Can't play video files

I have some .avi video files (I know it's an old format but I get them off a website that converts files from youtube). For a while, they played fine but now, when I tried to open them in media player, it says "Error downloading codec" and plays them as pure sound files. Can anyone help?

try downloading and using vlc media player instead, they should work on that.

Would prefer to have the codec as sometimes I edit them for vidding.

but it might not be a codec problem, it might be media player being an arse.

won't pick them up on Studio 10 either, same problem - no codec.

Download the ubiquitously-named G-Spot Codec tool - it'll tell you if you're missing anything!

Search for DivX Codecs and download and install - should work fine.
