View Full Version : Scouts. What do they look at??????

I'm currently asking my scouts to look at a number of players as potential signings. One report has been received saying three of them watched a particular forward play for Derby in their last game, and "all agree he would be an excellent signing". So I looked at the details of the match in which they'd watched him. And what did I discover?

He'd been on the bench, come on 6 minutes from the end, and toched the ball just once (a non-key header). Based on that, they're telling me he'd be an excellent signing! I'm wondering if the three scouts actually spent the match in the pub, and just gave me news they'd thought I'd like to hear - taking their salary on false pretences.

So, how much can you trust the reports scouts give you when you ask them to watch players? Any views?

It goes on reputation and current ability of the player i think.

As well as the ability of the scout, the judging player potential/ability values. If they are low, then their levels of judging how good a player really is aren't quite as accurate.

I used CMscout earlier to see who the best players are... and got loads of young players with 190/200 potential and higher. Found them in the game and gave them to my scouts to get the attributes of. Came back with "Not good enough to play for...".

These players were young and new to the game, so they hadn't reached their peak and hadn't gained any reputation yet.

Try scouting someone like.. Beckham, Shevchenko and Vieri and see what they say.

Thanks Daniel. Out of interest, two of the three scouts who watched this player had both values of 20 and 20 for both judging potential and judging ability - but they still said "excellent" after watching him touch the ball just once!

Sorry Daniel. I hadn't noticed your question. It was Andreas Johanasson. No, I haven't got a clue who he is either:)

Has anyone else got any interesting scouting examples?

Jermane Defoe, no need to scout. Just buy. Same with Van der Vaart. I'm talking about CM 01-02...if you're playing CM 00-01 then just get Derek Boateg. Be sure of that! No matter how crap he looks at first. he's amazing and by the age of 24-25 his stats will be too.
