The Eagles bid to sign Arsenal youngster Paulo Vernazza looks to have fallen through according to sources at Highbury.
Alan Smith gave Vernazza a secret trial earlier this month and look set for a bid to sign him from The Gunners.
The 20-year-old has however become a regular in The Gunners first team squad over the past couple of weeks and now seems unlikely to leave.
Smith wanted him to link up with his former Gunners team mates Tommy Black, Julian Gray and Stuart Taylor at Selhurst Park.
Smith is however likely to continue to monitor Vernazza's situation at Highbury in case the situation changes and he can then make a move.
It is another set back to Smith as he bids to strengthen his squad for this seasons push for promotion.
