Crystal Palace are still hoping to buy Southampton striker James Beattie despite having a £3 million offer turned down.
Defender Neil Ruddock is the team's top scorer with two goals and manager Alan Smith is desperate to bring in a new front player.
West Ham turned down a loan offer for Paul Kitson today and Southampton have blocked a temporary move for Matthew Le Tissier.
Palace lost their fourth game of the season 1-0 against Burnley on Saturday but Smith is not hopeful of signing anyone before the visit of Barnsley tomorrow night.
He said: "The Beattie deal is not dead, but I am looking elsewhere and working very hard to get someone in."
