Rather disappointed having spent Tuesday afternoon browsing to see if there were any. :(

Sony have the franchise at the moment as far as I am aware.
Could change next year if my memory serves me correctly.
Codemasters have the F1 license now and are working on a title. There is a thread about this somewhere.

They are missing out big-time on capitalising on the recent high popularity.
They would have made a bomb at christmas.

No other information is out about the game yet (formats,screenshots)etc.,
but looking on the forum the conclusion is wait till E3 whats in June i think

Paul, get a clue. How easy do you think it is to make a brilliant game in nine months, from scratch? Impossible, hence the wait.

PSP version should be out by then. 360 and PS3 absolutely won't. That's first hand from the developers as of this past Tuesday. (I'm going to see two of their other games next week.)

If they choose to make it a simulator then I can't imagine it being a big seller. I guess they will have to dumb it down to please the larger market, which will be a shame imo.

Dirt and Grid have been huge for them... expect similar sorts of quality from F1. Should be incredible.

I miss not having a decent, up to date F1 game. It's wrong.
Codemasters did some brilliant, brilliant racing sims in the late 90s, the early TOCA and Colin McRae games were some of the purest driving games I've ever encountered on a console. Then they went all Hollywood and started believing their own hype. Both those series' then went shit.

I am aware of that, but I was told Dec 07 that they had the contract for the new game sewn up.
Any other Codemasters games I have had have always been a disappointment for me.
I'm not expecting much better this time.

Your Dec 07 claim is interesting, given that one of my best friends works there and I have numerous contacts within their PR team who I speak to on a weekly basis. The deal was signed shortly before it was announced last May, but the team didn't begin development until late last year - they had the release of Grid and a huge load of work on Dirt 2 to be getting on with first.

Well, I trust your opinion straight from the horses mouth rather than from the person at EA Sports I know that said they were originally going to bid for the licencing but were told something had been signed :confused:
I wouldn't want EA doing it, they focus on Fifa, Madden and Tiger and everything else falls by the wayside.
Ben, have you heard anything about a new PS3 cricket game at all?

I don't think there's ever been a great F1 game on a console. Grand Prix games on the PC were the best by a long way.

the first couple on PlayStation - F1 and F1'97, were excellent for their time. Though if I remember '97 was on the PC too.
The best effort for me was Formula One 2001 on the PS2. Really ambitious. You could tell they'd really gone to town on making it a full-blown, PC style sim for a new console and it really played very well as an F1/gaming 'purest'. Felt bigger, more complex, deeper and there was loads in there.
Was horribly buggy to the point where some buit of it just didn't work, a bit like RACE Pro, and subsequently Sony released more simple, polished watered-down versions that weren't half as appealing.

Best I've played was the ones on the N64... Not F1 Pole Position 64, but they brought out another series around 1998 - 1999 I think it was called F1 World Grand Prix and I think they made three of them. I had number 2!

But it still means nobody has made something approaching a good F1 game on a console for 8 years.

Let's hope it's better than the first one. It started well and looks nice, but got very repetitive very quickly.
Fancy tapping them on the shoulder for an XBLA/PSN version of the original (and still the best) Micro Machines?

Computer games manufacturer Codemasters has revealed details of its officially licensed multi-format Formula 1 game to AUTOSPORT.
F1 2009 will be released in the autumn for the Nintendo Wii and Sony PSP, while a higher-spec F1 2010, with HD graphics and a more sophisticated gaming mode will be launched next year for the Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and Windows.
The new game will be the first to feature world champion Lewis Hamilton, since the Briton had not reached grand prix level when F1's agreement with Sony came to an end in 2006.
F1 2009 will use all of this year's cars, teams and tracks - including the Singapore night race, the Valencia Marina Bay circuit and the new Abu Dhabi season finale. The game will also include KERS, slick tyres and the new aerodynamic regulations.
In-depth race simulators are rare on the Wii and the format does not lend itself easily to the concept, but Codemasters is convinced it can deliver promising 'new standards for immersion and authenticity' including a full season, individual arcade-style challenges and a multi-player format.
The PSP version will allow wireless multiplayer, while F1 2010 is expected to take full advantage of Xbox and PS3's thriving online gaming communities.
"Codemasters has a great heritage when it comes to racing games and their reputation is second to none," said F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. "We're working very closely together on the upcoming Formula 1 titles and are very impressed with what we have seen."
Formula 1 world championship leader Jenson Button added: "F1 computer games and circuit simulations can be invaluable for racing drivers so it's great news that our fans will also be able to experience the BGP 001 through this game."

After Madden 11 this is the next game I'm looking forward to, I'm not a big fan of F1 and haven't been for well over a decade now but always a fan of the games. It must be said that it's looking quite impressive at the moment

I have used them a few times and they are pretty good although they did screw up my Fifa 10 order and I had to wait a week to get it, it's quite rare they screw up though.

We reviewed it in the issue that's just hit the streets, gave it 9.
Needless to say once the reviewer finished with it I nabbed the code off him and it's currently sat downstairs next to my debug PS3... but I've not had chance to have a proper play of it yet as I'm balls deep in FIFA at the mo. (For review purposes.)
From the hands-on stuff I've done with it in the past it's properly great, though.
