I saw a particularly bad flying two footed kung foo kick that got Billy Gilbert sent off against Newcastle at St James Park in the early-mid 80's-the locals became demented after it,and had a riot (par for the course in those days).Henry Hughton has always maintained that he was "just a bit late" with the tackle that crocked Gerry Ryan, but i thought it was a dreadful challenge.

Mickey Droy decking Fashanu when he played for Millwall ... He gave it the large one, Mickey hit him and just walked it was great.
It was on my birthday we then procedded to beat the local scum 2-1 with 10 men,
and to top it off those luvly Millwall fans threw us some money to have a beer and help celebrate a wondefull victory..

Does no one else remember the life and crimes of:
Billy "kung fu"Gilbert
Roger "no teeth and Bill Shankley's son in law" Hynd
Bobby "little legs" Kellard
Bobby "blockbuster"Bell
George "ankle tap" Petchey-etc etc etc???

I play veterans football locally and last season HH was playing for one of the opposition, can't remember who they were though.

I obviously pulled out of any challenge that was less than 80/20 in my favour.

That game indirectly relegated us from the premier league. I think they scored from this free kick, and also Baros again went down in the penalty area for a soft penalty in the last minute and we lost 3-2.

Didn't Mark Dennis run half the length of the pitch to stick one on Gazza when we lost 3-2 (Martyn's debut)?

An underrated recent one, Matt Lawrence hacking down Darren Byfield after he came on as a sub for Brizzle in a non-playoff encounter. He then spent the whole second half complaining about it, making him a pointless sub.

Very under-rated player - shame we didn't give him more of a chance.

Quite correct. Whilst Kolkka pratted about, Liverpool put the ball straight down the area he should have been in and scored!

It has always puzzled me why some people thought this was funny!

Bit harsh, he's a winger, not a defender, and had a very good point, as he got booked for the challenge.

Supa Al going right through the back of Dennis Wise in the 1-0 win at Wimbledon in 1990.

Wimbledon had that 'Crazy Gang' hard man reputation but Palace kicked the living f*** out of them that night... one moment to cherish was John Fashanu getting swiftly into reverse gear while half a dozen players attempted to hold Dave Madden back from slaughtering him.

As the FA Cup Final was only days away, conventional wisdom had it that Palace would be a bit cautious about sustaining any injuries, instead what we got was supreme X-rated stuff.

good call I remember that game vividly-no one held back
surely we didnt win 10 though. I remember wise taken a corner and them scoring from it-or maybe I have got the wrong game. I definetly remember us handing out huge amounts of stick to Wisey. To his credit-he just laughed

Beat me to it!

Maybe not a foul, I hear he did 20k worth of facial improvements with that.

Possibly equal to it was Geoff's payback tackle on Andy Gray at White Heart Lane - just after he left.

Good captain was Geoff.

I can't think of one particular tackle, just maybe a couple hundred little ones.

A wonderful tradition latterly preserved by Andy Thorn. I don't know how vastly different the rules where then, but Thorn would get about 6 yellow cards a game these days. He seemed to be able to foul all game long and get away with it.

Great days.

Many older fans will remember this incident ......Palace V's Blackpool at Selhurst .evening game.

The play was stopped for another incident and the referee was checking the player etc.receiving treatment.

Gerry Queen ( Palace) must have walked about 30/40 yards up the pitch away from the incident ... went upto John Craven ( Blackpool ...later to join Crystal Palace) punched him in the face ...Craven went down ...Gerry Queen casually walked back down the pitch to where he was originally.

It seemed that ALL the crowd saw the incident EXCEPT all the officials.....
end result .... the game was restarted after Craven received attention ....NO ACTION was taken against Gerry Queen ....does anybody remember this incident ...............HAPPY DAYS !!!

I was at that game and that wins it for me as well. It was during the Keegan revival era at Newcastle and I think from memory the tackle was on King Kev himself which is why the Newcastle fans got so annoyed. As was typical of Palace's away support in those days, we had very few up there and the police decided to drive us back to the station in their cars and vans rather than risk walking us back. Newastle fans chased the police van we were in all the way from the ground to the station! Those were the days!

Henry Hughton comes a close second for the Gerry Ryan tackle.

The whole team on Bowyer at Clownton.

I do remember Bowyer kept diving on one game and getting free kicks. I thing Darren Pitcher got pissed off with him so he done one of the greatest fouls ever. It was like a kung fu kick in his chest and he went down like a sack of sh*t.

Best thing about it was he didnt even get the free kick

Wasn't that the same game when Brighty broke his arm and Eric Nixon, their goalkeeper, got sent off? If it was the same game then I was there (don't remember that exchange though) and we went on to win 3-1.

M own fave was Brighty - against Derby in the ZDS at home - Holmesdale, ball comes in from the right, little push just before the ball came over and nods it home (I think it was Mark Wright?).

Laughing as I cheered. And Brighty was always a bit tasty. I also enjoyed his one on Lee Dixon when he played for Stoke, in one of his last games. Was looking forward to seeing him when Brighty done him rocket launcher style in front of the Arthur..... Fantastic, and not what you would think when you hear him on the radio. And IIRC Brighty just upped and offed, and I think Dicko was subbed shortly after.
