Merde alors, Phil

Asse 0 clermont 2

I'm in nice this weekend and asked someone I know who is un vrai nissart if he'd seen the Nice score - la bataille a Creteil as I wittily dubbed it. His response was, basically, who cares, its the coupe de france. Magic of the cup, my back passage! Nobody seemed to care less. (We won on penalties by the
way)

Yesterday's results would seem to confirm what your nissart mate was saying. 9 Ligue 1 teams have been knocked out already with more to come maybe. I'm really looking forward to Evian v Marseille this evening.

Moi, je pense "Adieu aux reves de gloire.....". we'll see, though. It won't be Lyons priority, though, and who knows what can happen at the Stade du Ray?

Otherwise, PSG were impressive against a very poor Lens side, while Lens slammed Cannes, for whom Jan Kohler (the giant Czech striker) now plays. I thought that one might be a bit closer, as Cannes are third in the National, but evidently not.

Marseille had a shocker last night - Evian 3 (yes, three), Marseille 1. Didier Deschamps, Bernard Tapie, Fabrizio Ravanelli, Didier Drogba, Sammy Nasri, Jean-Pierre Papin, are you watching?....your boys took a hell of a beating....

This one always looked tricky on paper as Evian are going very well in L2. Still, not the ideal preparation for the second half of the season for OM.

The Cup might not have the glamour in France, but it has still cost Guy Lacombe his job at Monaco. He'd been looking wobbly for a couple of months, but the defeat to Chambert (of CFA2 fame) on penalties has persuaded the management team that a change was needed. 17th in le Championnat, ASM don't look in great shape at the moment.....

Ooooh. Liking this story very much

I quite like Pjanic from what I have seen of him. What do you think M kabbott?

I quite like Pjanic from what I have seen of him. What do you think M kabbott?

He's undoubtedly talented but he hasn't done very much this season. He's still very young, and maybe having to step into Juni's boots was a little too much for him. It is quite possible that if he'd been playing regularly better football, le Président Aulas wouldn't have gone for Gourcuff. I've got a feeling Aulas will want to keep hold of him if Gourcuff continues to be jinxed with injuries, especially since Jean II Makoun has gone to Villa.

Would it be hard to get tickets for ASSE v lyon on the 12th feb,as i will be in the auvergne then.Would i have to preorder,or could i get them on the day?

Preorder, I would have thought. This derby is (almost) always a sell-out. Have you tried the ASSE site and then clicking on "billeterie"? If you need any additional help, PM me. I know a couple of people who go to watch ASSE from time to time so I'll ask them how to go about it.

This weekend it's the next round of the Coupe de France with one intriguing tie between Vaulx-en Velin (a Lyon suburb more famous for the riots of 1990 than for its footballing exploits and who are in D6) and Rennes near the top of Ligue 1.

I watched the end of regular time and some of the extra time last night, popping out of the room for 60 seconds and missing the goal, doh! Nice looked extremely knackered, but trying to play a pressing game on Lyon for 120 minutes probably has that effect.

The money will come in handy, but I would have preferred 3 points in Ligue 1 as it is all getting a bit congested down the bottom. Bellion played quite well, didn't he? His goals could be crucial over the next few months.

Back to the bad old days for les gones, although l'homme du match was a certain Penneteau (the Valenciennes keeper) who plays two blinders per season. :(
St Etienne back to winning ways too. There are rumours that PSG are interested in Payet, who's gone off the boil somewhat, who could replace Sessegnon who is off to Sunderland of all places. That one will end in tears. Sessegnon is/was a good player but is moody to put it mildly!

Payet didn't start today,maybe a sign??

I saw that last night. He didn't turn up to training on Friday and wasn't at the game yesterday. The clubs rarely win in these situations. If they force him to stay (he shouldn't be forced, he is contracted to play after all), he won't be bothered to put in the effort, and he'll be put out to graze with the stiffs. If they do sell him to PSG, they'll have about 24 hours to find a suitable replacement.

Just back from le stade du ray, where nice beat sochaux 1-0. The first half was cracking - end to end stuff, a goal from pejnicovic (or something like that) with a looping header over Teddy Richert to put Nice one up. Merited on points, I would have said. There then followed a large dose of handbags to see a sochaux player -couldn't see who - get his marching orders in front of a jeering crowd.

The second half was a bit of a damp squib, really. Nice have struggled in the league this year and found themselves at the start of the day only one point ahead of Lens in the drop zone. With games away at Rennes and then home to PSG ahead, three points tonight was vital, so they shut up shop - largely successfully - and closed the game out. Pretty it wasn't but it was effective even if sochaux did have a goal disallowed for a foil on the nice goalie Ospina.

Shows what the league is like though. I think we are mid table and on for Europe!

Apparently it's not only the refs at SP that are poor. Sochaux are fuming over the ref last night, although I haven't seen any pictures yet. Maybe the local Nissa (?) mafia gave him a handsome "cadeau".
On another tack, L'Equipe are raving this morning over the ex-Lyonnais pairing of Clerc and Mounier down the right-hand side. What did you think Bob?

Sochaux seemed to want to kick everyone on the park yesterday - a pretty dirty team, I thought. Yes, the ref was a bit pedantic, but he booked the sochaux player for not giving the ball back for the third time. He booked Bellion for the same thing. Confidence is obviously low at Nice at the moment and they ran out of gas a bit towards the end, but I thought they deserved the win and should really have scored at least one more.

Clerc and Mounier looked very good down the left. Too good for Nice, that's for sure! Then again, Traoré looked so bad on the right, I think I would have looked good on the left. I didn't really agree with the Mark for Ljuboja either. He worked very hard and on another day would have scored. Bell on drifted in and out of the game and wasnt really in it for me.

Some very negative tactics too, I thought. 1-0 up against 10 men and changing to a 4-5-1 for the last 30mins didn't really get the pulse racing. Then again, I think the three points were vital this week.

Let's hear it for the Sochaux massive on Saturday

er....

all 10 of you.

Mme BB asked me if there was any trouble at the game. I said if you went looking for trouble, you'd have struggled to find any one to fight!

Is it always that bad, kabbott? I know Sochauxs away form is bad, but surely they could do better than that.

I'm not holding my breath for any change in Brittany for les niçois.

Lens really need to get something at PSG if they can, as they look in real danger of slipping away (again).

No, it isn't. One more season after this one. :(
If Lyon don't win the title, he'll go, I'm pretty sure of it, even if they qualify for the Champions' League. The worst thing that could happen for Lyon is that they win the Ligue, and Président Aulas might have to keep him on.

HT at "le chaudron" and it's unbelievably ASSE 1:2 Lyon

St Etienne are showing all the spirit and aggression, and in typical Puel-esque fashion Lyon have come back into this, God knows how, and scored through Gomis, who is naturally playing with a lot of passion, and Lyon got a second from a corner headed on by Cris and then deflected in by any one of two or three players.
This ain't over yet.

PUEL: ‘MY BEST WIN WITH OL’

Lyon boss Claude Puel was understandably well-pleased with the 4-1 derby win over Saint-Etienne while Didier Deschamps happy with striker André-Pierre Gignac’s two-goal haul in OM’s 2-1 win in Sochaux.
AS Saint-Etienne - Olympique Lyonnais : 1 - 4

Claude Puel (Lyon coach): "We came here to win, and we did it in style. This is one of the best wins of my time with Lyon, because we got it here at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. It was a very important match in the race for the title. José Mourinho [whose Real Madrid side Lyon take on in the Champions League Tuesday, February 22] watched us at work against Saint-Etienne, and we’ll go and watch Real Mardid against Espanyol."

Christophe Galtier (Saint-Etienne coach): "It’s a huge disappointment for the players, the city and the club. As huge as our hopes for this match were high. But Lyon were clinical and took their chances; they’re used to this kind of pressure. We, on the other hand, played hastily and were a bit awkward. WE had a good first half but we were caught out on set pieces. We conceded a stupid free kick, which led to a stupid corner, which led to a goal. That showed our lack of experience. It’s tough to accept the result because this is such a special match. But we have 35 points, and there are a lot more matches to play."

IMMENSELY SATISFYING'

http://www.ligue1.com/images/photos/articles/web/fiche//1011_Rennes_Antonetti.jpg

Rennes coach Frédéric Antonetti was a happy man after watching his current team get the better of his former side Nice. Get all Sunday's reactions...

Sunday, 13 February

LOSC Lille Métropole 2-0 Toulouse FC

Rudi Garcia (Lille coach): “The clinching goal was a long time in coming but we got it. That was important. We have always been one of the teams doing the chasing in the past but this year we are the ones being chased. It’s harder being the one having to do the chasing. We just need to worry about ourselves. The pitch is not great. We can’t keep playing on a surface like that. We’re trying to decide whether to leave it and hope it improves or whether to change it. But we are a mature team now. We have become more intelligent, and we are keeping the positive dynamic going.”

Alain Casanova (Toulouse): “We started off well, but we soon got ourselves into trouble by giving the ball away. Lille are looking like champions. They are in terrific form. They have great quality going forward and are very tight at the back. They can go all the way, but there are still an awful lot of games to come. They have to go to Marseille and host Lyon. Rennes, Marseille and Lyon have all won this weekend, but they appear to be coping with the pressure very well.”

>> Match report

Stade Rennais 2-0 OGC Nice

Frédéric Antonetti (Rennes coach) : “It is immensely satisfying. We needed to build on the win over Paris, and we have done so. We started off well after half-time, and scored two lovely goals. I have always said that, in France, there are five teams that have greater room for manoeuvre than us, but the idea has to be that, if one of them slips up, we are there to take advantage. There is still almost a third of the season to go, though. We are in a good position, but I think the big boys are beginning to look the part. Look at Marseille and Lyon on Saturday. Lille have looked good for a long time. As for Paris, we will need to see. But the big sides will not drop many more points in the run in.”

Eric Roy (Nice coach): “Before their first goal we had two great chances, but overall our performance was not good enough. I am not any more worried than I was yesterday. I was already concerned at the start of the season. I am one of seven or eight coaches involved in the relegation battle. Our intention was to try and take the game to the opposition. We feel we have the quality, but we play with too much fear. It’s a shame. We had chances at the end of the first-half. There are teams who come to places like this and nick something, but we just don’t seem to be capable of that.”

>> Match report

Valenciennes FC 3-0 Stade Brestois 29

Philippe Montanier (Valenciennes coach): “We are one of many teams fighting for points in the battle against relegation. It was important to put in a good performance at home. We were worried about two things today: Brest, who are a tough side to play against, and our internationals, who have been playing and involved in long journeys over the last week. It was satisfying to take the three points, and keep a clean sheet. We are still under pressure though. There is a long way to go, but we have been performing well recently and getting results too.”

Alex Dupont (Brest coach): “Valenciennes were better than us in every department. We just weren’t up to it tonight. We started badly, and were second to everything. Losing players to international duty this week worked against us. They only came back on Friday and we were tired. I am not worried, but the match against Monaco now becomes even more important.”

Ligue 1 starting early this weekend with Lyon getting an extra 24 hours to prepare "le big one" against Real Madrid. Lyon are Real's bogey team but will they be against a José Mourinho coached Real next week? Lloris is out with a throat infection and Lisandro is out too, supposedly injured. Maybe Puel has dropped him as a warning for the Real match. It's true he hasn't been playing well since coming back from Argentina with a few extra kilos of "boeuf argentin" around his gut, n'est-ce pas GodstoneEagle? :D

A very good win in the end for Lyon. Total domination for most of the game but leading only by one with a very good goal for Gourcuff, his first for quite a while. They could easily have been hit with a sucker punch, but then Puel took off Gomis, who had had a good game, Briand switched to CF and Pied came on followed by Pjanic for Gourcuff. Pied scored with a good glancing header, then Pjanic scored a neat goal set up by Briand, and then, "la cerise sur le gateau", Briand scored a Rooney-esque scissor-kick to send les Lyonnais home happy with the idea that they might be able to do something against Madrid on Tuesday.

And also very bad news for Abjekt last night with, dare I say it, a very abje*t performance from Bordeaux:

Tigana is probably packing away his things as I write. I think he was out of football for too long. Things change so quickly ...

Salut mes amis

A cracking night for le Gym tonight as they won away for the second time this season. They didn't have much of the ball, but made it count when they did. Maybe the management at the club will appreciate the job that Eric Roy is doing with sweet FA (but I doubt it).

I caught a bi of this in L'Equipe a couple of days ago. For the non-frnech speakers, Aulas has stated that 4 years is too long a contract for a coach at a big club - very subtle as always.

Puel agrees - well, what else could he say? - but goes on to say maybe he will look elsewhere in the summer. Gourcuff then admits it is all a bit unsettling, particularly after his experiences at Bordeaux at the back end of last season with the speculation around Blanc. If your memories are short, they were hopeless.

Foot - L1 - Lyon
Puel pourrait «aller voir ailleurs»

Not the ideal preparation, mon ami lyonnais?

Just got back from 8 days in Chepstow to see Lyon turn on the style against Arles-Avignon (désolé Godders) yesterday afternoon. It looked like Marseille were going to get a lucky point against Lille (that would probably have suited Lyon) only for ex-Lyon striker Frau to crucify Marseille with a last-minute winner. Godders, if you'd come to Gerland, you might have brought the number of travelling Arles Ultras into double figures.

Oh Yes. Big cup fever down on the Cote d'Azur this weekend. Nice for long term goalie, Lionel Letizi who has been the cup goalie all year and retires at the end of the season with the dream of a Cup Final to look forward to.

My taxi driver on Thursday said that Lyon were looking closely at Nice's Colombian goalie Ospina. The feeling seemed to be that Lloris would be off to Man U (spit) at the end of the season. He's OK, but still a bit raw from what I have seen.

Last years late run was just amazing, they didn't choke until right at the end. This season, they seem to get a couple of good results, then wobble.I hope you're right. If arles avignon can get there.anyone can.Though they haven't exactly done a blackpool.

Are most teams that get promoted, favourites to come straight back down?

Not at all. In my opinion, he is the best keeper in France by a mile - much better than his rival for the National Team, Mandanda, who plays at Marseille. Plus he is young - at 24, he will only get better. He started at Nice at 19 and spent three good years at le Gym, before moving onto Lyon where he has really made progress over the last three seasons.

He will cost anyone that wants to buy him a bob or two, though. Lyon don't sell cheap.

kabbott
08-03-2011, 09:15 AM
Lloris is France's best keeper by a mile. If Man Utd (vomit) are interested in him there must be a reason. He is still young (for a keeper) and has scope to improve. Where he still has a lot to learn, and this is why he may have his doubters as far as English football is concerned, is in the air. He's not the biggest of keepers, so he'd need to show who is in charge at set-pieces and hoofball in general. He probably need another year at Lyon.
Thinking back, Bathez never made it in England although, for me, he was one of the top three keepers in the world at that time. And Grégory Coupet was also world-class a few years ago, and I never understood why Arsène Whinger never came in for him.

Damn it! Lille get the three points with a Hazard goal in the 92nd minute. Not looking good for Bordeaux on the other hand. It's true they started going into freefall when Laurent Blanc was still in charge, then they sold Gourcuff and Chamakh without really replacing them, but I relly think Tigana is totally out of touch with football today having been out of the game for only a couple of years.

I'm almost as amazed that they haven't sacked him yet as I am by the fact that you haven't signed Hazard yet!

Lille are on good form at the moment, though. However, the peleton are pretty close behind - have they made their break too soon?

At the other end, the results pretty much went Nice's way and, having seen the goal, Mouloungi scored a cracker (made by Mounier of course). Still some work to do, but here's hoping that we can relax a bit and play some football for the rest of the season. Did I mention my taxi driver said that Mounier was staying for another season, but that Clerc was off to Milan not sure whether AC or Inter)?

Strasbourg look like they are on the way back too. They were in L1 not that long ago and always played nice stuff when they were there.

Real Madrid 3 Lyon 0

:( :sob:

It was more or less OK until Madrid scored their first, then it was one-way traffic in the 2nd half.
Lloris was the only decent Lyon player on the park. Cris has gone past his sell-by date, Lovren was well out of his depth, Cissokho was very naive. Gourcuff was as disappointing as ever, and Kallstrom passed nearly everything to a Real Player. Oh well, Lyon may still go on and win La Ligue 1, but I hope this wil mark the end of Puel at the end of the season.

The interview I read the other week very much gave the impression that Gourcuff has no time for Puel. But whose problem is that? Maybe its why he never made it in Italy and, in the end, Bordeaux were not unhappy to see him go. He has the talent - no doubt about it - but seems to lack a certain....can I say je ne sais quoi?....that seperates the very good players from the great ones.

By the way, Evian seem to have blown up since the break. They look like they might miss out altogether after looking v. good in the first half. And not a bad point fro Clermont against a promotion chasing Le Mans.

My guess tonight? Jimmy Briand wins it with a screamer against his old club - 1-0 Lyon. And Nice grind out a 0-0 at Toulouse!

Nice scored twice in stoppage time at the end of the game to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to Lyon. OL's title hopes took a battering after they appeared to be coasting following first-half goals from Kim Källström and Lisandro Lopez.

BB Bob

OGC Nice 2-2 Olympique Lyonnais

This was a pressure fixture for Claude Puel’s side against their bogey team. Lyon had lost their on their last last two trips to the Stade du Ray, 4-1 in the league last season and 1-0 at the Round of 32 stage of the French Cup this January with ex-Lyon man François Clerc netting an extra-time winner. OL needed to win to keep the gap between themselves and Lille to six points with nine games to play.

Källström on target

Things started well enough for the visitors in what was to turn into a captivating match. After Clerc had fouled Bafetimbi Gomis, a wonderful free-kick from Kim Källström gave Lyon a 22nd minute lead. The Swedish international midfielder got the ball up and over the wall and beyond David Ospina, who moved late and couldn’t get across in time. It was a quality strike.

Anthony Mounier is Nice’s deadball specialist. After a delivery from the ex-Lyon man, defender Nemanja Pejcinovic retrieved and crossed for fellow centre-half Renato Civelli, who headed back across goal. Clerc could not complete the job as he attempted to guide the ball in the corner. That was maybe unsurprising as the French Cup winner was only the French international’s second goal in the professional ranks.

Clerc’s afternoon could have got worse as he took out Jimmy Briand in the box and escaped unpunished. In the final minute of the first half, Eric Mouloungui lost the ball in midfield to Maxime Gonalons. The midfielder fed Lisandro, who had time to pick his spot and curl the ball in beyond Ospina. The Argentinean’s 13th league goal of the season meant Lyon were 2-0 up and seemingly cruising to what would have been their fifth win in their last eight with the other three games drawn.

Penalty save

On the resumption Danijel Ljuboja muscled his way into the area and was brought down by Pape Diakhaté. This time a penalty was awarded for a mistimed challenge on the Serbian. Ljuboja took the spot kick but Hugo Lloris pulled off a fabulous save. Soon after, Lloris was again thrust into the spotlight, called into action to save from Civelli from close range.

Lloris’ Nice counterpart Ospina is said to be a target for several big clubs and the Colombian international showed why as he got down low to save from Briand. By now Ospina knew all about Källström’s ability from free-kicks. He still couldn’t get a hand to the ball, only the post denying the Swede a second of the game.

Classic comeback

In the 89th minute, Nice’s Abdou Traoré won the ball in midfield and burst into the area, before being hacked down by Diakhaté, conceding his second penalty of the game. A second yellow card was brandished for Diakhaté, making red.

Nice changed their penalty taker with Mouloungui taking over from Ljuboja and the Gabonese international succeeded. It turned out to be more than a consolation as in the third minute of stoppage time Les Aiglons equalised, Civelli turning in Pejcinovic’s volley with liberal use of the arm.

Lyon slip to eight points behind Lille, while Nice are three points above third-bottom Monaco after extending their unbeaten run to five.

Fixtures of Sunday 3 April 2011

17:00 OGC Nice 2 - 2 Olympique Lyonnais
17:00 AS Saint-Etienne 1 - 1 Valenciennes FC
21:00 RC Lens Olympique de Marseille

Nice scored twice in stoppage time at the end of the game to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to Lyon. OL's title hopes took a battering after they appeared to be coasting following first-half goals from Kim Källström and Lisandro Lopez.

Putain, c'est pas possible. Puel démission, Puel démission ...

21:00 RC Lens 0 - 1 Olympique de Marseille

It was an important point for Nice, too, who have to keep one eye below them. Monaco won (not surprisingly) against Arles Avignon, but OM's victory last night leaves Lens in trouble (again).

You must be happy with that away point, Bob. Marseille threw away 2 vital points with a poor display against Toulouse.
There's a big one on tonight with both teams having a lot to play for with Lens urgently needing points to get out of the relegation places and Lyon who may or may not still be thinking they can win La Ligue. Plenty of behind-the-scenes rumblings after Lyon threw away victory against Nice. The Lyon fans may well get on the players' backs early on if things don't go their way. Lloris will no doubt be cheered after his outburst, it endeared him even more to the fans. The fans might not be as nice with Cissokho, Diakhate, Cris, Gourcuff and maybe others.

I saw that clip last week - absolute classic! I loved the way that Lloris was very sporting to the Nice players and absolutely laid into his teammates - especially in the changing rooms.

Aulas is feeling the pressure too, I think. The share price is going south and champions league football is not a given. You could do us all a favour and get three points against a struggling Lens tonight. But in any event, I can't see Puel there next season.

Maybe he could head down to Monaco and finish the job that Lacombe started?

Enjoy the match - "Allez les gones!" (and Puel demission aussi, bien sur)

Balls to Bordeaux this season. That's about my only entry in this thread :D

Just read an interesting article by "our own ex" Cédric Carrasso who, like many, can't wait for the season to finish. He is one of the very few Bordeaux players to have had a decent season. He doesn't really put the blame on anyone in particular. There are of course many reasons:

1) Losing Chamakh and Gourcuff, although they haven't done much at Arsenal or Lyon.
2) The more experienced players not being experienced enough!
3) The younger players not stepping up
4) Tigana
5) The team not pulling in the same direction with the pro-Tigana clan and the (ex-right hand man) pro -Michel Pavon clan
6) The club President not sorting things out

Basically everything really.

Lyon aren't doing much better although they may scrape another 3rd place which at least would get them into the qualifying stages of the Champions' League. Hugo Lloris may however be off. Carrasso did say he would be staying at Bordeaux, but if Lloris were to leave, I could see Carrasso at Lyon.

If you look further afield, things aren't any better for Bayern Munich or Juventus.

Yeah, it all adds up to a bit of a crap season. It's a shame really, they played some nice stuff in the Champions League under Blanc and I felt they could definitely have pressed on and grown as a club.

He left at the right time really though, he'd had some great success at the club and had built a pretty good team but it would have been hard to keep the level up if he'd stayed and when he did go, it all went to pot really.

He grabbed the microphone and started singing," Marseille have come to Paris to f*ck (literally s*d*mise) Paris Saint Germain!" In the light of recent "aggro" between PSG and Marseille (teams and fans), this wasn't the most intelligent thing to do. But then he's a professional footballer, so what do you expect?
He will probably get a 3-match suspension and a fine similar to what Rooney got the other week.

It's a lovely little stadium - the capacity is only about 18000 - but starting to show its age. The setting on a spring evening, though, is lovely and it is a 5 minute tram ride/25 minute walk back downhill into town again after.

There are plans for a grand new stadium out by the airport which will be one of the grounds for the French Euro tournament (2016?). It looks nice, but I rather like the slightly grotty, down at heel Stade du Ray. It's rather like Nice herself in many ways. I always think it is to the French League what Selhurst is to the English League - a throwback to an earlier time to remind people how things used to be.

The club is atrociously run. Stellardo has just had an offer from a bunch of Qataris (apparently ) and is very keen to sell. But like all good niçois only at the right price (presumably in an envelope). The average career expectancy of the managers is about 18 months and they all, eventually, get fed up with no money, no new stadium and no decent players. It is mostly free transfers, career resurrections and bright youngsters, really. So something has to change. Whether an all-singing, all-dancing stadium will get more people watching OGCN is a different matter. They do seem to have Estrosi (the mayor of Nice and big mate of Sarkozy) onside and he is very keen to get the stadium built.

I feel the same about Palace, I guess. I love Selhurst and have been going there for more than 40 years now ( ). I understand that the club has to move, has to be in a modern stadium with multiple uses etc. etc., but it doesn't mean that I have to like it. And the way it has been this season - raucous, passionate and, yes, hostile - has been a pleasure to see. Can you get that atmosphere in an identikit lego stadium? I'm not convinced.

Nice have a catch up game tonight. A nice easy one, away at Marseille.

Here is the team news.

Gardiens : Letizi, Ospina
Défenseurs : Civelli, Clerc, Coulibaly, Malaga, M’Bow, Pejcinovic
Milieux : Ben Saada, Hellebuyck, Palun, Sablé, Traoré
Attaquants : Bamogo, Gonçalves, Ljuboja, Mouloungui, Quansah

Blessés : Bellion, Cantareil, Digard, Faé, Gace, Mabiala, Mounier, Paisley
Suspendu : Diakité

Oh dear. That is a lot of players out and, without Mounier down the left, Diakité at RB, Digard at DM and Bellion up front (although, tbh, he hasn't set the world on fire since coming back on loan from Bordeaux), it is very difficult to see this ending well for les aiglons this evening

Plenty of money behind the team which is very professionally run. Whether that will be enough is another story. Recent history (Grenoble and Arles-Avignon) would suggest not. Going back further in time, if you look at Auxerre, they've done very well for what was a very small club. They're flirting with relegation this season though. I hope they stay up.

Oh dear. That is a lot of players out and, without Mounier down the left, Diakité at RB, Digard at DM and Bellion up front (although, tbh, he hasn't set the world on fire since coming back on loan from Bordeaux), it is very difficult to see this ending well for les aiglons this evening

They'd better do something! :D
Lyon have got a catch-up match against losing Coupe de la Ligue finalists Montpellier. Some people still believe they can sneak the Ligue title. They've still got to play Marseille at home and I think there is still a Marseille-Lille to be played, so anything is possible especially as Lille have been faltering in the last couple of weeks.
So tonight I'll be zapping between the Lyon game and the Nice match for the apéritif followed by the main course of Real Madrid v Barcelona.

Vive les vacances!

3-1 OM. Ayew, Ayew and Ayew with Marseille goals.

FT

4:2 to Marseille. Ayew got the 4th to complete a hat-trick. His brother Jordan got the third. Nice missed a penalty at 3:1 in the closing stages. Match complètement fou. (The Ayew brothers are Abide Pélé's sons!)

Lyon 3:2 Montpellier

Puel takes off Gomis in the final minutes replaced by Gourcuff. Everyone's going WTF Puel's lost the plot this time, and then Gourcuff scores the winner in the 90th. Montpellier attack and Camera misses an open goal in the 93rd with almost the last kick of the match. WTF! I'm not sure if I can take Real Barca now.
Lyon v Marseille could still be massive in a few weeks. :hi: :lux:

It's awful, isn't it? You would have thought that someone, somewhere would show the highlights at least. If you have got Sky, you do get Foot! (avec un point d'exclamation) on TV5 Monde on a Monday evening, but you never get a full match.

Mate it's a joke. I used to love Spanish football but take more of an interest in German football these days.

I think they show like 1 German game a week, 0 French, but on ESPN there's usually 3 or 4 Serie A games (rubbish league now) and about 4+ Spanish games. Worst thing that happened last season (coming from an Inter fan) was Inter winning the UCL meaning Italy still gets 4 UCL spots and Germany only 3.

I can tell you the two Ligue 1 matches on last night were much more entertaining than that CL parody of a football match (apart from Messi's flash of brilliance at the end).

20:00 Châteauroux 3 - 1 Clermont Foot

The three Châteauroux goals were scored by Bryan Bergougnoux, on loan from US Lecce! He is now 28! He first burst onto the scene with some good performances coming on as a sub for Lyon and also good performances for the French U-21s. He was destined for a great career but couldn't get into the Lyon side on a regular basis. The Lyon side at the time was pretty good. He was then transferred to Toulouse where he didn't do much, before heading off to the Italian Serie B and US Lecce. What a waste!

One of the bands I do press for come from Lille so when they were over on Thursday I chatted to their manager about Lille and what a great season they're having. He agreed but then told me that he supports Lens, "just because".

I know they're only 45 mins away or whatever, but that's a bit weird.

I then bemoaned Bordeaux's season and that was that. Other than me telling him to support Palace because we're awesome, obviously.

Lens are everyone's favourite other club. They've got very loyal fans, it is said.
Their Président Gervais Martel has made a few poor backroom decisions this season which certainly hasn't helped them.

Not least at the Stade du Ray. Caen are in the third relegation place and 3 points behind Nice. Three point today goes a long way to making Nice safe. A loss and it could be another brown trouser end to the season in a Palace stylee.

Toulouse are well out of form at the moment, though, so you would hope that Lyon would get all three today.
