experience of playing in the Italian League and he is bound to put a few hundred thousand on the gate - mainly people who want to watch his lack of match fitness make him suffer and possibly expire!!

I think this is just a stunt aka Goldberg.
Hes never gonna come to us especially now we have alerted the likes of Middlesboro.

Can we really afford his wages of £1 and 6 old pence a week.

Excellent thread for my first post since I went on holiday 3 weeks since ago.

Greaves would greatly benefit from Jordan's decision to ensure that Selhurst bars are serving beer at 10% below local pub prices. He would have to use less of his triple win bonus to get rat-arsed before or after each match.

Live from Glaziers - it's the New Saint & Greavsie Show! "Y'know, it's a funny old game, Matt, but surely nobody would offer £3m for a carthorse like Beattie..."

I can't believe some of you lot! Three months ago we were staring liquidation in the face. The fact that we are even rumoured to be signing players like Greaves and Matthews is a testament to how far the club has come. Some people have very short memories.

PS SJ, if you're reading this, Ferenc "Jellymeat" Puskas is rumoured to be very unhappy and could be available soon. With Alan Smith's new fitness and diet regime, he could surely shed about 350 lbs in the next couple of months and be the playmaker we've sorely needed.

MAN what a great signing he really would be for sure! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/redface.gif)

His fitness levels are by far superior to anyone else out there on the transfer market at the moment.....and as for his rugged good looks....well!....

If we've signed Matthews, who's going to wheel his rotting carcass around the pitch?
