Tonight we had a little tourney at home.

Cards on the table where

Q Q 8 8 4

Player one had: 5 5
Player two had: 6 A
Player three had: 2 J

Which player should have won the hand?

I reckon 2, because A is the high kicker

My mate reckoned it was Player one because he had pair and pair in hand beats pair on table

Can someone knowledgeable answer me?

Player 2 wins due to the Ace 'kicker'.

Player one is unfortunate as his pair of 5s is "cancelled out" by the pairs on the board. Every player's hand is 2 pair Queens and 8s, but player 2's Ace kicker beats player 3's Jack kicker and player 1's 5 kicker. Player 1's pair of 5 do not play because Qs and 8s are better Qs and 5s or 8s and 5s. He has "3 pair" here but you cannot have that in 5 cards!

Hope that clears it up :p

I agree, never heard of cards in the hand being worth more than cards on the table.
