I'm not sure what the worst one was in terms of the margin, but there are a few candidates for the worst defeat in terms of how upsetting, annoying, disappointing they were:

0-1 in the 1990 FA Cup Final Replay
0-2 in the 1995 FA Cup Semi Final Replay
0-2 in the league at Old Trafford in 1990

However instead of these disappointments I prefer to remember these famous victories:

5-0 at Selhurst Park (I was too young to be there, but still enjoy watching the video!)

2-1 at Old Trafford in 1989

3-0 at Selhurst Park in 1991

The only really bad defeats were the ones in the cup. They hurt. We haven’t beaten them since they became a glory hunter club but to tell you the truth they now have so much money I couldn’t care less. It’s no longer a level playing field. We always out sing them which gives me more satisfaction. I think our heaviest defeat is 4-0.

I remember a 5-3 home defeat against them in 70-71,when Phil Hoadley and John Jackson were having a nightmare.I've got highlights of this game on video,it was one of the classic Palace matches from that era.

I witnessed the 5-2 defeat at Old Trafford in the 2004/5 season.

I think the worst defeat though was a 4-0 loss at Old Trafford in 1972.

Our highest scoring defeat was in Manchester - but not to United.

In February 1926, Palace, who had been relegated the previous season into Division Three (South), travelled to Maine Road to take on Man City in the FA Cup 3rd Round.

Palace had caused a sensation in the previous round, defeating Chelsea (then in Division Two) 2-1 at the brand new (opened in 1924!) Selhurst Park in front of a then record 41,000 crowd.

In the following round a Maine Road crowd of 51,360 saw City storm into a 7-0 half time lead - but true to the rollercoaster spirit that has followed Palace since 1905 - the Glaziers actually pegged City back to 8-4, before the light blues added a further three in the closing stages.

11-4 - a seven goal margin of defeat (Palace have lost 9-0 to Burnley in the FA Cup and of course 9-0 at Liverpool in the League) - but We have also managed to win 6-0 at Everton's Goodison Park - which, I think, is the record win for a Division Two side at a First Division club!

Palace had quite a reputation as FA Cup battlers - beating Man City in the 1920/21 season (Palace's first in the Football League) and the win at Everton was the following season, 1921/22, when Palace were appearing for the first time in our history at Second Division level.

Bubbs11 either researched this meticulously for 12 years before posting or the memory ain't as quick as it used to be.

Technically, the worst are ...

Sat; 25-Mar-72; DIV1; Manchester United 4-0 Crystal Palace
Sat; 18-Dec-04; PREM; Manchester United 5-2 Crystal Palace
Sat; 19-Nov-94; PREM; Manchester United 3-0 Crystal Palace
Mon; 27-Apr-98; PREM; Manchester United 3-0 Crystal Palace

But as any fule kno we have the last laugh by beating them 5-0 in December 1972. We've also matched the 3-0 margin of victory, albeit against a significantly weakened United line-up ahead of their European Cup Winners Cup Final against Barcelona in May 1991.

Spiritually, the worst was of course at Wembley in May 1990, bedecked in that absurd kit and presumably told to not bother playing football in the most important match in our club's history. What the hell were they thinking of? (from boardroom, to management, to players)

The way we surrendered the 1995 FA Cup Semi Final leaves a bad taste too. Forfeiting the match would have been more dignified.

Cheers for the link. I know we lost but that game is one of my favourite Palace games. I was 10 at the time and we dominated the first half hour and were two up, then to get hammered until the last 15 and go 2-5 down, was made up for by the spirited and exciting last 15 where we just went at them. It was all about spirit and was one of the reasons Palace became so addictive.

The atmosphere was immense.

Same here, I was eight. I think it is the only palace defeat I can in any way stomach as I've always loved the fact that I saw Best, Law and Charlton play together "live". I seem to remember Bestie (or man u anyway) having a shedload of goals disallowed too. Is that just me or did that really happen?

Me as well - Although we lost, the match was a Classic, even more so because I'm pretty sure both teams were mid table, with the season almost over and so little to play for.
I think the disallowed goals was at SP, in the next season. Utd won 3-1 and had 3 goals chalked off, but I think that season, they were doing well and we were back to struggling, as usual.

However Kiraly saved Rooney's penalty, it was 2-2 just after half-time and I think that we were the only team in the Premiership to score 2 goals at Old Trafford that season.

I was there too, and that wasn't a bad defeat. We were the first team that season to score two goals at OT. (I think)
