anything 250+ I think is defendable if the bowlers fire (bit of a big if) - we should really be looking at 270 plus or so from the position we are in now.

Probably the right time for him to come into the side really. Has had pretty much a full season for Sussex to develop on a decent season last year. It is good Moore has got a side with more 'specialist' batsman and one day players.

Mascarenhas and Wright may prove to be solid additions to the side in the long run. Shah has done well against the Windies and has found his feet against India now as well!

Loye should have gone to the World Cup to exploit the powerplays though as you said, that was obvious at the time.

I think you might be right, with flintoff in the side its a different story, him and panasaer could really keep the run rate down.

How many edges did the Indians get at the end. must have been 6 fours!

I thought England were sloppy in the field today, it was a stupid idea to have panasear at short fine leg when the batsmen was aiming there, the only time it came to him he let it through his legs!

I think collingwood also got his field places a bit wrong with Anderson, he was bowlign good yorkers, I would have put fine leg and a very fine third man on the boudary aswell as having long on and off, make the batsmen hit square off a yorker if they want.

Sorry Stav, but that's a crock of shite. India have bottled it themselves so many times over the years, and in this series (i have been to two matches to see their contrary sides). Hardly an 'english mentality'.

316 was a great score, I would bet that the the number of teams who have posted that and lost are pretty few and far between in the context of the modern game

Eng lost the game in the first 6/7 overs of the India innings IMHO.

A fantastic game of cricket though.

I thought at the time 316 was about 10 runs short. But from the position we were in it was an incredible effort to get that far - the last over will live long in the memory.

HAving watched the last few overs again this morning, having a finer third man and fine leg would have helped as mentioned above.

If we are trying to hit the bottom of middle stump, why have fine leg in the ring ? It doesnt take much to get inside the line and glance it down to that region which would be 4 everytime contact was made off the pacemen.

The fielding in those remaining few overs left something to be desired as well.

Whatever happens in the decider this has been a series that has had many positives for our one day side that have been so f**king useless in the last few years.

Cook, Bell & Shah have all got their maiden tons. Bell's form has been fantastic. Pieterson is class although out of form in this series. Anderson, Broad and Panesar have all bowled more than decent and Bopara, Mascherenhas and Wright have all showed they have some future at this level.

The one real down point for me has been Prior. Too many failures and is his keeping really that good?? I don't think so personally.

If we get Freddie fit and sort out the opener/keeper position then the future could be very bright.:p

I think Prior has done okish, I dont think its easy opening when Zaheer Khan is bowling.

Panasear has been the dissapointment for me, compared the the Indian spinners he's looked distinctly average, I know he hasnt played alot of one day cricket but im not sure the international stage is the best place for him to learn. He doesnt offer anything with his batting or fielding, I think it might be worth giving someone else a go

Freddie makes a huge amount of difference, just his bowling alone, him and a spinner at the other end in the middle overs could really tie the run rate up, plus he's by far the best death bowler we have, if he had been fully fit we would have won that game

Im really looking forward to saturday, I just hope its a good contest, dont know if freddie will be playing but fingers crossed :p

England have improved alot though since the world cup but I agree I dont think either side is fantastic.

India's top order is superb but they have no allrounders so a long tail, plus there fielding and running is laughable at times.

England lack wicket taking bowlers, specially without flintoff, plus the opeing partnership is unreliable ofcourse.

Lets just say win or lose at Lords the team has at least made a step forward.

Can't see the current opening batsman really staying together too long if Luke Wright begins to establish himself in the side. Ideally Cook will continue at the top of the order as I think with more games under his belt he could become a useful ODI batsman that can hold the innings together. Don't have a massive problem with Prior and he is still young enough to improve his keeping and batting at this level.

Bowlers have been a relative success, Broad and Anderson will need backing up from someone.. obviously Flintoff can do this superbly but in his absence we just have the mediocre bowling of Colly! In the long run (i.e. year to 18 months) maybe someone like Rashid, or a slightly more seasoned spinner who can bat, bowl and field can offer us a better ODI spin option if Panesar doesn't work out.. but who knows.

As for the rest, well i have watched a lot more one day cricket than i normally do (normal approach is to turn on for the last ten overs), and whilst i still feel my normal approach gets all the interesting parts in, i now feel i can actually comment on the rest of it.

Of the batting, Bell has been the huge positive ray of sunshine, and KP has been the real let down. The rest was all a bit mixed

Of the bowling, Monty has lots to learn in terms of what pace to bowl when, but that will come with maturity. I'd stick with him for the time being as there are no other decent spinners. Schofield is a potential replacement as offers a lot more with the bat and in the field, and the way Monty is bowling at present, offers no less with the ball.

Fast bowlers - Broad shows promise. Anderson has taken on the additional responsibility well and has beel let down by the field a fair few times.

Tremlett needs to sort his length out in this form of the game and there is no future in international one day cricket for Lewis.

The Hampshire aussie has been fun but is nothing more than a fifth/six bowler and a late order slogger. Think he would be okay in the subcontinent, but would quite fancy playing against him on aussie / sa pitches. Still did his job so fine.

Real let down has been the fielding.

I totally agree 100%, Im fed up of hearing about the guy, I was reading 606 the other day and ive never seen more nonsense, its like in football any goal that Ronadinho scores is so much better than an identical goal you see scored in league 2.

The truth is Tendulkar was selfish, he should have gone off in the last game when he was injured, instead he tried to be the hero, stayed on and gave his wicket away putting his team in trouble.

Very comfortable win in the end. Good to see Pietersen getting back to form. Apart from his running.

KP and Collingwood played brilliantly after a shakey start, well played England, decent series win.

look forward to the world cup next week.

Loved Bell's fake slide and throw fooling Yuvraj! That was a classic.

Dravid's a classy captain, very gracious.

Entertaining series, although I feel both sides only had half a bowling attack (judging by top class standards). Zaheer and Flintoff were the only consistant ones.

I would definately say Anderson was consistant aswell, only when for ones in one match I think.

With Flintoff I think our bowling attack is quite good, if we had a top class spinner it would be very very good.

Without Flintoff we dont really look that dangerous, too many medium pacers.

Essex boy I may be but at last we have another Foster fan.:p His batting alone would not get him in the side but he has vastly improved and his keeping is excellent.

Read averaging 58 in county cricket. Ambrose averaging 47.

What does Foster average and why is it so hard to find these stats?

Prior averaging 22 for Sussex. Shhhshhh.

Foster is only averaging 35 this summer. 48 last year.

In Prior's defense, how many innings? He's still featured in four century partnerships all at Test level.. only Read has more first class partnerships than that with six. It seems pretty clear Moores doesnt rate Read despite his improvements, but I am surprised he hasnt given Ambrose any callups.
