Has been told he can join Hill on a full-time basis, surely this is someone who we should be looking at ?? :(

A Dick Head who does not recognize a quality player when he sees one, Butterfield is going through a period of regaining full fitness and his confidence. With our current defence even Garry Neville would have a nightmare.

Apparantly gets to choose between Leeds and Hull in January.

Poor bloke. I'd be tempted to retire!:D

Actually, even though he's known as a thug on the pitch, he's one of the nicest guys you could meet off it. A gentleman. For that reason alone I'd love him back.

do you remember that game where he actually got to wear the England captains armband for a few mins - disgraceful.

Mind you I think we had about 4 / 5 captains that day.

Butterfield has not had more than a couple of decent games since getting injured in preseason in 2004. The only way I can see him recapturing the form he showed himself capable of way back when is at another club.

I do take back my last comment actually. I remember seeing him at a charity do and he does a lot for one charity in paticular. But a thug on the field which is a shame.

We don't need him.

If we've got resource to throw around, we need to be aiming it finding pacy wingers, attacking midfielders and pacy strikers before we start worrying about the right-back position.

Of course we need to strengthen other areas aswell , but if Danny Mills is available he s just the type of player we need. Butts will never be the same player again, after so many injuries. He s lost the little pace he had.

Thought he was knackered with shin splints or something. Either way, no thanks - at this stage of the season stick some kids in if we need to, not some washed up player

He s 28/29 hardly wash up. Kid s like who Butterfield?

No I meant stick the kids in if we need cover. This season is over so a loan signing makes absolutely no sense.

As for washed up, why has he spent most of his time recently out on loan at Hull? If his was at the top of his game he'd be in the City 1st team

Would rather have Lawrence at RB than Mills.

I hope that was meant to be sarcastic. Full backs are near the top of my shopping list, just after strikers.

EDIT - just noticed when Cleon posted this, ie before we got Ifill and Dartford Dave.

Cant see him relocating at this stage in his career, and clearly a player in decline

But, if he has shin splits then is all but washed up. Rob Jones(Liverpool) retired early because of them.

but Kieron dyer didnt. Like any injury, i guess there s degrees of severity. As a permanent signing i think it would make good sense for a couple of seasons IMHO.

If you want to look at shot players, look at who played at right back v Plymouth.

Strange that nobody has mentioned Phil Starkey - good enough to get a pro contract, but never used, even as cover, despite RB being one of our problem positions.

I'd rather we bought through youngsters than buy any more journeymen who will ultimately end up being high earning dross that we can't get off the wage bill.

Looks like he's stuck with Man City till the end of the season now anyway. Expected him to move today, probably to Hull but maybe he's still not fit enough.

Find it hard to be too critical of Mills because I've met him and he's such an insanely nice bloke. On the pitch he's got his critics, but people tend to assume he's a bad influence in the dressing room too and unless he has a total personality transplant I somehow doubt it! He's a werewolf gone wrong - turns into a monster at 3pm on Saturdays rather than at midnight on a full moon.:D

A fit, on form Mills is an excellent RB, and he seems to be completely unwanted at Man City which is a shame.

Yeh if he did come, we should make it a 1 year contract or something. He could go a good job at RB but, like you say, if it didn't work out we dont want to be lumbered with another Macken/Black/Kenneddy etc

I'd argue that we do need him. I'd also argue that after we consider that he costs money to employ, we don't need him.

Dan 05
07-08-2007, 01:08 PM
Been made avaliable for transfer and i reckon he would cost next to nothing. Could be a handy player in the squad as he has got so much experience in the Prem and International. Can also play at centre back so if we can get him for nothing i'm all for it!

Wages would be a big problem, was on a reported £40k a week at City and although he's unlikely to get anything near that again, I still think he's out of our range.

beeltrystig

I think that his experience would be good for us but the wages he'll ask for are ridiculous...don't get him.

TheCharmer

i wouldnt have thought his wage demand s would be that ridiculous Hull were in for him last year. If they re not, i d think he s a very good signing for us.

Very true Matt. Shocking first half, if Palace had had any sense they would have targetted him more in the 2nd period.

He'll get roasted by some of the more likely candidates in the league this season, and his career is already over aged 30.

wasn't great, but had hughes wrapped up mostly down to experience and still had the guile to deal with martin's pace late on. no longer seems to offer anything creatively, but is still a very destructive force
