I've had so many laughs at Palace games over the years, but two things that have REALLY cracked me up in the last few years are- when Leif Andersen somehow managed to kick the ball into his own face aginst Leeds in the cup (you really had to see it to believe it),and when the Stockport long throw "expert" took about 5 minutes wiping the ball and waving players into position, took a long run up, and then threw the ball upwards and behind him into the underside of the Arthur Wait roof-even some of his team mates were pi**ing themselves.

That boob by Kasey Keller for Palace's 4th goal at the New Den about 4 seasons ago.
Think it was a (very) weak overhead kick by Ndah that Keller somehow contrived to steer into the net.

Can't remember the exact game but Jackson rolled the ball out to Doris on the right who expertly killed the slow moving ball dead and looked up to select a target for his intended pin point accurate long range pass. He then proceeded to completely miss the stationary ball and ended up flat on his back.

Pure class, and if my memory serves me correctly he was player of the year the following season!

How about the game against Oldham where the ball boy picked the ball up whilst it was still on the pitch? About 4 years ago. I think Palace were 1 or 2 nil up at the time but Oldham were laying siege and this little boy just picked the ball up as it span away towards the touchline.

Yes, i agree, Birminghams own goal. I was up the top, just waiting for final whistle so i could leave asap, and everyone was just shouting, "GET IN" when the ball started flying over his head.

I didnt go, but saw the Ipswich own goal, that was quite funny aswell.

When we played Liverpool in the League cup Semis a few years back, my Brother and I went drinking up West for the afternoon before staggering our way to Selhurst.
Anyway during the second half yours truly needed the loo so I went bounding up the stairs and deciding not to walk down the ones at the back into the stand ... I lept off the top step and promptly knocked myself out on the concrete beam across the top of the entrance.
It wasn't funny at the time ... well for my brother and mates it was bloody hilarious.

I know this thread should be about funniest moments on the pitch, but the most I've ever laughed at Selhurst was watching this really p*ssed bloke coming back to his seat from the toilet. He was sitting near me, roaring drunk when he decided he needed a wee wee. When he came back he thought it would be best to try and walk along the old wall that's still in the middle of the Arthur Wait instead of disturbing everyone and making them get up. He wobbled & wobbled along that wall and it was so obvious what was going to happen. He picked up speed, still trying desperately to keep his balance, then flew into the first three rows of people in front of the wall, and the confused expression on his face as he just lay there on top of people was effing hilarious.

Off ther pitch, it has top be when I took my brother Russell to QPR a few years ago. He was about 13 or 14 at the time and I got him roaring drunk. On the train on the way, he was told off by a copper for punching the train roof. He had it in his head that he was being watched from then on. More beers later in the Springbok, we made our way to the match, only to have him stumble on the kerb, turn round to me and say "look after me Al, I can't even walk now!!"

Not funny to you lot but bloody hilarious to me!!!

Ipswich at home this season. Own goal being announced as the scorer by Rob Fox and Rob Shouting "Own" and the crowd shouting back "Goal".

Can't remember the team, it was in the 70's. But an away side lined up on both sides of the tunnel to sarcastically applaud the ref off (who had given every decision in favour of Palace) and the ref then booking the lot of them.

Had to be Jeff Hopkins classy strike against Millwall in 1989. From thirty odd yards, noone near him, anywhere on the pitch to aim at, yet sticks it brilliantly over Suckling's head into the net. Wasn't quite so funny at that exact moment but seemed hilarious come the end of the game and a 4-3 win.

Close second was the Blackburn play-off 2nd leg, also '89, when a weak ball towards the Blackburn goal saw not two but three defenders collide together, all three of them missing the ball. The ball carried on merrily just past the post. Class.

Gazza1 - unless this happened twice, it was as far back as 1962, in the 2nd round of the FA Cup against mighty Mansfield. We were given a dodgy penalty in the last minute to draw. It didn't help much, as the replay went 7-2 to them.

Any match including Andersen has to be in the funniest incident category. In his last match, against Leeds, he stood still while a Leeds player launched himself at the ball, but hit Andersen instead (Leif hadn't realised that football includes anything to do with a ball, so was looking the wrong way). The Leeds player went down concussed: Andersen looked as if he hadn't noticed, and probably hadn't.

Definitely the goal by Ndah against Millwall. I actually kind of missed it because I was so sure Keller was going to pick it up I had already turned to start speaking to my mate about Ndah's attempt at a bicycle-kick!

Going up in 1989 we beat Walsall, who were well on the way to relegation, 4-0 (and it should have been fourteen).

We were on the Holmesdale and right in front of us a Walsall defender was attempting to shepherd the ball out for a goal kick, not realising a team mate had touched it.

Meanwhile another Walsall player, realising it would be a corner, tried to keep it in.

The pair then stuggled manfully with each other until the ball finally crossed the line after which the first defender was made aware of his error in no uncertain terms.

On the subject of long throws I remember an FA Cup tie with York in the early 80s when one of their players attempted to power the ball in but followed through too hard. The ball banged into the pitch about two feet in front of him.

QPR losing their tempers completely in this year's visit to Selhurst was also classic stuff.

In case you missed in on the Why I'm an Eagle
thread I had posted a funniest moment;

Funny Moments - seeing all those sad train spotters avoiding all the beer
cans being thrown at them as the Palace Football Special trundles
through Crewe station.
And also after the QPR Clive Allen Cup game, with hundreds of fans rioting
(not funny), the police just wanted to get them into the tube station and
out of the area. Imagine the scene, and then there is the lone
Underground employee trying to check everyones ticket! Said employee
was then pushed into his little box and said box was then physically lifted
and moved into a corner trapping said emplyee inside! (By the way I did
have a ticket)

I cannot remember the year but it was a agme at White Hart Lane during our first spell in Division One.
Dear Mel Blyth received the ball somewhere near the half way lane, the play seemed to stutter, players believing there was an offside. Mel floated the back to John Jackson who let it over his head into the net. No whistle had been blown; goal to Tottenham .As so often with Crystal Palace you didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
We were losing anyway so I laughed.

The lamp-post climbing outside the Duke of York on the lunch time of the cup final - and the fact that a Palace scarf stayed up there for about a month afterwards!!

And in a warped kind of way ... the Miller abuse.

And in an even more warped way, watching people taking their season ticket stubs out of the plastic wallets to throw the wallets out of the top tier at Francis!!! I think we had one or maybe no games left!!

And finally, watching someone I know (the name is removed to protect the guilty), buying a pie and bovril on the un re-developed terraced away end at Oldham .. biting into the pie which was scalding hot and which stuck itself to his lip, consequently jumping back, and spilling his bovril all over his foot .. cue pie to floor action!! Not amusing ... at all ... really ..... Oh, and later on the pie hut appreared to be belching steam/smoke ... surprisingly, my recollection is we/he didn't mention it!!!

Wolves at home, midweek, must've been 8 years ago? their centre back and captain Van der Wolf had an absolute mare, gifted us so many chances, scored an own goal. The funny part was the whole ground erupting into 'ee-ooorrrre' donkey noises every time he got near the ball

Ref getting smacked in the goolies v Southampton in 197something was pretty funny.

And has been mentioned before Geoff Hopkins own goal v Millwall.
Especially as we won 4-3 in the end anyway.

Also Brian Moore on the gantry in the Arthur Wait stand late 70's.
Holmesdale starts up the song;

"Brian Brian Brian Moore, Brian Moore Brian Moore
Brian Brian Brian Moore, Brian Brian Moore"

Moore stands up, starts waving to everyone, and then the second verse begins . .

"W@nk w@nk w@nk w@ank w@nk w@nk w@nk
W@nk w@nk w@nk
W@nk w@nk w@nk
W@nk w@nk w@nk w@nk w@nk w@nk w@nk

Have to agree, that was bleedin' hilarious. As I remember it, the bloke who thought it was a goal kick actually jumped over the ball, which put off the other bloke (who was about to hoof it upfield) so much, he took a swing and missed it. It went for a corner and they almost collided with each other.

Walsall that day were the most inept team I've ever seen at Selhurst (apart from ourselves many times circa 1983 of course).

Two comments from the terraces:

1. I remember a game in the early 80s when the crowds had sunk to 5,000 and the football was dire. It immediately followed a match against Wolves (I think) when a supporter had run on to the pitch during the game to have a go at the ref.
Following the incident an incensed Ron Noades made it clear in the local press that any supporter thrown out of the ground for misconduct would be banned from Selhurst for life.
At that time, Chris Wright and Co were still verbally haranging new owner Ron Noades throughout matches from positions they had taken up near the directors box in the Old Stand. In the very next home match, Ron had obviously had enough and Chris and others were ejected and marched out in front of the Holmesdale. One wag, echoing the thoughts of so many who were bored to tears by the dire football on offer, shouted "Banned for life? You lucky b*****ds!"

2. Forward aboout 10 years to the time of the first Iraq war and a match at QPR. Many might remember Sadam's propaganda outlet Radio Baghdad which put out all sorts of ludicrous news stories. In this particular game at Loftus Road, Palace were losing quite comfortably when a Palace fan shouted out "Don't worry lads, Baghdad Radio says we're winning."

What I remember about the Walsall match that's been mentioned a few times above is that one of their fullbacks looked uncannily like Ali Osman from Eastenders and was duly ridiculed all afternoon by the AW Enclosure. It was hard to tell how much it put him off his game as Walsall were without doubt the most inept opposition ever to play us in a League match in recent living memory (perhap's Brighton's last visit runs them close)

That we only scored 4 was a disgrace; opportunities to reach double figures only come about every 50 years or so and that was undoubtedly one of them. I can recall Ali and some of his team-mates getting seriously annoyed with each other and almost coming to blows the longer the match went as their mistakes got worse and the pěss taking from the crowd intensified.

I recall at game against the "weed" back when they were somewhat decent. It was at SP and it was 0-0. I cannot remember exactly what happened, but, the ball was crossed into the Palace penalty area and John Burridge raced out to punch the ball clear, the ball hit a Palace defender a second before Burridge knocked out(or at least knocked him down) his own defender....the ball then ended up in the Palace net......only to be disallowed!

Another great laugh was at the inagural match at Oxford United's "Kassam Stadium" when they took on Palace in some sort of Charity Cup. Palace took the lead and as I remember, Oxford hardly had a shot on target until the last couple of minutes of the first half. A ball swung into the Palace box and there was the the "Flying Bear" a.k.a. Alex Kolinko who attempet to punch the ball clear, but only managed to knock out a Palace defender and an Oxford forward with one swipe.

The ball fell to an Oxford player for their only goal. Palace ended up losing on penalties! The sight of the two players laid out on the ground and Kolinko's usual bemused look will live forever!
