I don't get to many away games but the other day I thought I'd have a look online to see if the Norwich tickets were available as the missus follows them. When I logged on there were no away games available so I phoned the box office who told me you can only buy away tickets through them.

This seems a bit odd to me and the woman on the phone couldn't explain why, does anyone else know?

Not entirely sure what you're asking, but for years now it has been the case that if you want to buy tickets for the Palace areas of a stadium prior to the game, whether Palace are home or away, you buy them through the Palace ticket office.

I tried to buy Southampton tickets online yesterday and couldn't, only home games available.

Seems a bit odd to me as well but hey.

They have sold away tickets online in the past, although the online booking fee is a bit steep - I remember that the day tickets went on sale in January '05 for the last game of that season away at Charlton, they went on sale online first at 0930, and weren't on sale in person at the Box Office till 4.45 the same day (after that days home game)

don't know why away tickets can't be bought online nowadays, but it's not that hard to ring up is it? Just choose a quiet time of the day and you'll usually get through in a few minutes

Strange indeed.
