Third Kits in CM?

This has been in CM since CM 3, and I can't understand the purpose, no one ever has a kit which clashes with both of another teams kits, so is there a way to get it to work? Or is it just in the editor for novelty?!

Maybe you could try setting both the home and away kits to the same then I presume it would have to use the third kit.
