View Full Version : Do you listen to music at work?
Currently I've got Beats & Pieces Vol 2 running on the PC whilst I'm doing the accounts which is begining to brighten my day even though Palace lost last night and I have a hangover.
Does music help you work and if so what type?
I've mainly been playing the theme tune to 'man about the house'
most uplifting, honest.......... try it...........

Unsurprisingly at school we're not allowed to listen to music during lessons. They've even banned listening to music in fre periods now. I always listen to music at home when doing homework. Currently it's the Offspring.

im listening to dandy warhols (very, very good, in case your wondering) at the moment. not as horrible to the other people around me as system of a down, which i played this morning.
i almost played amen one day, but when the boss saw the (admittedly) pathetic cover and song titles, i figured by his reaction that it was a bad idea
(its not that good anyway)

We currently have a dedicated PC with 40gb Hard disc containing in excess of 3,000 ripped mp3 tracks played via winamp and a panasonic music sytem with 6 speakers all round the office. Music can be played album by album or as is usual random play the whole hard disc.

Is that like a gramophone?
Sounds like you've got it sorted bobmatt, I'm not so lucky we have punters walking in off the street so I have to keep the volume down and on top of that I share an office with Matov, which means if it's not REO Speedwagon, Toto or Val Doonigan then he sneers at it.

I work in a sports centre and we always have the radio playing at reception and in the coffee lounge - unfortunately the management decided ages ago that the only suitable stations for our "older" clientele were Magic and Heart FM - and seeing as the reception on Magic is poor were reduced to having Heart on all the time - After listening to it every morning for nearly a year I can now make it official that Jono Coleman is a grade A **** and I swear if I hear that godawful Robbie Williams song again (Eternity I think?) I'll lose it completely

We normally have Heart on the radio - having tried out different people's choices that was the "safest" option. When there was only 2 of us in the other day we did change it to XFM.
Today though, in a smaller office, I have an odd selection of CD's to choose from! The No 1 Classical Album, Toni Braxton - The Heat, Tranquility, The best of Enya, Savage Garden - Affirmation and Jazz moods! Can't have anything too loud etc to disturb the other offices!

By myself again today, so I brought in the Travis album "The Invisible Band" that my wife bought me for Christmas. Definitely an album which grows on you.

Intended to take advantage again today. Came in with three of my favourite CDs:
"Tragic Kingdom" by No Doubt
"The Singles Collection" by Spandau Ballet
"The Complete Stone Roses" (no prizes for guessing the artist!)
Again though I'm having a very busy day. I thought the period between Christmas and the New Year was meant to be quiet!

I work better without music or the radio on, so I tend to try and work in the quiet.
Recently I got a free mp3 player and am having all sorts of fun making 15 track playlists to download to it. 15 tracks = about 50 mins, which is Ok for short train or bus journeys. I haven't figured out why mp3's take up twice the space of tracks you rip direct from a CD, yet it supoosed to be an mp3 player?!
My latest epic includes:
Beautiful Doll - JSSW (live cover of Max Bygraves "classic")
Only me - Bransby (Definately my find of the year - a cracking young singer/songwriter check out www.bransbycentral.com for more genius)
I'm a believer - Eddie Murphy (Short reprise from Shrek soundtrack)
He'll have to go - Carter USM (extremely rare cover version)
500 miles - proclaimers (currently trying to learn this one on the guitar)
Daddy Xmas - WTDN (possibly the greatest Xmas song ever)
Fields of Fire - Big Country (for Stu)
If I was - Midge Ure
Cocaine Socialism - Pulp
The Pinhead takes it all - GABBA (a outfit that play ABBA songs in the style of the Ramones )
Stories - Gary Numan
This is how it feels - Clint Boon (An operatic version of the Inspirals biggest hit, works better than you'd think)
Tears don't lie - Mark O (Johnny Matthias meets 90's Dance... well it is Xmas)
Stay - Shakespears Sister (hadn't heard it for a while, still a favourite)
Monster in my Garden - Abdoujaparov (lyrical genius in a simple song)

For those who particularly dig the 60/70's r'n'b thang, may I recommend catchthegroove.com - a digital radio station (no adverts). It will have you exclaiming 'I remember that' or 'top tune' in no time at all..... Only drawback is this overwhelming desire to singalong - which can upset colleagues who don't share the interest.

So its Bay City Rollers and Celtic Football Club songs, great stuff!

I would like to listen to music but the old c*** next to me says it disrupts his sales technique and might put customers off buying things from him!
Good thing is he leaves on Friday 'cos he's an absolute tosser and deserves to be thrown from the 19th floor of my building, so for this Friday we've prepared a "hit mix" compilation to celebrate his short but pointless stay here at emap.
It will include such classics as "I'm a loser...." - Beck, "Flying without Wings" - Westlife and "Glad all over" - Palace Team '90 (because he hates Palace and we're f*ckin' glad he's leaving)
The Charlatans - Wonderland. Best release of 2001 after Gorillaz (or however they're spelt).
2001 - God I'm glorying in nostalgia...
