That even with a minor traffic accident like the one I had the other day when a woman ran into the side of my van, the ambulance chasers are on to it.

Three times I have been called asking if I have any side effects and can they ring me back in a few days just to make sure (nudge wink easy money if you want it)

I've never been dishonest and I wont start now, but no wonder there is so much silly litigation going on these days :grrr:

Where would they have got your phone number from?

I can only assume that the insurance companies and the claims people work together for commission.

This minor accident has opened my eyes to a few things actually. The way the claims dept. only needed the other driver's registration number to ascertain that she was insured, with whom, what type of car, years driving etc. etc. and they had a direct telephone link with the DVLA when we had a three way conversation about my license and all the details attached to that.

No secrets anymore.

Although it continues to surprise me that insurance companies don't actually check with DVLA about a driver's history before insuring him/her : that would actually make sense.

He didn't really invent it - his friends daughter used to call him her dad's 'Fwend' and sometimes 'Fwendy-wendy', so actually his friends daughter invented it.

You can get them converted onto DVD at a lot of places and it isn't expensive really.

Or you can try and do it yourself, assuming you understand all this jargon:

I've found a couple of websites that do it, but they all say that commercially produced videos can't be done (something to do with Macrovision copy protection). Chances are the Palace ones don't have this, but who knows.

Thing is, I need to get a new DVD player anyway, as ours gave up the ghost several weeks ago. It's just a question of whether to spend £50 on a basic player, or £170 on a combined VHS / DVD recorder, and then spend the time converting all the videos too

And why fly easyjet all that way?

I mentioned the train to her but it didn't go down too well because 2 of her friends are being picked up by their mum (they are sisters).

She was willing to pay that bit more and fly BA, but the other 3 wouldn't pay it.

I've told her I'm not leaving here until 3.00 pm and her plane is supposed to arrive at about 4.00 pm, so I doubt she'll be waiting that long, unless I get held up on the M25 of course, which I probably will.

That's largely what I thought. Wouldn't have been so bad if, rather than coming into our room twice to say she couldn't sleep (at which we sent her straight back to bed), followed by a third time to say she felt a bit sick (just before she threw up), she had told us the first time that she felt sick - we could have then provided a bucket rather than having to scrub the carpet with disinfectant

Ah, the joys of parenthood.

A couple of years ago, Freya had a bad sickness bug (along with her mum) so i had the pleasure of sick bucket duties all night. She was being sick every 15 minutes or so, and i managed to do the whole night without incident until the last bucket empty trip where i managed to knock the thing over the floor.:(

I think you've been misinformed, I don't think Fifa give a reason for this rule.

I think it goes back to when Robbie Fowler had a t-shirt under his shirt showing support to striking dockers or something like that, but there's no definate reason.

Mr Statto
24-11-2010, 12:23 PM
Isn't it something to do with inciting the fans? Though I do remember hearing something about the sponsorship thing too - weren't one of the MLS teams sponsored by Burger King, and they had the logo on the inside of the shirt too so that it was seen when they put it over their heads

No - it's because the team sponsors pay for their logo to always be on view while the game is in progress.

The term "blowing smoke up your ass" comes from a device in the last 1800s where a tube was placed up ones rectum. Tobacco smoke was then pumped up the tube into the rectum. This was used to "warm" the body from the inside and was used to assist downing victims.

It was, but they've decided to close at 1 - what was the point in opening if they can't stay there all day? It's no worse now than it was this morning, and I don't really fancy walking in again (and I can guarantee Hannah won't fancy walking home) so I'll have to run the school run gauntlet in the car.

Been to town though, so I know it's possible, it's just a question of where to park - I really don't fancy trying to negotiate the bollards at the entrance to the car park on Ifield Drive, as there's only 8 inches of clearance and it's up quite a slope.

I learned yesterday that not cleaning out the filter for several months on a fish tank is not a good idea as it makes for an unpleasant evening cleaning the tank and said filter and attempting to separate gravel from copious quantities of fish poo and uneaten food.

A linked learning point is the need to consider very carefully before buying 7 year old new fish when (based on previous goldfish) interest will only amount to occasional over feeding and no one other than self is ever going to clean tank, filter etc.

2nd linked learning point Goldfish can live for over 10 years

Goldfish are really messy fish - they eat a lot and shit a lot! We managed to kill ours by overfeeding them and not adding enough bacteria to the water - once we got the water sorted we picked up a couple of paradise fish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise_fish) which are a piece of piss to look after, and while I do still have to clean the tank & do a water change every couple of weeks it's a lot easier than it used to be with goldfish

Not really something I learnt, but something I found. I was clearing out some stuff and found this poem I wrote about my grandad. I obviously missed my vocation in life as a Poet :)

"My grandad was the best there was
He was bald and he was little;
When mum and dad were mean to me
He'd always make me giggle

He showed me tricks and magic fun
He could make things just appear;
Where did that sixpence come from
He found behind my ear?

When I was seven he took me out
And made me make a promise
To carry on his lifelong love
For a team called Crystal Palace

My grandad was the best there was
A tear runs from my eye
Because he went away one day
And didn't say goodbye.

Today I learnt that Sainsbury in Selsdon seriously needs a one-way system round the aisles in their shop and nobody should be able to linger at any of the items for more than 3 seconds.

3 seconds then move on, please :hmph:
