Was Lee Hills an unused palace sub at Scunphorpe on Nov 3?
I know he was injured in the warm up. Palace programme etc still has him as sub, but the advertiser and south london press has Jeff Hughes so who is right?

Why does it matter out of interest?

What does it matter? I haven't slept properly for 2 months because of this.

No of course it is not that important, just that I have kept records of our teams subs and unused subs since they started in 1965-66 seson and I want to keep them right.

Hills injured himself during the pre-match warm-up & we asked permission to replace him with a player that had travelled but was not named/included in the original 16.

So while the team sheet/reports may list him as a sub - he wasn't.

Along with one or two other Palace fans, I have the line -ups of every game since we started in the Southern League Division 2 in 1905-06.
A number of players have been named as sub but never played for us.
A bit way out I admit, but most clubs have supporters who keep records.

Hills went off, Craig, replaced him, which left a bench lace spare, Flinders got this bench place.

Just out of interest what kind of players make up this list say in recent times? Would imagine that it'd be mostly youth players and maybe a couple of goalkeepers.

I can confirm that he was injured in the warm up and didn't make the bench.

wrong, lee hills did not make the bench as he got injured in the warm up, he was still announced as being on the bench but actually wasn't, unfortunately i cannot remember who it wa who took his place but he definitely, 110%, was not on the bench.

The only one I can remember who wasn't a 'keeper was Paul Hammond (ironically the name of one of our goalies in the 70s) in 86/87 against Millwall

Hughes is the one said to have taken his place

However the record books and the club will shpw Hills as the unused sub

Sorry! I seem to have started something, thanks for all you replies. For some who are interested players who have been named as sub in league and cup games and have not played since 2000 are: Wilkinson, Sheringham, Fray, Swaibu, Kember R., Smith R, Sheuer, Hateley, Cronin and Howell. Andy Woodman seems to have been sub most wihout getting a game, and Phil Hammond was an unused sub v Millwall home 10 Oct 1987 so the last person has a good memory.
Altogether 22 players have been named as sub but never played since 1965-66

If Craig replaced Hills at Scunthorpe he must be annoyed as he bust his shoulder there colliding with the low concrete wall that surrounded the pitch!

Craig replace Hills in the starting line up. Hughes replaced Hills in the 16 and sat on the bench as he travelled with the club.

What do you mean 'if' they say that

they already do, and there is nowhere that says Hughes was elevated to the bench in place of Hills

Yes, and they are wrong. More than one person on here has been told in person by Neil Warnock that Hills was not on the bench.
