LUA LUA IS LURED AWAY TO NEWCASTLE

Colchester United have accepted a £2.25 million bid from Newcastle United for their striker Lomana Tresor Lua Lua.

The Zaire-born forward, who is in his second season at Layer Road, has made nine appearances for the East Anglian club this season, scoring five goals - three of those a hat-trick in the 4-1 Worthington Cup first-round second-leg win over Queen's Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

The signs were ominous for U's fans after the 19-year-old was left out of Saturday's match against Wrexham.

Colchester chairman Peter Heard said: "We were anxious not to lose Lomana but we had to respect the strong wishes of the player and his family.

"Although he was happy at Colchester, it is perfectly understandable that he would want to play at a Premier club.

"The transfer fee gives us the opportunity to establish financial security for the club and will assist with the cost of the new ground. We wish Lomana every success for the future."

Manager Steve Whitton added: "Although we would have preferred to keep Lomana, I was concerned that the constant speculation about his future was affecting his form.

"Bearing in mind the possible abolition of the transfer system, I felt the time and fee were right and recommended acceptance to the board."

(Well, Another Striker we wont be signing then....)
