Can't find another thread on this (as I can't be bothered to look).

Who is everyone playing for this season and what are the expectations?

I am once again lining up for Freelands F.C in the Bromley & Orpington District League. I hope that we can win the cup (for the bottom 3 divisions) and fancy our chances of winning the league.

No pressure then :D

We have had 2 friendlies so far drawing one 2 - 2 after throwing away a 2 goal lead ( and me missing a pen at 2 - 1 :sob: ). We then beat a team from the Sevenoaks saturday league (premier) 7 - 2. Got a friendly lined up sunday at the Natwest Ground (fitness exchange / goals) on copers cope road and hope for a convincing win.

Am still at Oxted Orient. We played our first friendly yesterday with a makeshift team, about half a dozen of our team were on holiday.

We faced a brand new team, Horley Town's Sunday mob. We took an early lead then went down 4-1 but with a late fightback, the final score was 4-3. BBSer Kirby was on the scoresheet.

Nice to remove some of the cobwebs from the summer BBQs and Euro 2008 drinkathons...

Playing for South Godstone in the redhill & District Division 4, last year we had two Sunday teams...both teams struggled for players so the decision was made to only have one team - not sure what is going to happen as some of the lads will not play Sundays as well as Saturdays
Ive decided to play both days (might regret it come Christmas time)
Been given the chance as Captain should be a laugh...Its a young squad with me being the eldest at 29...

I walked out last February after all the hard work i had put in was destroyed by other people. Culminating in the decision to go back to only 1 team this year with the people responsible for the decline of the 2 teams leaving at the end of the season.

All in all a big shame, but i hope the lads who are still there show the ability they have cos that is a very good sqaud of players.

Saturdays: Crowborough Athletic reserves. We played, and lost 2-1 to, Eastbourne Borough tonight. Their pitch was lush, best surface I've ever played on. They had seven first-teamers in their line-up, who all played at Oxford three days earlier. It was bloody tough.
Sunday: Oxted Orient, still.

Oxted Orient beat their rivals (again) Oxted and Distr*ct 4-3 yesterday. BBser Slovak Eagle scoring with his best John Oster impression.

Looks like we are playing Tomo's Caterham Pumas in our final friendly on the 7th. Judging by the fact they hammered D*strict 7-0 a couple of weeks ago, I guess we are starting as underdogs....

Dorking Badgers 3 Reigatians 2

We used 7 subs and having been 2-0 up ended up losing. Oh well, at least lots of people got a run out before the big kick off.

Dorking were pretty useful and should do well this season.

Expanded to 2 teams, they brought in a load of players from a folding team and a manager (who had never managed before) to manage the first team which all the new players went into of course regardless of ability.

We got the reserves (with quite a few 16 year olds) firing and getting better and better and then they kept taking my players without even speaking to me, usually the night before. After it happened a fe times i said i wasn't going to stand for it continuing, they did it teh night before the Orient match so i walked. Basically similar to situations with Curbs and Keegan at present ;)

They are back down to 1 team now with most of the original lads and teh youngsters. Should be a good team and i wish them a lot of success. I am moving to beds so was going to leave anyway and will coach up here when i am moved. I kinda miss early Sunday mornings now bizarrely.

Mixed bag this weekend Saturday we won 5-1 against Wallinton New Foresters(Redhill & District) div 2 -played some nice football with one of our strikers bagging 4-goals after coming on as a sub because he couldnt finf the ground.
#############################################
Sunday well that was possibly the worst start got hammered 8-1 by a new side called Surrey Colts(good passing side and should do well in league, that doesnt take it away that we was poor and the same old story with Sunday football, people not turning up or turning up still drunk from the night before...
Caterham Pumas next week (H) must do better.

Oxted Orient's first game of the season today. We faced the unknown entity of Reedham park, and came away victorious......

17 - 0

BBSers Kriby, Slovak and myself were on the score sheet. Kirby got a second half hat trick after coming on at half time. I managed a perfect hat trick, left foot, right foot and a header..... all from sweeper!

To be fair, the game wasn't really a help. They will probably fold and we will end up with the three points anyway, and a 3 - 0 win. The real test will start in two weeks when we play a better team.

Peace.

17? That is ridiculous!

We won 4-1 with the goal conceeded in the last minute which annoyed me something chronic.

First 20 minutes we took a while to get going and gel properly but everything clicked. We passed well, defended well, didn't get worried about tackles flying in (bar our centre back who likes a good run with the ball and was getting sick of being kicked everytime.). We took our goals well. Can't remember who we played but they had there moments. Passed it around nicely but allowed themselves to get wound up. We managed to ignore it most of the game until the last 2 minutes where silly tackles were flying in and they were saying things which made a couple of players lose concentration. Great start to the season so fingers crossed.

Our Ref turned up and said he was too ill to ref and went home so we had to get our keeper (who is injured at the moment) to ref the game for us

If they fold before playing 75% of games the matche will be erased.

If they play 75% then you will keep your 17-0 win and any team they have not played will get 3 points but no goals!

Pumas 6(7) - Charwood Vilage reserves 1.

We dominated from start to finish and conceeded a very sloppy goal but after that we could have won by a lot more.

I was allowed 5 minute run around outfield and had a goal disallowed for no reason. I was distraught :( chipped the keeper from ust inside the box.

3 wins in 3.

Oxted Orient 3 - 2 Nutfield Reserves

We started poorly and went one nil down. But that kicked us into gear, going 2-1 up at half time. Then 3-1, before there were given a dodgy penalty.

Comfortable win in my mind.

Maximum points so far this season.

Goodfella's today on the Purley Way.

I got home at 630 this morning and woke up feeling like death from last night, we only had 10 men and the weather was shit and they took ages to set the pitch up we didn't get going till nearly 11.

Even first half with us fighting the hill, wind and rain and keeping it at 0-0. 10 minutes into the second half we lost our centre back with an injury from a horrible clash. We battled hard having some chances only for me to have a one on one, the bloke took me on and I pushed the ball away and him to run into me to fall over and give a penalty, as well as the fact the Linesman had his offside flag up. Didn't matter anyway because I saved the penalty (2nd already this season) and we held on till the end.

dead proud of all our players today.

Oxted Orient played Reedham Park (of 17-0 fame) in the League Cup today over at the Purley Way. We won "9-0" but I'm convinced it was 10 or 11. The ref said his score card got too wet in the end and he lost count so both teams decided on 9 being fair... :o

Not much can be said really. We turned up, we won as we expected. I got drenched and didn't even have one save to make the whole game. Roll on AFC Old Bank of the Mitcham & District leagues in the Surrey Cup next week! :lux:

Slow start for South Godstone in the Redhill & District div 4
Lost our first league game to Surrey Colts 8-1 shocking start.
Next game against Tomo's Caterham Pumas good game which we lost 1-0 to be honest Caterham deserved the win for the way they defended the 2nd half and they took there chance on the 1st half and scored - I had a couple of lame attempts at goal which Tommo easily saved -
3rd game we played Woldingham Social which to be honest has always had yellows and reds in it - went 4-0 up within the 1st 20 minutes then the game got nasty 2nd half when one of there midfielders tried to chop our striker in half..and got a 2nd yellow, took our foot of the pedal and eased to a 7-2 win
Game this Sunday played Horley AFC to be honest we should not have conceded the two goals we did but played some nice attacking football and scored 6 goals to win 6-2

Next up is charlwood then Walton Wanderers who are joint top ...If we can get out the squad we have had for the last two games then we could have a good season. manager wants 4th place.. not sure of that though...

So far its looking like Walton Wanderers/ Surrey Colts/Caterham Pumas and Oxted District are the teams to beat ----possibly Lower Kingswood Reserves.

Tomo

Who are Surrey Colts? I thought we played them last year. Must have been in the cup.

We beat Oxted and District comprehensively in a pre season friendly.

I may be wrong but 3 weeks ago on a sunday I played cricket in Woldingham and there was a police car there which apparently turned up during the football after some trouble. Don't know if That is Woldingham Social...

We are playing Horley this sunday. you should get a result against Charwood. If they had some one who could score they would be ok.

Our biggest improvement this season has been our defending as demonstrated last couple of weeks. On Sunday we missed both our starting Centre backs and still kept a clean sheet.

We also have a team who just get up after being kicked in the air which means when teams our losing there rag we can go on and win games which I think you will agree is what happened for some of your players when we played you?

Surrey Colts -they are a new team according to there striker when I spoke to him - I think you may be thinking of Surrey Saints who I think are in Div 2 or 3
Surrey Colts have quite a good side but looking at recent results they do concede goals from what I remember they have two good wingers who tore our full backs to pieces -defense was full of old heads with experience, only way through was with pace or down the wings -no good in lumping it up in the air as the centre backs will win everyhing in the air..

Tomo
13-10-2008, 10:22 PM
That may well be it. Quite good.

We very rarely hoof it unless it's a clearance and needs to be done. Our defence has now realised they are good enough to pass a ball which really helps.

We've really been hit by injuries this year :(

We have lost our centre back for up to 4 months, our right back has been playing with 2 broken toes and one of our strikers has had his ankle taped up and shouldn't have played today and a couple of players limped off today :(

Unfortunately we didn't play to well today either on a heavy pitch and lost 1-0 :( I have conceeded 3 goals this season. 2 of them have been own goals from corners :(

I am playing GK for my college in Durham, I hope this counts for this thread.

Made debut for the B side on Saturday against Castle C (which is the oldest college and universally hated). We won 9-1 although the result flattered us a little. We didn't play particularly well but they were just shocking.

We also lost our best centre-back to a quad strain for a few weeks which is a blow.

South Godstone played away this week against Charlwood won 3-1 2 of our main players who get most our goals were missing so there was a re-shuffle before the match with the manager going up front.
We keep winding him up as in the 3 games he has played this season we have lost 2 league games and 1 cup match on penalties.
To Charwoods credit they attacked us from the start and got a 1-0 lead through a quick counter attack -then there was a little scuffle which I missed which resulted in there midfielder getting a straight red card for raising his hands.
2nd half we went 3 at the back and got our rewards with 3 goals.
next week we have Walton Wanderers who are joint top with 4 wins in 4 hope we have our full squad we will need it..

We played St. John's A today, who were relegated from the league above last season. We lost 3-1 to two goals from sloppy marking at set plays and an own goal.

We finally managed to play and complete a game of football at home. We beat Thomas Moore 6-2. Big challenge next week, away to one of the (other?) title chasers... Last week we tonked Reedham Park (again) 16-1.

Despite playing fewer games than most other teams in our league we are sitting in fourth due to our ridiculous goal difference!

We are on poor form. Seem to keep missing pens and handing the opposition early leads. We have a match vs. one of the bottom teams lined-up for Sunday, so hopefully we can put our poor form to rest. I think it has a lot to do with match postponements and the weather (come on, its nothing to do with our ability).

We have to play something like 18 games in 9 weeks. Not sure why Sunday's match isn't a double header. BBSer Slovak Eagle has scored for us in recent weeks.

I thought no one would ask.

Well there they are with a corner and a fella gets an unmarked header. I dive down to get behind it but some one blocks. I'm on the floor and see the ball has rebounded back to the chap who is on the six yard box. Absolutely nails a volley to the side and like a phoenix from the ashes I dive in the way and push on to the bar as he began celebrating.

another win for Pumas. Hardly deserved against a top South Godstone side who played some really nice football but despite that we had the better of the chances.
SG had a player sent off after about 25 minutes half an hour. He had been warned several times but got himself wound up about moving back 10 yards so the ref booked him and he carried on despite being warned. He then went to the ball to try and count the 10 yards and the ref had enough and sent him off. Was a shame that it had to be so silly.

They played the better football but gaps where appearing which we exposed. We had 2 cleared off the line and a couple of good saves.

A draw probably would have been a fair result.

Considering we lost I enjoyed the game - we didnt make the best of starts in terms of getting a team out & started with 10 men because our right back decided it would be a good idea to wake up late.
The sending off was deserved as our player had been warned by the ref to step back 10 yards after the 1st yellow was issued.
I think he thought he was being funny. shame as he is one of our most creative players.
I must admit I thought we had done enough to nick it 2-1 with only 5 minutes left.
We decided on going defensive which never worked & when you went down the flanks you exposed us.
Fair play we have had two good games against Pumas this year with them doing the double over us.

I thought you had as well. Your number 8 completely ran the show while he was on the pitch.

We probably deserved the win but the match became a bit silly with ten minutes to go. I don't know who the ref was in our double header against AFC Hamsey on Sunday but he was awful and seemed to know a lot of their team (he was arranged pretty last minute)... We lost the first game 4-0 fair and square to be honest but the second game we were holding them at 0-0 and lost 2-0, both of their goals given despite blatant fouls on our players leading up to both goals.

Fair to say I let the ref have a piece of my mind and would have probably been sent off if he was a proper ref. :veryangry

You should report him to the League and if he is a qualified referee, to his County FA as well. He is not a referee, he is a disgrace!

The Surrey FA do nothing about their referees. We had one referee who basically incited violence and when reported, we were told that the FA would side with the referee in the matter.

There was also a case where I was booked in a case of mistaken identity. Luckily, we thought, we had a video of the incident which showed me pulling one of our players away from the incident and having nothing to do with it.

My booking came through, we appealed it and showed them the video, only to be told that the referee said I swore at him while I was sorting the situation out (which I didn't, and you would have heard on the video) and that the booking would stand.

While I realise referee's get a lot of stick, I do find that when the situation suits them they lie about what actually happened, fully in the knowledge that the FA will support them no matter what.

Beatleboy
03-03-2009, 01:09 AM
That is worrying.

As a referee, I have attended a few FA Appeals and have had mixed experiences. Some seemed to be conducted quite proficiently - although the admin arrangements used to be shocking. For instance I turned up at one and the player said that he completely agreed with what I had written in the report!?

When asked why he had appealed then, he said, " I thought that I was just coming to pay the £10 fine" I didn't know that I was appealing!

Someone should have sorted that out before everyone's time was wasted.

The first one I ever attended, was when I was being assessed for promotion. A pretty senior ex referee was watching me and the players knew that he was an assessor. One player, who I had to caution for an offence, apparently blamed the assessor for his booking and said that he would kill him!

This was way out of earshot from me, but I had to attend the Hearing anyway.

The FA gave the player a long ban, but I was told that the assessor was so incensed that the player wasn't banned for life, that he immediately quit.

It is interesting to hear your comments about the FA's support for refs and I think that they will back referees to the hilt if they think that they are right. However, it sounds as though in your case you had some pretty powerful evidence to back up your claim and I can understand why you feel hard done by.

I do know a number of refs who feel that they don't get enough support from the FA though, so it is swings and roundabouts.

The problem is that referees are a scarce breed and a lot of people who really shouldn't be doing games (often managers of teams) are stepping in because of the shortage. Club Linesmen sometimes tell me that they are qualified referees and Know "The Rules". Just by saying that I know that they probably haven't reffed for years or haven't reffed to a reasonable standard.

Well, they have drastically reduced the scorelines they are getting hammered by. lost 5-1 and 6-0 yesterday. Or summit like that.

Surrey FA, or Redhill & Dipshit league said that the bottom division (4) is full and they had room in the top division or the third tier. So they joined our league(third, for now!). All XI (they have a squad of 12, though at the last league meeting they said they had signed seven players) are just not footballers. They have no communcation, or composure. Its strange that because they don't talk, there is no slagging off, even when their teammates make the most obvious ****-ups.

They just lack ability to be harsh, they probably completed about 2-3% of passing. We were playing 2-3-5 against them for the second half to try and get a few goals for our centre-backs. They manged to score a wonder-goal against us on the counter :clown:

Anyway, people still want to turn up and play for them and with seven new applicants they should see the season through and begin again in division 4. Good luck to them.

Oxted Orient came away with a very creditable and hard fought 2-1 win against Horley Crickets.

Game started with Oxo very much in the acendancy... 35 minutes in "Crofty" making his debut for Oxo was on the end of the Horley strikers horror tackle which resulted in a dislocated knee and a 30 minute delay during the game.

The ref (their manager) gave the striker a yellow card based on... 1. Their player said sorry and 2. Apparently Crofty told him not to send him off... WTF!!!

Even more of a kick in the bollocks was the fact Horley went 1-0 up right on half time from a corner taken by said oranged booted nonce!

In the end Oxo found a way through in the second half, player manager PB scoring witha deflected shot from 25 yards out before Gaz Pryde curled in a free kick from similar distance.

Dirty little team Horley are... Their manager/ref is a complete dick! One of their players kicked me up in the air after I'd already claimed the ball. And several fouls / foul throws in our favour were not given. A lot can be said for getting proper refs for these games sometime. The fact he didn't send their player off for his challenge set the tone for some similarly gruesome challenges throughout the game.

The other absolute classic was after the game the ref (again their manager) was walking off with our match ball which I'd bought the other week... a £16.99 Football League replica Mitre ball... I said to him "Yes please that's our match ball" at which point he turned around with... "Yeah and you'll get the ball back when I get paid my £30", I stand there looking totally bewildered... To which he responds... "You think I'm joking!!!" At which point Latvian pipes up with "Give it a rest mate, you really think we're the scummy lot here, you'll get your money"... He mumbled something like "Yeah I better do" at which point I said, "Well he can keep the ball if he wants. I seriously miss Sunday football, getting up early doors to meet your life-long pals to play against other local sides is quality! I'm just playing University football at the moment, I play for the second team where the standard is average. The first teams at University are quite good to watch, can honestly say i've played with some players who i'm suprised aren't being payed to play the game.

The second team who I have been playing for have been relegated this year after a weird season. We are good going forward but are undone by awful defending - so frustrating! I was called up to the first team in December where we played at some lovely facilities up at the University of Hertfordshire. I only played the first 20 minutes as after that time I miss-timed a tackle, gave away a penalty and fractured my shin bone (tibia). What a debut! :o Got to say that's my season over and i'm dying to play again!

Does anyone play semi-professionally on a Saturday? A couple of my good friends are trying to break into the Erith and Belvedere side by playing for the reserves - Got to say the standard seems pretty poor!

It's quite a compliment, but also a bit gutting. That was said despite my team losing 5-2 at the time.

At what standard are you playing at the moment?

Yeah it is annoying. Had I put in the application after I broke my ribs then maybe it would be back on but that and failing to give up my Palace season ticket meant it wasn't to be.

Can't remember what happened with the Charlton thing really. Played for my uncles work team in a match played at The Valley where I played a blinder against a few nifty players and after wards he told me I was good and asked to take my number. A month later I went to Kenya so never found out if he called.

This was the week after Palace got relegated at there place to.

That takes me back, I played for Wickham Wanderers way back in the early 70's, broke my ribs in the last game for them.

Just an after thought, they were called Wickham Park,is it the same club?

Is that what you told the ref as they stretchered the guy off? ;) Still photos of footy matches are great, it is why spot the ball is often so hard.

I'd love to start playing again. I played for Jeffs Chippy in the Clapham Leagues for a short while and Wandsworth Park Town up til a year back. I played the final 8 games of the season for Jeffs Chippy and we didnt concede once whilst I was on the pitch [playing right back], I then moved to Wandsworth to play on the right side of midfield and we didnt concede for another 10 games with me on the pitch. Til we lost 6-2 at Barnes.

Anyone fancy signing me up???

Pumas 2-1 Tatsfield
Tatsfield 0 - 4 Pumas

1-0 down in the first game from a penalty. Most chances came to us but could have gone either way. On of our midfield went on a run twisting n turning and shot which the keeper wasn't expecting creep in at the near post. With 5 minutes left same play had a shot from 30 odd yards that flew over the keeper.

second game Tatsfield started quickest but we scored on, had another disallowed for offside which appeared wrong but we got back on with it and went in 3-0 at half time.
5 minutes to go in the second game our right back who hasn't scored since colts picked up the ball on the back post from a corner we were defending and running the length of the pitch and slotting under the keeper.

We were deffo holding on in the first game and you had a few chances to equalise at the end of it. In the second game we stuck away our chances, which is very out of character and settled it by HT.

Tommo your boys are going strong -Could get promotion.
What happened against Flight Tavern 0-0
We have a new manager and at last we get enough players.
Had 3 or more subs in the last 4 games -considering we couldn't buy a win we have won 2 in the last 4 -
We have Walton Wanderers next week and with the change of team I am fancying our chances -could do you a favour as they have a game in hand over you -Then we have the two bottom teams.
We needed the change of manager -just wasn't working and we have under achieved this season big time.

I really don't know how we could only draw. We dominated from start to finish and played some great football but were doing it a bit to deep.

I play for Ex Blues U16's and this is my first season with them despite training with them from January of last year. We have the best players technically and play well as a team but most of our squad is either small or weak in terms of height and strength so we basically get bullied by the footballingly worse teams. We were doing very well and I was playing well for the team untill last week where I gave a penalty away with the scores at 1 1 in the 87the minuite. This loss now means promotion is basically mission impossible with two games to go ... ah well what else am I going to do on a Sunday morning.

First game of a double header won 1-0 and the second 3-0. Times today we absolutey pissed all over the opposition. They worked hard but some of the pass and movement was great. Got a bit sloppy in places but a really really good chance if finishing 2nd this season.

Interesting day in Division 3 coming up... AFC Hamsey are top with 54 points, Lower Kingswood are 2nd with 53 points, and they play each other last game of their respective seasons.

Woldingham Social are on 48 with two games to play, Horley Crickets, and Nutfield Reserves so could effectively finish on 54... And South Park are on 42 and have to play us twice, and Grange Park twice so could also finish on 54 points. AFC Hamsey have pretty much led the table all season but could finish 3rd and miss promotion altogether if they lose to LK and Woldingham win both of their games.

South Park can catch AFCH but they are about 40 goals worse off so unless they beat us and Grange Park each by a gap of +20 goals then they won't be able to jump above them.

1. AFC Hamsey - 0 (Not as good as they would seem)
2. Lower Kingswood - 0 (Didn't play against them)
3. Woldingham Social - 0 (Another team who flatter to deceive... One very good player, the others average)
4. South Park Res - Yet to play
5. Horley Crickets - 4 (Very average to say the least)
6. Grange Park - 3 (First game absolutely ripped us to pieces lucky to only lose 3-2, today didn't look up to much)
7. Hamsey Rangers - 3 (Young team, some good players, but bas attitudes all round)
8. Oxted Orient - This is us... :p
9. Nutfield Reserves - 3 (Youngish team... Beat them fairly convincingly early in season, away 3-0 defeat poss one of the worst Oxo performances ever)
10. Reigatians - 6 (Didn't play in either game)
11. Dog & Duck - 0 (I'd have banked on at least 3 if the league weren't such t**ts! Crap team, caught us on a very off day)
12. Thomas More - 6 (Very very poor... But held us til the 90th minute in away game)
13. Reedham Park - 6 (Well I can't really comment, -241 goal difference says it all really)
