wireless connection

Turned my comp on today to find that an unsecure wireless network (netgear) is available on my comp, which obviously is from one of my neighbours. If I clicked connect, would they know I have connected and can they access my computer. I'm sorry if this is a daft question, but I dont know anything about wireless connections.

if they looked at mac address uses wireless they could, however if they've left it unsecure and open its not likely they know how to check.
