My board have been recommending that a certain player (Luke Beckett) would be a useful addition to the squad. Does anyone know whether this means they expect you to sign the player and will lose confidence in you if you don't?

They recommende I buy Christian Vieri when i was Juve, i promptly then won the Italian Cup and League and lost on penalties in the champions league final :D

Though generally it is a good idea, check him out first though

I don't really want to buy him as he won't get in my team and I am worried that the board will expect me to play him once I have bought him.

He looks ok and has scored a lot of goals in Div2 but I am in the Premiership and my current strikers, Xisco and Ade Akinbiyi are scoring lots of goals so I wouldn't play him especially as I have Marcus Bent and Darius Vassell who already can't get in the team.

The board have been recommending him every month for almost 2 years though so there must be something good about him

Luke Becketts good in the game. Which team are you? I'm suprised you aren't playing Bent. In my game he's scoring for England on a regular basis. I haven't had the board come up to me in my game but if they do I think I'll trust there judgement.

I'm Palace. I got Bent on a Bosman from Blackburn when I went up to the Premiership and he is in the England squad. I didn't want to drop my other strikers because they had been playing so well (Xisco got 25 in the Premiership (32 in total) and Akinbiyi got 19 (15 in league)) and I had to give Bent a release clause of £5m so I knew I would lose him if he did well. In the end Bent only started 3 games (and 32 as a sub) scoring 4 goals and has just left for Celtic for £5m.

My board are still recommending Beckett even though he has gone to Coventry now but he has a release clause and as they have gone down I could probably still get him.

Guess it depends. If your'e doing well then the board won't be too perturbed if you don't sign their recommended player. But if you are struggling and still don't try and sign him then they may get the hump.

If only they could recommend me a goalkeeper and some defenders then considering how appaling my defence are. I finished 10th in the Premiership but has the worst defence in the league :(
