View Full Version : NBA '99/BBS Team

Back creating another custom team for my own relaxation time. Yes, I know it is an old version, but EA Sports have done well enough out of me throughout the years and I can't be bothered to upgrade.
So, a BBS team... anyone want to pick their number and position (point guard, shooting guard, small forward, big forward and "center" [American spelling]). If you can indicate your height that's useful too.
Thanks. :p
At Forward, at 6-6, from Balham and wearing #23, g23! (crowd goes mental)
I've gone for 'forward' as MJ's new position, but mostly used to play SF if you want to put me there. I'm currently weighing in at around 217, have excellent defensive skills an OK dribble (but can't go left very well) am a decent rebounder but not much good from beyond the arc. Reliable at the stripe and awkward under the boards. Can bring the ball up in transition and play point forward on occasion. In truth, I'm much more of a Scottie than a Mike, but that's not too tragic.
BTW 'big forward'? The Mailman might correct you somewhat forcefully! Think he'd prefer Power Forward!

Mental block I'm afraid.
I'll be on the look out for Malone. If he wants out of Utah that much maybe he'll head my way.

At 5-4 and 145.. you literally never see him coming.. number 77 Steve in Phoenix! Equally useless at shooting and defending.
OK OK
Im really 6-0 and 160 but I might as well be the first size when it comes to basketball..

ok ok, coming out of the depths of sussex, destined to rule the arc at a court near you, at shooting guard and wearing number 15 in honour of vince..............LL!!!!! @ "6"4 and weighing in at (erm only know in stones!!! 13stone)
LL is a rookie out of playa university where he averaged 19.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5 assists in 33 mins last year, and this highly scouted guard turned down playing alongside "air canada" once he heard of the oppurtinity to play alongside center and returning favourite Jason Mathews.
LL also brings a FG% of .818 and .715 from beyond the arc as well as a FT % of .921..........

Just double-checking the line-up, and unlike the rest of my custom teams comprised of my friends this one has a definite size advantage (with the current exception of Latvian).
I've made the current starting line up as this:
SF - g23
PF - Daddy Long (doubles as a centre when jl draws what I suspect will be inevitable foul trouble)
C - jlmatthews
SG - LLCoolSteve
PG - Steve in Phoenix
In regard to Steve in Phoenix's number there's no problems with that in Basketball, but didn't Muresan wear #77 when he was in the NBA? If I've got that wrong please correct me. However if I'm right can we get Steve to do his own version of the hilarious Snickers advert that used to show in the States? :D

I'll produce one for you the next time I play Jason. I do remember the last time I played as the BBS team you did produce a very nice left-handed dunk over the opposition's centre.
The team rebounds like no other custom team I've put together. Sweeps up just about everything on the defensive end and quite a lot on the offensive side too. The only problem is when I activate one of the guards and then press the jump key accidentally.
BTW Steve in Phoenix is deadly from 3 point land!
Once I've put together enough custom teams I'll put a league together and we'll see how the BBS team does. :)

Us #23s merely use your taunts as motivation. Remember what MJ did a couple of weeks ago immediately following his worst points-scoring performance ever? I'm not sure how these new-fangled electronic gaming devices work, but you better look out for a 50-pointer next time.
You're right about Muresan - several 7-footers have worn their height.
I'd always thought of Steve in Phoenix as a king of Steve Kerr figure - guess I was right!
Strathclyde Eagle
29-01-2002, 07:19 PM
I think I'll have to take the opportunity to have a full 48 minute game (I normally just play 3 minute quarters) and see what I can do!
BTW I'm playing on my boring old PC. Even with my relatively new graphics card it doesn't recommend showing the game with a crowd in the background. Still, it is the gameplay I'm interested in and that's superb on the whole.
The game is probably around on the cheap now if anyone is interested in getting it. I'd fully recommend it.

Steve Kerr used to be very good at taking it from outside - he was (is?) a prolific three-point shooter and won the three point contest... er (struggling with the old memory!), at least once!
Point Guard for the Bulls in the second set of three-peats - 1996 to 1998.

Almost forgot that Latvian already had the #25 jersey. Do you want 52 instead? (The only numbers taken so far are 13, 15, 22, 23, 25, 47, 77 and 99)
This Friday the Mrs is working late, so hopefully I'll have time to play a full 48-minute game. I'll try and remember to set the fatigue settings to get some substitutions going, as well as trying to get g23 his 50 point haul.
The opponents will be fellow custom team Gleberry Vineyard, a team made up of my best friend at university and some of his friends. Quite a short team, should make shooting and rebounding a bit easier. :p Like the BBS team they currently only have nine players on their roster, so the fatigue factor might be quite interesting. (I know, it's only a game!)
Incidentally there is quite a cool feature whereby some surnames get picked up by the commentators and are therefore included in the commentary. I said I won't use real names on this thread, but if you've got the same surname as an NBA player of the recent past it's likely you'll be referred to by your name, and not just your number. I know, tiny things please tiny minds... :)
What stats do people want reports of?
215a
I have the same surname as 'Sleepy-Eyed' Sam Perkins, late of Seattle.
Steve - chill! Kerr comparisons are compliments. SK kind of replaced John Paxson as one of the only people on the Bulls MJ trusted with the big shots at crucial times (kind of an anti-Kukoc). If memory serves, Kerr drained the winner that clinched the 5th championship.

BTW isn't the popular saying "There's no 'I' in team, but there is in 'equipe'."? Can't remember where I heard that now - I think it may have been in an article about the Montreal Expos.
Getting off topic here - I 'gise immensely!

In Tanganyika, the phoenix bird is a religious symbol. They believe it lays golden eggs in threes. By the way I've just looked up a box score on the ESPN website and I'll use the game stats to report the same stats they report, namely:
Name, Position, Minutes, Shots Made/Attempted, 3pt Made/Attempted, Free Throws Made/Attempted, Offensive Rebounds, Total Rebounds, Assists, Steals, Blocks, Turnovers, Personal Fouls, Total Points.
I'll see if there's some way I can put them into a table for ease of reading on the site as well.

Apologies lads, I've been spending the Mrs' backshifts of late learning a bit of php. On her nightshift last Friday I should have played NBA Live, because I was getting more than a bit fed up with:
a) Being beaten by improbable comebacks in Madden 2002, and,
b) The form of the England cricket team in New Zealand.
I also got a grand total of one hour's sleep that night. Not good.
The Mrs is predominantely early shifts for the next two weeks. However, if anyone would like to contribute any more custom rosters (e.g. Oscar winning actors) that would be very useful.
