Obv we have Beckham playing in italy/USA, and also Robbie Fowler in Oz, but who else is playing elsewhere at the moment?

Why is it that not many english, or british, play overseas? is it because the premiership is the best in the world, so they stay, or merely not good enough?

which englishman did do well when they played else where?

Funny you should mention it, just noticed Matt Derbyshire on Olympiakos' team sheet. Seems he's doing ok too, scoring 5 in 10 apps.

I often thought that the reason that England don't win tournaments is due to the fact that we are so used to the Premiership style.

We don't know what to do against slow tempo well organised sides.

I certainly think that it would help our chances if a few more were playing in Italy, Spain and Germany.

In the same way Torres has really developed playing in the Prem, it would be good if some of our players took advantage of the same opportunities..

Someone like Lampard would have done well if he had moved to Inter.

I guess it is because we are all rubbish at languages :p

Vinny Samways played for Las Palmas successfully for some years.... Laurie Cunningham was the last Real Madrid player to get a standing ovation in the Nou Camp; Lineker remains hugely popular at Barcelona and Dalian Atkinson's sexual prowess is a byword in San Sebastián.

Ade Akinbiyi has just joined Houston Dynamo. Danny Dichio is at FC Toronto, as was, and possibly still is Terry Cooke, I think. And as previously stated, Darren Huckerby is at San Jose Earthquakes.

Colin Kazim-Richards is still at Fenerbahce, though no longer English in international football terms.

I definitely think it's to the detriment of our national team play that so few of them have ever played in one of the other top european leagues - the most successful international teams tend to have their players all over the shop.

Woops, that'll teach me to just skim-read the first post.

Done well...done well...done well..hmmm...well Dichio seems to have knocked in a few at Toronto. Does that count?

Didn't Rangers have quite a few England players (Terry Butcher, Butch Wilkins, Mark Walters, Mark Hately, Chris Woods come to mind) in their team in the 80's.... not really overseas, but in a foreign country!

The real and very sad irony of it all is that Englishmen can barely get a game in the Premiership...

They loved him there as he really integrated, learnt the language etc, his injuries stopped him playing more than he did.
