GOOD NEWS ALL.
Beattie stays at Southampton.

Why is that good news?, every Southampton supporter I know says that he is a quality player.

sometimes I think people forget which division we are in. We will not get premier league quality 24+ yo players while we are near the bottom of div 1. Quality kids like Beattie are good buys because they will get better. Remember Beattie is fighting quality strikers to play for Soton (latvians are sheer class aren't they http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

Such good news that we're not getting a good young talent, who can win the ball in the air!

Me no think so!

We've already proved that although we said earlier that we wouldn't up our bid we did!
Stand by to see us pay over the odds for new players!

Yes but the point is that given our current state, 3x 1 million buys could represent better value and more sucess in this division.

Name me a top quality stirker available for £1 million who will do the business for us. The fact is, if a striker's any good, then the price is going to be high. Not securing Beattie's services is our loss.

Good news - bad news? We'll never know.

It certainly seemed a lot of money for "potential" though.

Ian Moore - around a million,
Adebola - " "
Mark Rivers 800k
Carl Asba - 1.5 million,
Pringle -750 k when fit
or 400k on stop gap measure like Wayne Alison.

Les Ferdinand and Carl Asaba are our other targets i have been told.

We need experienced players who can do the business now, not gamble on fancy dans who can only offer potential.

Tjmill, can i just ask how you seem to know this.
Dave, seems to know most things going on around the club quite well and gets most things right and on another thread he still says that Beattie not joining is unconfirmed and i'm sure if the deal was dead we would of heard of it by now.
I still wouldn't be at all surprised if by the ned of today Beattie was a Palace player.

I've got Saturdays Sun here in front of me & it says that the Beattie deal is off as he failed to agree personal terms.

Well if its in the Sun, it must be true then.

But if he could not agree personal terms, is that the end of the story? A few days ago there was no agreement on the price and then we seem to have upped our offer by nearly a million. Who is to say we won't decide to increase his pay offer as well? I don't have firm views about Beattie one way or the other but it seems we need someone who can win balls in the air, hold the ball up etc.

If Beattie is the once making the decision then he WILL stay. He has stated that he does not want to leave the Saints and wants to concentrate on challenging for his first team place. Like Alun Armstrong he is as snug as a bug in a rug in the Premiership.

If SJ is willing to spend £3M, then Marcus Bent should be the first choice

No much of how i would like Beattie to join us, if he's not interested, then forget it.
I've read stories he'd rather battle for a first team place than have a regular one (money grabber) and if Southampton accepted an offer he would price himself out of the move.
Jordan, if he going to push your limits, then forget it. Offer the £3 million to a club that need the money, Sheffield United, and buy a player with proven quality and a player who would like to come back to the club, Marcus Bent.

Well if we could of picked Beattie up for around 1.5 million then fine. 2 million is a bit step but maybe with us needing a striker so badly we might of had to except that price. But 3 million for a squad player, even from a Premiership team is just to much. We can surely do better with that amount to spend.

I've always disliked Southampton and this is just another reason to do so, why can't they just let a fringe player leave for a reasonable price?

excellent. the same ineffective powder-puff strikeforce against Burnley and Barnsley then.

We can only hope for a bit of magic at last from Forssell or Morrison.

Whatever hapenned to player's agents marketing players? Ok they're not attractive, Mr Hall inparticular, but could provide an answer.

Surely the likes of Eric Hall couldn't miss an opportunity to inform Palace of any players that would be interested in a move to Palace. In recent weeks our image has not been sharpened by the players who have NOT signed rather than those that have. However this could be due to the public airing of speculation (not always from the club) that has made us appear to be trying to sign every man and his sheep dog.

Thank goodness for that, let some other mugs throw over 3 million down the drain for him if they want him that badly.

Just an aside, Eric Monster Hall is Neil Ruddock's agent so doubtless his hooks are now well into Palace.

I spoke to Glenn Cockerill yesterday when he arrived at the ground and he said the Beattie deal was not dead.
Both Beattie and Le Tissier for that matter are both interested in playing for Palace and they are very good friends of Cockerill's and he is hopefull that they will join Palace.

I don't fancy getting Le Tis much he is getting on a bit and we need someone who can be around a few seasons yet so maybe someone a bit younger and has a good reputation already! Yer i think Stockports Ian Moore maybe good he's scored a few this season all though i can't imagine they'd let him go!

The season tickets going back if we get Le T0ssier. Hasnt played a good season for over five years (no doubt Anti will come and tell me its 2.75646463899 years).

The phrase "send him to the knackers yard" seems apt.

I'd like Palace to sign someone without an injury record as long as Peter Shilton's arms. For once.

This may be slightly controversial, but with the coaches and managers (loose description i know) we have had over the past three seasons, I am not so sure that Beattie would have been the player he is today if he had come to Selhurst! Shipperley, Bradbury, etc etc :(
