But because the Euro is so different from the World Cup..what with just being 31 matches (instead of the WC that had 64)..then I mean in the final round..we've got 8 players betting on 3 matches..it's not going to be good anyway you look at it.
In reality the format stinks a bit it..but I can see how we can do it differently??

One thing we may need to clarify is if you are allowed doubles on the two semi finals or just singles on one of the semis

I think it should be knockout one on one from the quarters onwards to mirror the actual competition, which I think is what we aim to do.

Quarter finals = 4 one on one matches, 10 bets each
Semi finals = 2 one on one matches, 10 bets each
Final = 1 one on one match, 10 bets

Maybe for the final (and semis?) you could have certain markets which you have to bet on, outcome, score, Man of the Match etc

Sure we can find a good way to finish it

Just checked my betting site of choice and Romania are now 2.12 (11/10), the Netherlands at 3.4 (12/5) and the draw at 4.2 (16/5).

That's got to be good value on the Dutch, even if they do 'rest their star players'.

Okay so the format idea..
As always a quick vote..decided by Monday..
What we want!?

Option A
Follow the schedule set at the start;
Group stages (x participants): 07-18.June – 20 bets (15+5) – 24 games to bet on.
2. Stage (16): 19-22.June - 8 bets – 4 games
3. Stage (8): 25-31.July – 5 bets – 3 games (combining the semis and final..because just betting on one game would be a bit difficult to handle. Will mean a 4 man final match).

(as I understand it..)
8 people (head to head) - 4.matches (quarter finals) 8 bets each.

Then from the semis we do something completely different.
4 people – 2 matches (the semi-finals)
Here people put up what they think will happen;

Full time result
Half time result
Bookings over / under
Total goals
Over under 2.5
Corners over / under
Man of the Match
First goalscorer
Anytime Goalscorer
Correct score
.. and when everyone has sent in their bets it get’s public..

The best one in each semi goes through to the final..same procedure there..
I think that’s what we ended up with on page 16? Or?

Stigma has become lazy on his old days...:cool: In the past like for the World Cup..I would use like 1 hour+ pr day..keeping it up-to-date. But now I just use 10+ minutes pr day..

The reason I picked B has more to do with wanting to maintain the same format as the actual tournament. So, our tourney has knockouts when Euro 2008 has knockouts. Since I was bumped in the group stages during the last WC contest, what was the format then?

Knockouts would still take place but you should be able to do different bets. If a semi ended up as Holland vs Romania, then there is a chance that most of the bets may end up the same anyway.

The Semis have two matches which means 5 bets on each or you could use 10 on one. The final has other bets as well as the ones listed. There is first/anytime/last goalscorer. goal time, amount of goals, corners, penalty?, shirt number goals, etc etc.

There are different bets to the ones listed which means that there would be limited bets chosen for the finalists to bet on.

How about if the people in the final get to pick their bets, but still send a PM to Stig with their picks. That way, people could still make the same picks in good conscious. I don't know, I'd just hate to see somebody throw up 10 picks for the final (including Spain over Poland and over 2.5 goals) all at once and the other person doesn't get to bet on what they want.

No, option A was that there was 8 teams in the QFs and 4 teams that were in a group betting on the semifinals and finals.

.. and when everyone has sent in their bets it get’s public..

The best one in each semi goes through to the final..same procedure there..

After this first round is over, it should be straight knock-out, just as in the real comp.

Since you can't necessarily bet on your own team any more, you should be able to bet on all of the quarter finals, each of the semi-finals, and then the final, assuming you get there.

If there's a concern that the person posting bets first may restrict what his opponent can do, then I like your idea of PM'ing the bets to Stig rather than posting them up. There's no way each player would do the exact same bets if we do it like that, trust me.

I think the idea is that all remaining rounds are 1 on 1 and that the "hidden" bets only come in at the semi-final and final stage because there are so few options at that point that it would be difficult to pick different bets if one competitor has already posted.

ha! You're right I do like a good conspiracy theory and the dutch were guilty of it against Belarus when they didn't want to be drawn in the group of death (only to be scuppered by the Germans not wanting to be either so failing to beat Wales)

However I think 3.2 is just too big about Holland

- The whole of Europe is watching, they like to be everyone's friend and might want to avoid the publicity
- Do they really fear Italy and France? They beat them both comfortably
- Letting Romania through would give Spain an 'easy' 1/4 final

At the end of the day they love open football and I just can't see them being told to go out and lose. I am not sure they'll be overly positive but they may well use it as a chance to showboat.

Romania are massively underpriced, I'll be backing Holland, draw no bet
