Hi gang. Just though I'd share.

My mate come back on 2 week leave from tour in Afghanistan, we had a big BBQ, watched FA Cup, loads of mates, wags and kids (as far a field as Southend & Tunbridge wells). Went down pub after and all his family turned up. Lovely day.

OK, occasional smut is good...

In a vague effort to change the subject. I recently experimented with bacon (the food of the gods!).

Frying produced nice succulent bacon, unfortunately there were some smeggy bits and there are all the associated health risks with frying. Frying pan fairly easy to clean. 7/10.

Grill - Cooked nicely, but dry. Almost crisped too much and shrunk! While crispy bacon is favoured by some, in the bacon of the beholder though, no crisp for me. Even with kitchen foil laid on grill, still a pita to clean up. 6/10.

George Foreman Grill - I had reservations about trying this, however, very little shrinkage of bacon, cooked fast and succulently, all the smeg produced by cooking ran off. Cons, time taken for grill to heat up and grill needs a quick scrub directly after use or is also a pita to clean, which delays eating by several seconds. 8/10.

There you have it, for best bacon results, the George Foreman grill is your man.

Note: To achieve testable results, all bacon eaten in sandwich format with white crusty hovis bread and HP sauce.

mmmmmm bacon

What a comprehensive and articulate survey xabbaby! The only problem with the George Foreman grill is that it's a bit of a pain to clean.

Totally agree, however, I've found that if you give it a quick scrub straight after cooking (and I mean seconds after you've taken your scoff off!) most of the crap comes off. And the bacon wasn't as bad as, ooh, sausages or burgers for instance ;)

I need a new one anyway, and I heard a rumour that there are ones with detachable, err, hot platey bits for ease of scrubbing. Need to look into that :p

Princess
23-05-2007, 09:12 AM
Now that sounds much better. Now do you butter the bread or just put the ketchup/brown sauce on the naked bread?

xab
23-05-2007, 09:24 AM
Butter, I'm afraid, although bearing healthiness n stuff in mind, I use Olivio coz of the adverts :D

Princess
23-05-2007, 09:34 AM
I'm never sure whether to or not - sometimes alters the flavour of the bacon, try it without next time and report back! :D

Tonight's culinary experiment - Produce a palatable bacon sandwich utilising pickle.

Attempted: Cheese and pickle toasted sandwich, with the addition of bacon.

Result: A cheeky little number, however, the piquancy of the pickle combined with the cheesey aroma make the sandwich taste 'busy' thus precluding full bacon savouring mode.

You need to omit the pickle !! Use chicken instead, slice up the chicken and bacon when cooked, stir in a dollop of BBQ sauce, place on the bread, put cheese on top, next slice of bread, close the lid of the GF (obviously) and cook!

Yummyscrumptious !!!

I've just watched the centenary DVD again :lux: I'd forgotten just how good our history is :p

3 things really stood out for me this time around, first off was Sir Stevie's comment after the Blackburn playoffs about it being the culmination of 5 years of hard work....He bloody wouldn't get that now!

Secondly, was Attilio saying he stayed when we got relegated because he'd fallen in love with the club (and London, but I choose to disregard that bit :o )

And thirdly, and I don't know how I missed this one first time round, was Sir Steve again saying that he phoned Jordan after the Millwall friendly and told him he didn't think their business relationship was going to work :sob:

Wright/Bright interview is good too! Right, off to listen to Glad All Over now :D

Football season isn't even over properly and I miss it :(
