View Full Version : No New Signings

Just wanted to mention a point. On the way to the Sunderland game, SJ was interviewed live on Palace Radio. When asked about transfers, he said that if the club was pushing to be getting promoted then he would look to strengthen to aid that cause, but if coming out of the xmas period we were gonna be fighting down at the bottom, he didn't see the point in wasting money on players of a lower standard to fight that cause. Despite 5 points and no losses from 3 games, we r still 18th and closer to the drop zone then the play-offs. Could well mean no new faces.

I think that is in relation to any "new money" being available for potential new players. If PT can shift some current players off the squad list (and wage bill) and accumulate money that way, he can re-invest it. I think

The current squad is going to be too big and expensive for next year and so unless we can shift a couple of players for reasonable money I can't see anyone much coming in. As well as the interview on Palace Radio there was also a newspaper interview when SJ suggested all he would be getting his wallet out for this transfer window would be a Ferrari - could have been a joke but coupled with the interview on the radio, probably not. Going now or in the summer - Soares, Macanuff Kiraly and possibly Watson. Coming in???? - probably a couple of players no one on here has thought of because the ones we have thought of are all too expensive.

Ideally, he'll shift the whole 22 of them and buy 22 more bad players.

You beat me to it Captain. I was gonna post a very similar item. It really is too close to call and judging by i) our position, ii) what SJ has said and iii) our previous history in January window (i.e zilch ?) I dont believe anyone will be coming in without it being paid for by someone going out.

Despite our unbeaten Christmas, 9 points as ooposed to 5 could have strengthened PT's hand a whole lot more and besides his track record to date on transfers has hardly set the world alight..maybe a win on Monday might just tip the balance ?

It's true that we need to shift out some of the deadwood before we can buy. If we can get rid of Black, Macken, Kiraly etc. then that should allow us to bring in some replacements.

All I know for sure is that if we don't play a decent left midfielder, be it Reich or a new signing, we aren't going to challenge for 6th. So if Reich's injured and out for a good while we MUST, that's MUST buy in that area. If about a year and a half too late we can finally nail this one, we've a chance to have a good run, again, providing Mr Francis, I mean, Mr Taylor can see the value of going for 3 points away from home.

Let's hope they are the right people and Taylor alters his transfer tactics from the summer.

I believe that there was an implication in PT's comments that we would be buying. It was a comment about SJ would be willing to buy if we had a good Christmas/New Year and were looking likely to move up the table. He then followed that up by saying that he thought that the Chairman would be happy with our points return over the festive period.

I think it will be a real shame if we do sell Soares as SW16girl suggests.

I wouldn't be too upset with the others she mentioned being sold on.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Macken. I guess that could effect the wage bill at least.

I don't think Taylor would be stupid enough to sell Soares or Watson despite what some idiots on here may say about them. They have potiental, they are home grown and they should be key players for us long term in the manager's book.

Obviously SJ's biggest worry is paying over the odds for players as other clubs know that in theory we haven't spent the AJ money (at least on players).

As I was having the worst breakfast of my life before the game yesterday I read in the sun that taylor had said we would not be signing anyone because he thought the squad we had was strong enough already. I began to choke..............there was a hair on my bacon.......i am not sure whether the two events were related......

IDIOT calling earth, how long do we have to wait for potential to turn into talent?

As for home grown what does that mean? I have mushrooms growing in my garden but I would rather get mine from M&S.

Should be key players, When will that be then?

Seeing some of the shite we are linked with long may there be no signings.

Baggie mate says Gera wants away - solve our wide right problem ? or would Gabor have told him not to go near Taylor ?

No chance. Gera will go to the Premiership. Coming to us would be a huge step down from his postition at West Brom.

We basically need a keeper. Speroni is ok, and Flinders starting to become stronger...but if we want any kind of grasp of playoff contention we need to get a keeper. It's a shame Turner had to leave, as I thought he was just what we needed.

Or am I smoking the funny stuff thinking that we are going to get anywhere near the playoffs this year ?

'Gera' is NOT a 'Target' for our beloved club.
