I am having a few friends over for poker tonight. Being married, my wife is preparing the snacks and playing the host, and then silently disappearing like the good little geisha she is.

There might be a woman coming to the poker, though. I hope she remembers to bring the bunny outfit for the top ups.

Me

You should be.

When I was a whipper snapper I used to feel physically ill if I stayed in on a Friday night.

Always prefered them to Saturday nights because you had football to look forward to and that anticipation was always enough to help fight the hang-over.

Saturday nights just led to Sundays and hang overs always seemed harder to shake on those.

I am having a nightmare few weeks, so tonight I decided I would go out, however, cleaner pulled a (child) sicky (which is worse than claiming to be ill herself I think), the other was whinging because one flat "Was really scruffy" - it's your job ffs.
Gas engineer forgot to show at 8am and arrived a 2.30pm instead. Spark shows at 5.30 - just as the sun goes down so no light - coming back tomorrow the goon.
aaaggghhh.

Lovely return couple show up - always take a flat from me, have a couple of lovely children and always bring her niece - went to the car to help with bags etc, asked where their little daughter was, she died. That is sad.

So, all of the above does not matter really. Be grateful for small mercies.

I remember being in your situation - home alone with my boy for five years, then my daughter came along. 'twas a lonely existence when they went to bed, all my mates were married/coupled up, those that weren't were still partying. I don't regret a day of it though.
He said to me when Little Megs went off to uni the year he graduated and he'd made his life in London, "It's your time again mum, you spent 23 years growing up, had me then sis, 23 years watching us grow - go out and have fun"

I'm entering invoices for a VAT return which is due in today - and I've got thousands of them to enter :( That should win you the annual prize, if not the decade's. :)

Was meant to be going to some dreadful party with parents from the kids School but it got canceled which is happy days for me.

Instead its a couple of bottles of Deuchers IPA, followed by a glass of wine and a night in front of the television with some Italian film I got via Lovefilm.

In our family we face the twin issues of a 12 hour working day (me) and two little kids (Mrs), which all add up to the pathetic sight of two relatively young, outgoing people slumped on the sofa watching Friday Night With Jona*cough* erm, Armageddon. On a Friday I just want to crumple up in a heap. At 4-ish when I get out of work I'm buzzing, by 6-ish when I get home I'm a monosyllabic, grumpy, sleepy tw*t.

But where in the past my other half would have been bouncing round wanting to go out and do something, a couple of years and a couple of kids down the line and she's just as bad. Ha-ha. That'll teach her. Even the dog's a right miserable little bastard tonight.

If theres anything in particular you want let me know, otherwise it will be the educated choice of the shopkeeper like last time. He knows his stuff. I seem to remember you saying about rum casked, so was gonna ask for that.
