I would expect he was presented with it a while ago for him and his family to consider and now is the day he can legally sign it.

What a great birthday present - being given the chance to sign for your favourite club!
Looking forward to seeing you as a regular in the first team.

I hope not!

If he's 16, we should be getting him on a four year contract.
Even if he goes before he's twenty, that contract would do something to protect the club's return.....

They should tie him down to a 5 year deal but not on mega money

It will be a 2 year youth contract I'd imagine as that is all a 16 year old can sign. The really important time is when he turns 17, and can sign a full contract, or just see out his 1 year left on his youth contract.

I dont think we can afford mega money. If he signs to us it will be cos he 'wants' to play for his club or want to develop his training. If he moves to another it will be cos of money imho. Whatever happens he wont be signing cos of the money.

Agree anything less than 4 years is poor vision by the club imo.

They can't offer him a four year contract. The maximum they can offer is 3 years. That's why Moses, Hills and Scannell were offered 2 and a half year deals.

What do you mean by "poor vision"? And how do you figure this?

Presumably the club would like to die John down for life, but it aint as simple as that!

Well obviously after nathes post the most we can tie him down to is 3 years and unless we go up and qualify for europe then we can't realistickly hope to hold on to this wonder kid if he keeps on filling his potential(sp) but two years reduces the fee we could possibly command for the lad. Just because he loves the club now it doesn't mean in two years time he won't want to move on to further his career.

For what its worth i'd imagine he only wants a 2 year contract on the basis that after promotion and finishing in the uefa cup spots next season he will want a pay rise ;-)

I also have been told that he has signed Theo Walcott's agent as his agent.

Oh Mr Bostock
what will you do
You better not go to Birmingham
And certainly not to Crewe
Hurry back to Selhurst as quickly as you can
And then Mr Bostock you will be a happy man

Taken from the croydonguardian site:

Neil Warnock has dropped the biggest hint yet that wonderkid John Bostock will snub interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona to sign for Crystal Palace.

Bostock turned 16 today which means he is now eligible to sign his first professional contract.

And the Palace manager is quietly confident the talented midfielder will turn his back on Europe's big guns to sign for the Selhurst Park club.

"I am optimistic he will sign for us, said Warnock.

"I have spoken to his parents and have expressed to them that I think the best way for him to move forward is by staying at the club where he will have more first-team chances."

But you know what it is like when you get more than one of the same present........

Let's hope he sends the right ones back - I'm beginning to wonder if there is going to be a triumphant signing on the pitch on Saturday which is why we have heard nothing to date. He surely must have made up his mind what he is going to do.
