I've just learnt that young girls will no longer get cheaper car insurance than young boys, even though statistics prove that young boys are more likely to be involved in a major accident than young girls.
Completely ridiculous.

Stop all young chaps (<24) driving at night and you could halve road deaths.

But take all young ladies off instead and it would barely make a difference.

For once, the term political correctness gone mad actually has a meaning.

All of this except I would state for anyone under 24 no driving at night until they had held a full licence for a year.

This is going to sound utterly stupid but hey. I've learnt how tall I am. It was just a kind of throwaway after work 'let's measure our height' thing when we found a tape-measure under a desk but it's totally floored me.

I'm short. My parents said I was short - I'm the runt of the litter. Everyone in my family's taller than I am, I never bothered to find out exactly how tall I was. I'd guessed, for years and years, about 5ft 7. Then I realised that for some reason a lot of people at work who looked quite tall were a bit shorter than me, and I'm about 5ft 9. There was this guy at work who said he was 6ft 2 and I thought he was having an absolute laugh because I'm probably about 5ft 10 and he's barely any taller than me. Maybe I'm 5ft 11 at a stretch.

Nah, the tape measure says I'm 6ft 1 and a half. So there we go.

Seriously, what the f*ck? How can I have lived my life for this many years convinced that I was was 6 inches shorter than I actually am? I have eyes, I must have realised I couldn't possibly be that size? It's actually quite scared me. I must be truly, truly dumb.

1. The number one on the day I was born is horrendous.
2. I hate having a cough/cold
3. Other people hate it even more when I accidentally cough in their face and project mucus onto the end of their nose. for some reason.
4. My car needs its tire pressures sorting because it's turning into a hovercraft.
5. Seeing a colleague fart and then his face when he realised he'd followed through is going to be one of the most outstandingly insanely superb moments of my life I'm going to treasure forever. His cowboy walk as he shuffled to the toilet the icing on the cake.
6. Volunteering yourself for something because you feel sorry for having to delegate the dirty jobs all the time isn't usually a good idea.
7. I can sound vaguely intelligent in the right mood.
8. And incomprehensibly mumblingly shite in the wrong mood.

I never really noticed that last time I went.

Positive discrimination gawn mad.

I learnt today I have two fantastic neighbours.

Having lost my house keys and about to call a locksmith my two neighbours then proceeded to spend over two and half hours , and while darkness began to fall , before finally opening the door and in the process replacing the lock and refusing to take any money for their at times frustrated efforts (or the new lock), while one ensured I had cigarettes as I had run out and also gave me a couple of beers while they laboured away. It was the first time I had met one of the neighbours as well.

Pretty interesting for me if it is true......i recieved a short semi-autobiography and history of the Leicestershire railways from a relative of mine.

Near the end of the book it mentions a member of my family marrying into the famous Stephenson family who built up the railways and the famous train engine Rocket.

The member of my family who entered the Stephensons orbit helped with putting up the High-Level bridge in Newcastle, next generation a son of our family name was given the same name to celebrate marrying into the Stephensons and he became a bridge inspector.......at the end of the paragraph is mention of another present member of our family who was given the exact same name as the relative in the middle 1800's..........me.

According to wikipedia Hugh Fraser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Fraser_%28actor%29) - who was 'Captain Hastings' in 'Poirot', I say - was in a folk band that did the original music for Rainbow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_%28TV_series%29). They were supplanted by Rod, Jane and Freddy (sexcases I say) but the original theme remained.

The muslim woman in my local shop told me this when I ventured the question ''how do you know what direction to pray when you are about and about and have no compass' . She told me then about the direction of the satellite dish. I thought she meant the actual direction it was pointing in, but maybe I misunderstood.

The other thing I learnt was that not only do they read from right to left, which I already knew, but they read the book from what we would call the back. She explained it was because they use the right hand for all good things..she then went quiet so I added ... and the left is for more personal things..she smiled and seemed releived I had let her off the hook coming up with an explanation.
