Prior to tomorrow games I've thought of some of my memories of Pompey because I'm bored at work..
The thousands they brought down in mid 80s when they went for promotion (take note Brighton-far more than you). Record attendance 3 seasons on the trot over this period (again take note Brighton -some rivalry)
Penalty in FA Cup 3rd Round on route to the final.
Getting para after our victory away on route to our Championship win in 94. I'd traveled down from Oldham at 6am that morning. The day ended with my mate getting us chased around the streets of Southsea at 12am by the 657, we were singing away merrily when a group shouted who they were so my mate who was the worse for wear, gave it back to them "well we're the ******* Palace". Fortunately he lived just around the corner but they still managed to break the door off its hinges as we dived for cover!
The miserable response I got from the Isle of Wight Pompey Scummers who wouldn't let me and my girlfriend on their seacat for the January away game in 96. We had been staying in the IOW over New Year.
The abuse they gave to us last season over Venables and Fenwick. They were too thick to realise we were't too keen on them either.

Also their pubs are unhospitable, so I hope we thrash them tomorrow to ram it down their sad throats.

Didn't their fans start a riot/pitch invasion at Palace some time ago? Late 80's if my memory serves me correctly...?

If we didn't have half the squad in the treatment room...

Memories of Pompey for me down the years include the little market town Petersfield on the way there. We never used to drink in Portsmouth/Southsea because we could do without their "hospitality", but stopping at Petersfield with it's little homely pubs around the market square was always a definite before we left to get at least a point. Been there many times but I've only seen one defeat.

Can anyone explain why we are playing each other home & away within the space of a month? West Brom as well.

Bad fixture planning methinks. I bet the away game at Pompey will see at least one sending off following the home game this week.
All the pubs round Fratton are sh ite and make you feel unwelcome. Last year we got there early to get in that big time Pompey one by the away end. It is run by friendly Villa fans but frequented by pure nutty scum.

The Palace V Portsmouth game where they needed a point for promotion, thousands of the bast*rds.
If memory serves me correctly, they were in fine voice until Irvine prodded in a Palace winner in the last ten minutes. I was stood in the New Stand enclosure, when loads of them came jumping down the wall from the seats at the back. It was obvious that it was gonna kick-off...
Also, I have to mention Alan Smith's championship season. 5-1, with great goals from Southgate and Armstrong - it seems so long ago.....
