Newcastle have made a bid...believed to be around £1m for Lua Lua...word on the grapevine is that it will be turned down.
Colchester have said that a few other clubs have made an enquiry about him...is it too much to hope that one of them is Palace.
He could come to us as people seem to think he will want first team footie wherever he goes ala Matt Jansen...so it must be worth a £1.5m go..surely???

we need a proven goalscorer at this level so I would not go for lua lua.

Nor was Matt Jansen when we signed him. . . . . . . . .

When we played them in the League Cup he stood out and he was only about 17 then.
We could do a lot worse than offer £2 million.
Laugh if you want but he would be a great asset.

We don't stand a hope in hell of signing Lua Lua. Reports state that 6 Prem teams have enquired about his services and I'm sure that atleast one of them will offer him at least a place on the bench with guaranteed sub in the 2nd half. It is too much to hope that he will be another Matty Jansen (there is only one).

I couldn't agree more with that last comment. Anyone who thinks we can compete with the likes of Newcastle and West Ham for the services of Mr Lua Lua is living in dreamland.

He was class against us last year when we played them - and had me scrambling to find out who he was (which wasn't easy since they didn;t print enough programmes away and didn't even have them before kick off !)
Would love to see us sign him - but the fact of the matter is - enough premier league clubs have already watched him and Newcastle (with Wadsworth as coach) are rumoured to be preparing a bid this week.
Would be nice if we "tested" them though with a 1.5 million offer this week all the same.

it was a great shame we weren't in a position to be able to buy him last year - before everyone else seemed to jump on the bandwagon. certainly seems worth a bid though.

Not only do I think he looks a class player, his enthusiasm would be infectious. If it's who I think he is he's a bit of a character. AS/SJ, make a bid, what have you got to lose? (Apart from money if they accept and he fails!)

Wasn't it so long ago that the Newcastle board stated that they would have to sell some players before new signing were allowed.
If that's that case, would there be one or two players who would jump at a chance of playing first team football.

they did get rid of both ferguson, and ketsbaia (another player linked with palace many moons ago) so they would have some money to buy the back-spinning hawaiian.
but £2.2 million ?? come on, your having a laugh !!!
for that sort of money, you could have shipps AND brucie..... still better value in my book

I assume that those who still have their Shipperly/Dyer fixations did not watch Lua Lua as a 17-year-old a year ago single handedly give our defence more of a torrid time than any first division striker that season...
I have also had the priviledge to watch him a few times since then and he has always looked class...my friend reports on Colchester Utd and said that home fans often give him a standing ovation when they play away...now if you all think that shipps and dyer would have been better value then...I would hate to see you lot in charge of the team.
Anyway...its all academic, cos hes gone now...just lose the fixation with ex players for christs sake
