Pitch Invasions, who's been in one?
The first one I was in was the '89 play-off final. But honestly, I didnt really know that we had just scored! I thought we had just got promoted on goal difference! I was the first on but, only being 13 years old, 2,000 people beat me to the edge of the Holmesdale penalty box.
'The Last Stand' against Watford was pretty good for the amount of people. But the one for me was when we beat Charlton in the Play-off semi-finals where I done my 'aeroplane' impression in front of the Clowns, whilst laughing at them as they looked soooo pissed off.
There are loads more over the years which I witnessed but never took part in. Did anyone take part? Birmingham home '89, QPR away... early nineties, Spud... any away game a Portsmouth...come to think of it any away game for him.
Did you see Mark Goldberg attack Clive Allen!?!?
Its written rule that spectators mustn't enter the field of play but we all have at some point...Havn't we?

The first game of 91-92 season home to Blackburn.
There were strong rumours that Geoff Thomas was going to Ewood after the game. (TMJWAT - I think the Advertiser headline the day before was
"FOR 8000 A WEEK WOULDN'T YOU GO?"
Anyway, I had a good few beers before the game and decided it would be a good idea to run on the pitch after the game to wish Geoff all the best, and to try and get his shirt.
At the final whistle I side-stepped the stewards from where I was sitting (just behind the Palace dugout) and ran up to Geoff and shook his hand. When he refused me his shirt, I asked for his skipper's armband to which he replied (in his Manchester accent)"It's only a bit of tape mate".
Anyway, as I made my way back to my mates in the Old Stand, delighted with this bit of mangled tape, I was met by a furious Vic Warrell who told me I was banned.
The ban lasted 1 week.

A few of us managed to pile on the pitch against QPR in the 6-0 defeat at Loftus Road last season. We were in the QPR end and as we walked back to the Palace end from the pitch, a copper started getting stressed, pushing us out even though we were leaving anyway.

Eagle MArt, talking of Spud, the best one he did was at Brum City, where he ran all the way to the centre circle to welcome Dougie Freedman to the Palace and got chucked back onto the terraces. QPR last day of the season when we lost one nil was pretty scarey, I still have visions of that Police horse charging at me.

Does anyone remember Friday May 11th 1979? When we beat Burnley 2-0 to win the old division 2. It seemed like everyone of the 51,482(!) was on the pitch apart from the Brighton fans who had come hoping that we wouldn't win so they would be champions. (and look at them now)

I was on the pitch at Tomarios afore mentioned QPR defeat, my mate got nicked for punching one of the Horses, Tyson would of been proud of it.
Remember the Palace players being bought up and throwing their gear at us to calm things down?
Man City at Home was a goodun as well, when we thought we had made the play offs but the Millwall scumbags laid down and died to Blackburn.
I actually saw meself on the Big match walking along the pitch ready to run on.
Oh happy memories!

I was about 15 and in the Arfur Wait for that one and remember Wright scoring and then being chased by a load of brummies, then having some old womand push me to the front as I was youn enough to 'get stuck in' as she put it!!
I got on the pitch, and to be honest, legged it to the Sainsbury's end where I knew my old man was.
Funniest sight was a few Brummie fans being stretchered away (not really injured) after being squashed, and Palace fans runnng up to them and kicking the underneath of the stretcher!!!!

I remember hearing stories about one guy on the centre circle dressed as a clown, being slashed with a stanley knife across the forearm and his veins all hanging out.
I was told all about this from one of the original Birmingham City " Zulu warriors" , he used to be a chef in a motel I was working in , washing dishes during my A-levels. He was an absolute nutter always singing City songs and chanting " Zulu , Zulu , Zulu" ... quite scary bloke actuallyhttp://cpfc.org/ubb/clown.gif http://cpfc.org/ubb/redface.gif

I was in the Arthur Waite seats and it was one hell of an off in there.
I remember the game was featured in a series about Women in the Police.
It all started when a couple of hundred of brummies stormed the doors to get into the Arthur because the away end was sold out.
Although there was quite a ruck with them in the Wilton Arms before hand.

That Birmingham game was a big one. We had to win by 5 clear goals to snatch an automatic promotion place from Man City.Birmingham were already relegated and probably planned to cause as much havoc as possible. After our first goal the Birmingham fans spilled out over the pitch a few started running along the Arthur Waite. I do remeber a few of the Brum fans being arrested in the centre circle. I also remeber 3 enormous blokes coming over from the family stand just kicking out at these birmingham City fans.
Back to the game, I remember we were 4-0 up at half time and looked odds on for a promotion place. The players thought they were up as well and never added to the score while Birmingham pulled one back.
Still got the footage from the pitch invasion which was on the news that evening.

A few more memories from that game.
Atmosphere before the pitch invasion was pretty amiable - for Birmingham fans anyway.
One of their fans in fancy dress climbed the Homesdale floodlight and made a prat of himself mutch to everones amusement.
Police and stewards didn't know what to do when there fans started to climb over the hoardings and onto the pitch (remember this was shortly after the fences had been taken down and everyone was rightfully concerned about another Hilsborough.
The bulk of their fans who streamed onto the pitch made their way down the front of the Arthur, some ripping up the hoardings and throwing them into the crowd. For some reason http://cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gifthey got a hell of a shock just after they passed the half way line.
Minor fights broke out all over the pitch and it was hilarious seeing Robin Hood et al being carted off injured.
Calm was only restored by the mounted police who formed a line across the pitch and drove the fans back onto the terracing to resounding cheers from the rest of the ground.
As the goals poured in when the game re-started and word went round that City were a goal down the game took on a whole new dimention. Typical Palace luck though and City equalised and we let a goal in to make it all irrellivent.
Very interesting after match antics but the less said about that the better.

I remember that match, I was about 12 at the time and was in the old Family Section of the main stand.
They were relegated I think and we beat them 6-1? I remember a group of about 10 of their lot running across the pitch towards us and then legging it back as people in front of me jumped over the boardings and started giving them a beating. I'm sure i still have the Croydon Advertiser report somewhere with the news that "Palace may ban away support"

I remember the Birmingham game in 89. I travelled down with some blues fans to the match and they were out to party not cause trouble. One of them was stretchered off the pitch during the trouble.
The best pitch invasion I was part of was when I was 13, Crewe played QPR in the league cup. A mate's old man was a lineman so we had tickets and access to the dressing rooms. Crewe had lost 8-0 at Loftus Road and then beat QPR at home. The whole ground erupted as the final whistle went with a score of 3-0 to Crewe. Me and my mate ran on the pitch gobbing off at Clive Allen who promptly chased us down the tunnel. We had been taking the mickey out of him at the warm-up especially as I was wearing a Palace shirt. Magic.

After beating Charlton in the play offs i got onto the pitch and shook David Whytes hand, and wished him luck for the following season.I think he looked rather bemused.

a few memories- hope there are a lot more in the future!! Agree with all the above but will never forget beating Brighton 3-1 in 1978/79 when even the stewards were doing their best to give the seaweed grief. Whenever we played Brighton away i always felt like i was acting out something from the Battle of Hastings. As you came out the ground there was the massive hill that was far easier to defend from the top than the bottom!.
Hull away when Wright/Bright first started was diastrous- we needed to win to sneak into playoffs and somehow we lost 3-0. Most embarrassing- we beat chelsea 5-0 in a pre season and it was the first match that their away 'fans' were allowed to attend. unfortunately they marked this by running palace ragged off the pitch.

Towards the end of the 86 or 87 season, Pompey came to Selhurst needing a point to get promoted to the first division. They bought 10,000 fans up - I was on the Holmesdale and got moved into the Arthur Waite to allow them the whole end. With 3 minutes to go all their fans were celebrating their imminent promotion, when up popped Ian Wright (I think!) to slide home one of slowest and sweetest goals I have ever seen. Almost straight away after the restart Vince Hilaire tried to kick Andy Gray's head off and was sent off for his troubles (unfortunate in hindsight - but amusing at the time) and in time honoured fashion a pitch invasion marked the last home game of the season. Unfortunately Pompey were non too happy with the result and charged up from the away end. I don't know whether there were big clashes on the pitch but up 'til that point it was the best way to end both a game and a season.
Also, at Tottenham in 1992, the game where Eddie McGoldrick missed a penalty and we drew 2-2, I was sitting in the front row behind the goal. After one of McGoldrick's goals some bloke (I'd put him over 50) somehow tumbled over everyones heads and landed in a heap on the pitch in front of us, jumped up and continued celebrating only to be dragged off by the stewards. He certainly didn't appear to have got there on purpose, but as far as pointless pitch "invasions" go that has got to be in the top 10. (Along with the person during the Worthington Cup game at Torquay last season who launched himself off the top of the terrace (all six steps high)into the back of the net to celebrate Lombardo's goal and needed Steward assistance to get untangled).

My first pitch invasion was when we beat Wolves 4-1 on the last day of the 1966/67 season to hand Jimmy Hill's Coventry the 2nd Division title. I seem to recall that we invaded the pitch after the 4th goal and again at the end. You would have thought it was us that had won promotion. Coventry have been in the top division ever since. The next invasion was after beating Fulham in 1969 to gain promotion ourselves. A mere 31 years ago. Seems like yesterday. Where's my zimmer frame? After the Burnley game in 79 we couldn't be bothered to go on the pitch, preferring instead to head straight for the Fountain Head to drink a few gallons of Young's Special.

The only time I have ever been on the pitch was the play-off final against Blackburn. I vaguely recall Wright being hoisted onto someone's shoulders in the centre circle and being carried all the way to the tunnel as if he was crowd-surfing at a gig. Did this happen, my memory is a bit hazy.
The Birmingham game scared the hell out of me. I was 13 and in the Sainsbury's end and it felt weird because there seemed to be a silence across the stand as everyone was too busy watching what was going on to get too worked up about it.
