This may be old news but i will say it anyway...

When a player retires and disappears from the database there is always a player created in his place, with the same nationality (ies) and the same potential. They are always young too.

For example, when Christian Vieri retires there will be a top quality Italian/Australian SC with great finishing and heading and a lot more 20s. He will have a potential of 200 and will be the best player in like season 20.

When Edgar Davids retires there would be a Dutch DMC who is equally as good, and so on.

The trick is to find these players before other clubs do. They often begin on a free or at small sides so if you can find them then you will get them cheap.

I know this way of finding players is a little bit cheeky... but this is what i have been doing:

When a player retires i load up the pre game editor and search for him. I then go back to the game and look for players of the same position and nationality who are under 21. Then go back to the editor and select certain stats that are above 16 or so and put them onto the player search, this should come up with one or two names. It's just a matter of elimination then.

Another example, i am in Season 3 with Spurs/England now and Ginola retired. I found his regen, his name is Cedric Remy and plays for Amiens. The names are different each time.

If you get a team with the regens of:

Kahn
Maldini
Thuram
Cannavaro
Lizarazu
Davids
Zidane
Rivaldo
Ronaldo
Vieri
Figo
Kluivert

then you will be laughing by season 15-18. You will have the best side in Europe and it would have cost you hardly anything, you can then sell these players for fortunes and get more regenerated players as more and more current quality players retire... Shevchenko, Beckham, Gerrard, Raul etc.

Anyway, i am off to bed. Hope thats not too confusing and it may have helped.

Thanks for that Daniel.
I recall that on 99/00 that after 4 or 5 seasons that young versions of recently retired players such as Kevin Miller, Lee Dixon and Gary McAllister suddenly appeared with the same names playing in the lower divisions in their 'original' positions.
Just out of interest would this been 'regen' or just recycling the same names but with different attributes and potential?

Theres an easier way of doing that. At the beginnig of June each year go to the player search, and sort out all the retiring players. Now check all the quality veterans from the Carlton Palmers and heres the neat bit: Go to 'Set Nickname' and call them something like "Regen1" then repeat for all classy pensioners. Then when the new season starts go to 'Find Player' and type in "Regen". The entire regenerated players will come up, at their new clubs, aged 15 years younger. Wehey!

agree with FMF - I had a team full of nicknamed players, who started re-appearing after they retired. The nicknames seem to follow on to the new players.

Well you'd think so... but i got the guy with Les Ferdinands nickname as being a 16yr old Italian defender. It's not the case anymore i'm afraid. Less so in 0102.

Regenerating the players gives the same potential, nationality, position. The high attributes will be the same, but not until this player is at his peak.

I know there's an application you can download that makes it even easier. You can probably get it from the dugout. :clown:

Why would you want to do this though? Arent you losing the realistic part of the game?

I don't see why the game has to regenerate the same players - why not just create a new player with random stats?

Exactly! Completely ruins what I already thought was a crap game anyway.

the game does it because it has to!

There has to be the same amount of players in the game. It does generate new players, with random stats but the potentials, DoBs and Nationalities are the same as retired platers.
