I always liked to be Ryu or Ken....in the newer versions the Bruce Lee character from Hogn Kong.:p

I was always Ken....sacrificing a bit of speed for power
Alternatively it was always easy to win with Eddie Honda and his one hundred hand mum-slap

When I first played it, I was always Eddie Honda, the fat Sumo get.
But then I learned how to play as any of the original 8 characters in the game (except Zangief)

I'm surprised that Sagat hasn't been mentioned. If you became an expert in his moves, you could beat anyone. Zangief was pants wasn't he ? Then again, if you knew his throws you could ko your opponent really quickly.

Blanka most of the time, sometimes Ryu.
Sagat too but I kind of felt using a boss was cheating. His Tiger Punch was great.
Guile apparently was the character of choice with the professionals but I didnt like him.

toss up between Ken, Guille (sonic boom!) or Chunli. Normally opted for the latter. Play SF 2 Turbo on the Gameboy advance on Monday and was most impressed. Most of the original game attributes still remain and it is as playable as ever. Works well for a handheld

Ah, the greatest coin op of all time, I used to while away the hours in the kebab shop at Blackheath standard playing this, *****il the chinese kid who was really good turned up and challenged)
Personally I used to love Dhalsim (Yoga flame !) and then when you could play Sagat he was a bit tasty as well - always found Vega the hardest to beat. The day I learnt to dragon punch was one I will never forget, a doo ged !

When i first started playing i had read the instruction manual and didn't know anything about fighting games. Dhalsim appeared to be the best character based on the manual, and surely enough, i started my fighting game career with an unbeaten run of about 15 matches with mates (i was 8 years old playing against boys between 6 and 12).
And this was on SNES (or Super Famicom or whatever it was called in the UK), and i hadn't realised that i could use the L and R buttons, so all of my victories were carried out only using the light and medium punch and kick!
As i became more expericnced, i started using Ruy ahead of anyone else, although i play equally well with any of the characters (including Zangief).
If anyone has the DGen or SNES9X emulator, and wants to be humiliated, we can play over the net.

If you think that's annoying, try playing against someone who knows all of Zangief's submissions!

Green, a bit mental, liked curling up into a ball and knocking things over.

I used to play a bit with all of them, Guile was best if you wanted to be all competitive, you could just sit there doing sonic booms and if they jumped over them you did flash kick, no way round it. Dhalsim was funniest though, probably played him most.
I seem to remember Zangief's hard punch did less damage as Chun Li's slap... Never got why he was the worst character by such a long way! I always played him against really bad players to humilate them.
Might be playing a bit of street fighter this weekend actually, a few guys are getting together and just playing a load of snes games, super mario kart (best game ever), street fighter, ISS, bomberman, all the classics. should be fun.

Ah the conversations Ryu and Ken got up to:
Ryu (while doing fireball) Hallo Ken!
Ken (doesn't reply)
Ryu (while doing dragon punch) Are you Ken?
Ken (also does dragon punch) Are you Ken?
Ryu: outburst of annnoyed gibberish as he does that silly kick thing.
No wonder they were always fighting.
