There’s a 6-a-side tournament for over 35’s at London Arena on 26th July.

Palace aren’t in it which is a shame because here’s a list of the ex-players who will be appearing and the teams they’ll be playing for:-

Arse:- Kenny Sansom, Ian Wright

Charlatan:- Marky Bright

Chelsea:- Ray Wilkins

Spuz:- Clive Allen

All we’d need is this lot and someone like Budgie in goal and we’d p1ss it !

PS. The title of this thread roughly translates to "Come on you Palace" as those who study Lietchisms are well aware !

I was going to post about this.

It has been going on for the last few weeks on Sky. On Wednesday it was Yorkshire teams.

For Sheffield United they had Glyn Hodges (who cares?) and, much more importantly, our very own Pembo.

I was glued to the telly hoping to see the Blades progress and hoping for a glimpse of one more surging run for auld times' sake, or even Pembo kicking Chris Waddle into the stands.(As I type this, memories of Simon Garner's look of disgust towards the referee after a challenge by Pembo in the play-off 2nd leg 3/6/89. The look seemed to be saying "Can he really be allowed to challenge like that?" But, as Pam Ayres would say, I digress.

The final was between Sheff U and Sheff Wed (Leeds came bottom of the group).

It went to penalties, and the tv was only concerned with 1 penalty taker - Chris Waddle - for obvious reasons. It went to sudden death, Pembo having scored his one, and a big fuss was made when Waddle took the 10th. He scored. So it went round again, and still no-one missed, until it was Pembo's turn again. This time, he tried a deft Totti/Yorke type chip over the keeper, but it ended up more like Lineker's effort against Brazil.

Sheff Wed scored their's and the Blades were out.

Obviously, John Pemberton's penalty taking reputation didn't go to Brammal Lane with him.

I can still remember Stevie at a Lifeline meeting at Fairfield Halls, soon after the Brighton game. He was introducing all the players one-by-one onto the stage (this was the time he introduced Phil Barber as "Mr 110%").

When it came to introducing Pembo, Stevie said "I can safely say, this next man will never take a penalty again for Crystal Palace. They found the ball last week in Sydenham".

Johnny Pemberton, you are a Palace legend much much more than you'll ever know.

Amen to that Aidan, that penalty was just so typically Palace - it is one of my fondest Palace memories ... the whole ground, not just Brighton fans, collapsed into hysterics when Pembo's howitzer went zooming up the Holmesdale - you can hear this so clearly on the match video!

I was doing the PA that day and the temptation to raise the mic and say, in the style of a goalscoring annoucement,
"And Palace's fourth penalty was missed by ... Johnny Pemberton" was almost too much to bear.
