Anyone who wishes to take part in the betting masters '66 must “register” (post on this thread) before the end of 18 of May..

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single game is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis.

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start on 0 points, but the winner from the first round will get an additional 10 points (1 bet) to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. (*if the number of participants get’s to 17 or more, then a 5 finalist place will be added).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the 01 of May (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on Wednesday 20/05/09. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on and out May month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the 31, May.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score on June 1.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed.

It didn't carry any of my money so i'm not talking out of my pocket but for the first 5 furlongs of the race all 3 horses were trotting and it ended up being more of a sprint than a 1m 5f contest. The fav was never going to win a mile sprint.

If you get a chance have a watch of it, it was incredibly slow, slower than I have ever seen in a race before. Like i said none of them carried my money but if they had i would have been furious.

I was going to have a bet on the race, but as soon as I saw only 3 were running avoided it. Wasn't quite the same but the race before they were going at a fairly steady pace, and only really got going with 3 furlongs to go, at which point Deadbeat had left it too late to make up the distance.

JOHNNY MURTAGH was jeered by racegoers after he finished last of three on Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire in a farcical running of the Betchronicle.com Ormonde Stakes at Chester on Friday.

Murtagh and his two rival riders, Richard Hughes on Scintillo and William Buick on Buccellati, virtually stopped to a walk on their mounts after breaking from the stalls in the 1m5½f contest, until Buick sent Buccellati to the front to set a slow pace.

The race developed into a sprint in the closing stages, with Buccellati holding off Scintillo and Frozen Fire, the 8-11 favourite, outpaced in third.

Some punters gave Murtagh an angry reception, a day after the same rider had been caught out on the fast-finishing Masterofthehorse by stablemate Golden Sword in the Chester Vase.

The three-time Derby-winning jockey defended his decision not to take up the running on Frozen Fire in a contest reduced to three runners following five withdrawals on the day of the race.

Speaking on Channel 4 Racing, he said: "He's nota horse that runs from the front. I don't think it would have suited him being in front. I did think after a furlong that I should go on, but then I said ‘no'.

"Today it didn't work. You have to make decisions.Maybe I made the wrong one day. It probably wasn't the right decision today.

"People are entitled to be upset and disappointed. I always do my best every day. I went out there with the best intentions, but things just didn't fallinto place."

Buccellati crossed the line in a time of 3min 45.91sec, a full minute outside the course record and only just over 18 seconds quicker than the time posted by Daraahem when he won Wednesday's Chester Cup over5f further.

Winning trainer Andrew Balding said: "Nobody wanted to make it and we certainly didn't, but Will had enough sense to take the bull by the horns. He likes to be held up but he had to go on.

"We fancied him whatever way it was run and he will probably go for the Coronation Cup now."

Yeah at times it can take forever..but have never bothered with spreadsheets..truthfully in the last couple of months I have spent less and less time and effort on the BM competitions. Reason for my lack of updates on in-plays and stuff..
Which leads me over to this..

After 5+ years of running the BM competitions I have decided that it is time for new people to develope it further.
I'm sure I will continue to compete most months, but because of some changes to my personal life I will be away for long periods later this year and so on.
But will try and check in from time to time..
Finbar (and others) have done a great job in the past and I'm sure others with the time and energy will develope the BM further..

I really fancy Hitchens, I think Strike the deal is the danger....

Think Hitchens will have improved from 3 to 4 yrs old and the switch of barns, Its sire Acclamation improved from 3 to 4 aswell and was a top sprinter at 4. Hitchens won v easy on comeback run.... we'll see huh
